I love how Uncle Rico is supposed to be there to look after the boys, and within minutes of arriving he's immediately talking about himself and recruiting Kip for his get-rich quick schemes.
I have a Filipino Uncle like this. His name is Uncle Derrick and he’s in his 50’s, his thing was dancing, if he would have just gotten found by a TV recruiter or something he would have been a star. His dancing is subpar btw and looks about as goofy as Uncle Rico’s throws. Now he makes Tik-Tok videos hoping to get famous.
0:39 .Gotts love how Kip says, "Napoleon, like anyone could even know that". So he's not denying it's ONE of the worst videos ever made, he's just arguing we can't know if it's the ABSOLUTE worst ever made!
The atmosphere created by the way to cushy couch, Rico's 1980's digital watch, just so many little touches to give it this quirky feel--just brilliant.
Indeen, the reality of it makes it painfully funny. I was there. I was a high-school nerd at this time (Isn't that right football seniors from 1991?) Don't worry about the football guys, i'm sure Uncle Rico is out there looking out for them.
@mikemurray3962 It's not Betamax. Betamax was a different tape format that was the competition to VHS. The machine in this scene is a VHS machine from RCA.
U can tell Uncle Rico was the MAN back in H.S. but something obviously went wrong with him along the way cause he's straight up Trapped in the 80s. Poor Uncle Rico coach should have put him in the game 😂
Uncle Rico as starting quarterback & Al Bundy as starting full back on the same squad, would be even more "in a single game" highschool football legendary greatness....
VHS, Landline phones, old CRT computer monitors, etc...yeah, I lived in the 3rd world pretty sure no one ever used them anymore from where I grew up in 2003 lol
"Napoleon, like anyone could even know that" pretty loaded statement. Disguised as disagreeing with Napoleon and taking the side of his friend Rico, when really he's saying "yea it's definitely a god awful video but saying it's the worst ever is impossible to know for sure". He wants to stand up for Rico, but he knows Napoleon is pretty much spot on and agrees with him. But, he doesn't like Napoleon and wants to argue technicalities to defend his friendship with Rico. lol
whenever I'm on the interwebs and a pop-up gets all up in my business, right before I ex it out I think to myself "you know what napolean, you can leave!"
The best part is the clearly terrible way he throws the balls, and yet he’s firmly convinced he could have won state, and then gone pro, combined with his refusal to move on past that moment. It’s completely pathetic, and makes him the perfect villain for a movie about nothing.
Sad there was never a part 2 but maybe it’s for the better.. The summer of 2005 I got home and watched this for the first time and man it flew over so many peoples heads..
The actor who plays uncle Rico is wearing a wig. But the question is, is that supposed to be uncle Rico’s real hair or is the character wearing a wig too?
He could've taken state in '82, let him have his glory. Even if he throws a football like a sidearmed pitcher. That coach must have had Rico in his doghouse, he obviously could've been the next Jeff George....oh wait.
