Interesting to compare both French and foreign artists, it gives a broader view! Now I feel I'm ready to watch the movie tomorrow night!

Yes, and already during the Renaissance, art patrons loved to depict their victories and heroics, think about De' Medici family. And their opponents, like Siena, would paint a different point of view of the same battle.

Now I should watch the movie. My feeling is that his manipulation worked quite well, as the most famous paintings show him in a positive light.

That is right, and those works that he (or the French state) commissioned are often also very large, so they easily impress viewers who see them in person.
