I was at the piazza in May 9, 2023 and remember things were looking a bit grimy. There were a few homeless people shuffling around. A smell of urine in the air. Some dog poop on the ground and graffiti on the building itself. I got sad because it looked so grand but a bit run down. Hope the authorities spend more time taking care of thier monuments and historical buildings.

Went in Sept, could not wait to leave, the dirtiest dump I have ever been to. Why can't they pick up the garbage, the streets around the train station are the worst, not just rubbish, but poo, pee and even dead animals. No way I am going back there, much as I love Italy no thanks Napoli.

The city is in reality really not that beautiful. It looks a lot like a 3 world country in many areas of the city. The transportation system there is VERY VERY BAD, busses came only every 30/40 mins and were never on time. They shut down the subway 2 times while i was there without giving people another ride option, and taxi charged 50€ for a 10 minutes ride. The streets are filled with rubbish on the floor everywhere it's disgusting and the buildings look like slums. I really have nothing nice to say about this city. If you dream of visiting Italy go to Rome, Florence, Venice, the whole area of Tuscany, Positano, lakes Garda and Como, Milan. I've been almost all over Italy and Naples was the only place where I was left speechless by how disgusting it looked. No offense but this was my impression. Greetings from Germany. Also i love italy its my fav country in Europe but I'd skip naples
Basically you like rich cities, Naples has double the historical artefacts of Milan, if you are the classic tourist avoid Naples, if you want to see historical artefacts from ancient Greece and Rome you can't avoid this city
You just mentioned some of the most touristic spot in Italy. I feel bad for your experience. I'm not from Naples but I do love it. It's a city on its own. A mixture of many cultures, styles, may Italians don't like it, no wonder you disliked it coming from such different background. You either love it or hate it.
