I'm back with another Nap Time Sewing tutorial! Today I'm taking you along while I sew up a Sew House 7 Toaster Sweater version 1.
This is such a great pattern, especially for this time of year (if you are in the N. Hemisphere that is!) - sew it up in a squishy knit fabric and feel super cosy as you wear it. It's also very easy to sew - yeay!
This time I'm also doing a little bit of alterations to the fit, so I show you how to do that as well. Please note that this is how I do it, I'm sure there are other ways, but I'm just sharing mine.
I hope you enjoy watching and hopefully you are inspired to give it a go as well. Please let me know if you do make up a sweater too, I'd love to see it!
If you enjoyed the video, please give it a 'thumbs up' and please do subscribe and hit the 'bell' for notifications on future videos.

Hooray! Another nap time sewing! And with a pattern I'm interested in making! I've got this scheduled to be watched tonight (with a nice glass of wine). Really looking forward to this...thanks for continuing to do these videos!

It turned out so pretty! I need to make one! I was happy to see how you dealt with the sleeves and altered them. Altering a pattern is something I have no experience with (and am frankly afraid to do) so it was good to see that it wasn't that difficult. Thanks again for doing these videos; being a visual learner It's very helpful.

I love your fabric. I watched your vlog because I’m in the middle of sewing this in a pink cosy colours but I’ve lengthened it as thought it might be too short. However I’m not sure it will work with the bottom band yet. The slimming of the sleeves is something I might need to do which I hadn’t thought about. Yours looks great and quite dressy which is nice as looks special with jeans. Thank you ☺️

Thanks so much for your video. It is so helpful! I've only just got a serger and have had no idea how to negotiate sleeve corners so seeing you do that was particularly helpful! You look very confident with your serger so any other videoed tips about how to wrangle a serger would be great! Really enjoy all your blogs 😊

Followed along today Suzanna! Thank you for your help and links. I bought the pattern AND the same fabric, but I thought I ought to make it out of a different fabric for you, it is here on my Instagram: instagram.com/p/BfCdJZIHwg2/?taken-by=mycardattic I hope you like it. I'm not advanced enough to make many alterations, but I did make the cuffs smaller because, I'm only 5' 1" and the long cuffs almost reached up as far as my elbow, so it looked ridiculous, so I made them shallower. Have a lovely day! xx

Your Toaster turned out lovely Suzie! Those colours suit you SO well :) Be warned! They are addictive! I wear it all the time. It's honestly too big but I don't care I still love it to bits :) Right now I'm making up the B5891 and I have to say THIS HAS BEEN A JOB. The pattern has 15 pieces - almost all it is cut out individually and so much of it has not worked I've resorted to a scary amount of "fudging and fiddling". I have no idea what this is going to be at the end of the day but oddly every time I try it on it looks great so go figure :)

I always use a tailors clapper on seams that don't want to lie flat. They are a really good tool. One I thought I'd not use much but I was wrong! Also regarding your fit....The pattern isn't really meant for very stretchy fabric like yours and it will make the fit much looser. I found this out when I made a sweatshirt then made it in a fabric with lots of stretch. I must of taken 4 inches out lol.
@Threadquarters
@Threadquarters 6 лет назад
A tailors clapper is a great idea. My fabric actually isn't very stretchy.

Thanks Maureen! It's not very stretchy and has little drape, which makes it very easy to work with. But it has enough give in it to be comfy to wear and move with your body.

I am a quilter, but I am going to try to make me a few blouses, because I do not like what I find in the stores. My question is, a pattern I am going to try is only 28” long, but I like at least 30” length. Do I add the two inches in the waist area, or at the bottom of the pattern? I am going to make one first out of just some old fabric I’ve had for a really long time, but I’d like to try to get it right the first time. Thanks for any help and I love the fabric and the make of the shirt you are wearing in this video.

A lot of patterns will have a line on then which says "lengthen or shorten here", so check for that. Otherwise, it would really depend on the shape of your blouse. If there is a waist curve I would hold the paper pattern up to yourself and check that the waist on the pattern hits your waist. If it does, then you can just lengthen at the bottom. If it is higher than your waist, you could add some length there so that you lower the waist line on your pattern so that it does hit your natural waist. I hope that helps, and good luck!
