Hey guys, I hope you like this one! Had a lot of fun citing different games. Want to make one addendum here. I state both that Gargos was hated despite being bad and that he also got nerfed multiple times in his games' history. These are somewhat contradictory statements but I accidentally wrote myself into a corner without enough time to fix it. He was absolutely good upon his launch in Killer Instinct, magnifying the hate targeted at him. Edit, some people are asking where certain characters are summoners or not based on my criteria, so let's run through them. Captain Ginyu - All of his Ginyu force attacks do not have any autonomy or control after being summoned, so ginyu technically does not fall into the summoner or even puppeteer archetype, despite visually summoning other characters. You could consider these really elaborate looking "attacks." King Dedede From SSBB- I totally forgot that Dedede could actually summon autonomous minions in the form of both Waddle-Dees and Waddle-Doos, a mechanic that was removed from him in later iterations of Smash after Brawl in favor of just giving him a static projectile. Amingos from MVC2 - I have never played Marvel VS Capcom 2, but by quickly looking, this weird cactus man's babies do appear to fit the archetype. It looks like they run until they get into a certain proximity and then attack once and die. A bit less complex than Saibamen, but they fit the bill. C-Nero from Melty Blood - I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MELTY BLOOD, and from looking at videos I am having a hard time telling with this guy. I don't think his minions have any proximity-based attacks. They seem to attack automatically at a set distance, which I would not classify as a true summoner minion due to it not possessing any autonomy. Melty Blood players, please feel free to correct me.

This was fun to watch. One interesting case that's basically the reverse of Nappa, is a character from the platform fighter Rivals of Aether called Forsburn. He basically started as a summoner with a single smoke clone, then became a puppet character, and as of now the clone can only attack the opponent via a manual detonation by the player. Edit: ad addendum to this comment is that the clone can independently attack the opponent if Forsburn has full charges on his smoke mechanic.

Honestly I never get mad at Nappa players. The good ones usually hand my ass over and tend to really outplay me instead camping like a degenerate to get Saibamen and it’s just nice to see his lot optimized.

Gargos was destined to be good from the start since he was the essential "God" character. They gave him mechanics that mimicked Glacius and sprinkled a little "DLC" spice on top to keep things interesting. So the hate was justified from every angle 😂 Great videos as always

Those darn Saibaman scares me so much in high rank pvp. One mistake usually leads to your character getting killed and a Saibaman is one mistake you simply cant avoid once its behind you. Plus if you hit the Saibaman,it leaves you wide open. You cant hit it and you cant let it hit you. That's why being super aggressive against a good Nappa player right from the rip is a must.

Gotta love how out of all the summoners, the most well known one is the one that got popular because of the crouch

Next you're gonna discuss how Archetypes are expressed in DBFZ and how not everyone's a pure rushdown character.

God I love playing Nappa. From the saibamen, to the run, even that sweet tiddy counter. He may suck neutral game wise but he will always be one of the top dunkers in my main team of him, Cell and 16.

I don't even play DB: FZ, but this unironically makes me want to play it more than any ad ever could.

I think you'd find a lot of interest in looking into Nrvnsqr Chaos (Nero) from Melty Blood, specifically AACC as he isnt in Type Lumina. As far as I know he is the actual origination of this archetype, with his snake and deer. AACC also three variations of him, so you'd basically be looking into three versions of the same archetype with different abilities and strengths. Its also worth noting that while Melty is more niche overseas, its extremely popular and influential in Japan and over fighting games as a whole, especially DBFZ. Adult Gohan's max install ability of custom chaining is rebeating, a mechanic originating from Melty. And its more than likely where they got the idea of Android 16 being as wild as he was, as the "grapplers" in Melty are far from being traditional, the closest being Kouma Kishima.

Personally I like how Nappa is now, it’s been awhile since I’ve played (like a few months) but Nappa now plays pretty good and is probably the least trigger inducing summoning character

2:20 Gargos in the Xbox 1 K.I has Minions that act independently, the both act differently from the other and while they don't do much on their own and they die in one or two hits, but I recall the thin blue one with the trident had some monstrous knockback on it's hits and I find high level A.I Gargos tend to use that one almost like a zoning tool, the other one, I don't see much all I really know is it's a bit more aggressive. EDIT: oh you actually touch on Gargos later on, I'll be claiming that free dunce cap now.

Honestly that's why I like the fact they exist. Gargose in tournament was cool to watch. Jack-O can be hit or miss but was very interesting. You didn't even mention her Barrier that COMPLETELY ignores ALL MANNERS OF PROJECTILES. (That includes SUPERS) AND her ability to buff the minions to make them faster and more aggressive. But regardless these were a fantastic video and you covered them all super well. 💖🙏🏾

I kinda wanna see a video similar to this, with Ginyu and discussing the different types of "body snatchers" like Kirby in Smash who takes your moves or Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat who turns into a copy of you

Lord, you made me remember of a DB MUGEN that used some DB/DBZ characters that were fully based of a old DB arcade game, and one of the characters was Piccolo Daimaoh(Old Demon King Piccolo), and he was a summoner too! Fucker could spawn 3 Demon children that had their own HP bars At least his ultiamte was funny, he just calls his children and starts ganging up on you

Thanks for adding that bit at the end. I have a disabled friend who likes fighting games, but never felt very comfortable playing them until Xrd gave them Jack O', and it's really depressing to see how unwelcome they're made to feel even in casual FG chats because of summoners' rep.

Man nappa and ginyu are two of the most frightening characters in the game, in that they have such an insane Level of depht, that, if a Player was to come around who could make use of that depth fully (which at least for ginyu doesn't seem to be te case), then the fighterz community would be in trouble!
