I don't normally become attached to characters in shows.. But these two make me incredibly emotional, there's something very special about their bond

Personally, I don't like Naofumi and Raphtalia as a couple. Here's why. They're not really good characters. Naofumi in the beginning was very unlikable and his reason for doing so was not very sympathetic. He may have gotten a raw deal but I can think of other anime characters who had it far worse and never forced a traumatized child to fight on their behalf (more on that later). He constantly acts as if he is the only one suffering and it gets annoying fast. Raphtalia likewise is rather flat and boring with nothing that really distinguishes her as unique. Then there's the whole slavery thing. Naofumi may have had to make grey decisions given his situation, but there were far better ways to deal with it than forcing a traumatized child through torture to be his weapon. In any other series he'd be the villain for that. In fact, in the manga and LN, the main reason he chose Raphtalia was so he could have had a surrogate to take out his anger against Myne on. If he had shown some degree of hesitance to owning a slave, recognized her as another victim of the world's cruelty, or even offered her a choice to either die in her cage or become his slave in exchange for helping her become strong enough to never be a victim again I'd be more forgiving. But slavery is still slavery even if Naofumi treats Raphtalia somewhat better than her previous owners. And that brings me to my final point. Their relationship is grossly unbalanced and reeks of dysfunction and codependency. The fact is that as his slave, Raphtalia will never be his equal in their relationship. She's actually little more than an appendage for Naofumi and has no role outside of her relationship with him. Even when she chooses to remain his slave after the duel, while the narrative intends for it to be a statement of her faith in him, it comes off more as saying that a woman cannot be trusted unless the man has some sort of hold on her to keep her under control. In short, Naofumi and Raphtalia are in my opinion the worst couple of 2019
