@@coldacre I've been trying to pin this down for so long, I've seen videos of him using a JCM800 with an old DS-1 but he probably had a different set up in the studio.
@@coldacre That's awesome appreciate you sharing! looked into HH as i've never heard of them and apparently Daniel Ash of Bauhaus and a bunch of other punk guys used them, Ash said that he heard Marc Bolan of T Rex used an HH head too. Sleeper amp honestly
100%,,the true ND here,, no one ever talks bout the tone,,these guys started the chainsaw tone that swedish death followed, anyone who plays guitar would know this is classic boss ds1 distortion pedal with tone turned max,, the hm2 came out after the ds1 which is where entombed etc came about
Perhaps the sickest release ever, and I enjoy a casual listen to Dead Infection, Lymphatic Phlegm, Brutus, Enmity, Queef Eater, Dave Wang, CharmCharmChu to name a few bands.
... not to be confused with CARCARIASS 🇨🇵 from France performing Death-Metal (the name CARCARIASS 🇨🇵 comes from 'Carcharodon Carcharias', the scientific name of the 'great white shark') ... 🤘 🇨🇵
Most of ND I've listened to has Barney doing the vocals and finally found the missing link between ND and Carcass. An uncle of mine who grew up to 70's metal and 80's thrash tells me that they're the same band. Now I know when Carcass split off from ND. This EP is tight AF.
Huge fanboy .. well all of Bill Steer's work ...Carcass and this line up of Napalm Death.. this album happens to be imho...the best sounding of any heavy music period ...amazing engineering and execution....fan for life and when I get discouraged or disillusioned... This album reminds me that I'm a fucking beast .....
This EP is like a perfect transition from FETO to Harmony Corruption! Going already towards deathmetal that Harmony mastered so flawlessly but still maintaining the chaotic grindcore of FETO! Absolutely brilliant ❤️
THE END OF AN EREA OF THE OLD GRIND STYLE FOR THEM THERE ARE STILL BITS AND PIECES ON THERE NEXT ALBUM MOSTLY BECAUSE OF IN MY MIND THE BEST OLD GRIND DRUMMER THERE WAS MICK HARRIS. BUT BILL AND LEE LEFT RIGHT AFTER THIS EP. CHEERS TO THE OLD DAYS.
I totally agree mate "Scum,"From Enslavement to Obliteration" & the "Peel Sessions" with this line-up & this EP are NAPALM DEATH making the best grindcore noise ever bar fucking no-one
Easily the best N.D. release! Everything is perfect and disgusting sounding at the same time! Prime Napalm Death! Bill,Lee,Mick, and Shane at the top of their game.
Godlike grindcore death metal from the creators! I bought this when it came out and it chànged everything for me musically. Still the best N.D. imo. Lees vocals, Mick on the drums, Bill using that Symphonies guitar tone....and of corpse...Shane! And every band member went on to do amazing things in àlmost every musical genre in a way.
DAM BILLS RIFFS ON HERE ARE AMAZING. IF I WANTED TO START A GRIND BAND I WOULD HAVE HIS SOUND TRUE OLD GRIND. JUST RAW POWER AND HEAVY DOWN TONE RIFFS.
No Mental Effort is such a tough track. Peak ND. Remember reading an NME interview with them when FETO was causing a stir. The journo took the piss out of them a lot. Pretty sure that's what the lyrics are about. "So we're just in our teething stages as far as politics are concerned. That's fine coming from someone, for whom sensationalism be their only wisdom in words." Nice one Lee :)
This and utopia banished are my favs in regard to artwork. i think I like utopia a lil more because it was the first ND shirt I had. The campaign for musical destruction 1992 tour shirt. So for nostalgia reasons i like that one a little more.
This is Napam Death at their peak . The production in this is just perfect for what the band was , had " Harmony Corruption " sounded like this it would be a much better album imho ; actually the EP from that era , namely " Mass appeal madness " proves my point to a T . It absolutely obliterates " harmony Corruption " imho . PS : part kicking in at 05:47 it´s one of the most grind , DRI symbol sounding parts I can think of \m/
I feel Napalm Death got some influence of purity dilution from Defecation because of Mick, in which also played on Defecation and he and he's brother (I think it's his brother or smth) where the ones that played in purity dilution.
Unparalleled atmosphere, riffs and sound. Wish the old analog raw sound makes a come back in the near future, "hifi" wannabe productions of today with plugins and such make shitty sterile sound.
@@moshlem666 I realized many years ago that almost all pioneers came from the UK. the pioneer bands of the sixties, The Stones, then Sabbath, LedZep, etc. then punk, NWBHM, Motorhead, as well as grind bands like Napalm Death or Extreme Noise Terror. The US has Minor Threat which is one of my favourites and some of the first thrash bands like Slayer which is also one of my favourites, but that's all. My favourite death bands are also from Europe and the UK like Benediction or Bolt Thrower. Florida death is heavy as hell and all, but it's a joke actually. DnB, trip-hop and breakbeat are also originated in the UK as well as the whole rave scene ✌
This line-up of NAPALM DEATH fucking rules From Enslavement to Obliteration & Mentally Murdered & the early Peel Sessions are their best work nothing against Barney but Lee Dorrian is the best grindcore vocalist ever on these recordings
Listen to From Enslavement To Obliteration by Napalm Death, skip track 1 intro....Listen track 2 till end. Mind blowing. FETO is album right before this Ep.
says "one of the last ep's to feature Lee Dorian", pretty sure it was the last, killer like the first 2 albums, plus the peel sessions and the 3 tunes off of the North Atlantic Noise Attack release.
It's the last to feature Lee with any new material. He was out of the band just a few months after this was released. By November 89 Napalm had both Barney & Jesse now in the band. Few months later Mitch Harris was added as 2nd guitarist and they went into Morrisound Studio to record HARMONY CORRUPTION.
