Napoleon is my ”most favorite“ historical figures. It’s just unusually entertaining to watch a random Corsican dude beat the most powerful nations of Europe multiple times. I mean think about it, his military genius and leadership of France was so incredibly efficient that the only propaganda the British had was making fun of his height

In History many times Great Leaders have come from a small country and take over a Bigger Country and then create an Empire. Gengis Khan from Mongolia conquers China then Half the World. Alexander from Macedon conquers Greece and then Persia and Eqypt and creates a massive Empire.Hitler from Austria takes over Germany and we know what happened then. And Stalin was from Georgia he wasn't Russian takes over the U.S.S.R. and makes it a Superpower. And as you say Napoleon was of Italian descent and becomes the Emperor of the French.

I remember when Daniel Radcliffe was on Inside The Actors Studio a student asked him if he would ever consider playing Napoleon. While I would’ve loved that I think Joaquin is absolutely going to kill it as Napoleon. And it looks like the film is going to show how much of a military genius he was and ho he practically changed the face of warfare. When he was at the Paris Military Academy he would study nonstop about canon ballistics. He believed that a sufficiently strong enough artillery and cavalry could easily defeat any infantry, no matter the size, and he was right.

First, it was a coalition which make him loose not just the British army. Second, given Napoleon fought and won many wars with french forces only, it gives a good perspective of the tactical difference and talent between the two parties involved…

Scott : 1) the red Necklace wore by Josephine is a referenced to the people who got beheaded (people used to wear them, during party). 2) the “Grand Armée” (French army) never shot cannonballs on the pyramid as the battle was 10 miles away from them - other site 3) R Scott wanted to film Napoleon’s coronation exactly like the famous painting from Jean Louis David (so every characters is standing where it was imagine by the painter). You should check it online ;) 4) They tried to stick a maximum to the reality ; like for instance the gallons worn on the uniform It’s gonna be great !

Napoleon was sent to Egypt in order to cut the british trade route to India. Napoleon is probably the most capable man the world has ever produced. His detractors, all former enemies, called him a tyrant, but of the 7 European coalitions launched against France, Napoleon only declared war first only once! And moreover, Russian troops were already marching towards France.....Have you ever met a tyrant who is adored by his people? This French emperor was adored by his people, which is what led to the return of the 100 days. Learning about Napoleon and France history is learning about history with a capital H!

If Ridley Scott would've made this movie 2-3 years after Gladiator, Joaquin would've been perfect for this. Napoleon is famous for being so brilliant, winning wars, overthrowing the entire new regime after the monarchy has fallen and also becoming emperor of France before turning 40. But Joaquin will crush it with his insane acting, so looking forward to it. Have you watched the Oversimplified videos about Napoleon? :D (if not, please do!)

Ofcourse this will be a blockbuster movie for the masses, probably with some heavy changes (because it's what Hollywood does) and I'm pretty sure Joaquin will do a great job as he always dose (I just hope he won't have that depressed look all the time like in the trailer). The sad thing about this generation is: people tend to think they know everything from the 08/15 movies. In fact, Waterloo was one of the less significant battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Even if the English will claim the opposite. After the campaign to Russia and the Battle of the Nations at Leipzig, not much remained of the French army. Waterloo was just the epilogue, which was completed by the Prussians and Gebhard von Blücher.

I wonder if this is like Enemy at the Gates, where they let them use their natural accents, at least for the main cast. The British actors playing French people are clearly using their natural British accents. Napoleon wasn't actually French, it was his 2nd language I think, was said to speak with a Corsican accent, but River seems to be using his normal accent as well.

You need more than cliff notes. Napoleon’s Egypt expedition lead to the discovery of the rosseta stone. The cannons he fired on to the soldiers attacking on the ice was Austerlitz but the enemy was actually retreating, a little historical license I’ll forgive. Looks great. Napoleon was an admirer of the Roman Empire.

Napoleon's archaeologists unearthed the Rosetta Stone in 1799, (in a failed expedition against the British in Egypt) was and still a critical factor in the decrepting of Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. The Battle of Austerlitz in December 1805 was probably Napoleon's finest victory against the Allies, his strategy of deception during the battle is still studied in military academics Worldwide today.

Napoleon was a legend, one of the greatest tactician, having mastery in the field of artillery, he made his name in Battle of Toulon when he was just 24; the trailer gives some glimpse on the battles which would be covered viz. Egyptian expedition ~ 1798, Battle of Austerlitz a.k.a the Battle of the Three Emperors ~ 1805, only crib would be Joaquin Phoenix though a terrific actor is too old to play the earlier days of Napoleon; just hope Ridley Scott showcases the major battles including the one - Waterloo which ultimately seals the fate of the 'Little Corporal'

Nice to see some that are still inspired enough to make these "This a movie ass fucking movie!". I just recently watched Greyhound and with how small and simple that movie was it was incredible how sucked into it I got, just a story told really well without an ounce of fat to be seen. Napoleon looks very much like the same thing. No doubt it will be as historically off the rails as Gladiator was but it don't think that ever hurt Gladiator so why would it matter this time. Almost as excited about this as I am for Dune. I would say Oppenheimer as well but Nolan, well, the memes aren't wrong.

Out of curiosity and while we're on the subject on pre-and-post revolutionary France, has anyone here seen the movie 'Chevalier' that came out a few months ago? Think they'll bring up Napoleon basically banning his music when he became emperor? Think they'll bring up Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, the first man of African descent to rise to the position of General in the French army, who served under Napoleon in Egypt? After he died Napoleon refused to pay his wife (a caucasian woman) the money generally given to widows of generals - their son was Alexandre Dumas who wrote 'The Man In The Iron Mask' and 'The Three Musketeers'.
