it's almost always something stupidly simple that would entirely avoid these issues, and I think that's why this shit with people in my own life makes me so angry. because I'm literally asking for below bare minimum from some people, asking for next to nothing, and not only can they not be bothered, there is always piles of drama being caused over the simplest and dumbest things that don't even need to be an issue. I do not have the energy for interactions with other human beings anymore, it's too exhausting

i wanted 3 children, pictured it that way since I was a very young girl. wasn't sure if I would have them naturally or adopt (I'm adopted myself), and my dreams always varied on how many boys and how many girls. not that it matters, but I usually pictured 2 girls and a boy. after multiple miscarriages, i had a daughter first, then a son. once my son was a year old, he regressed, making it clear we were on our way to an autism diagnosis. at 5 he is still completely nonverbal and has been diagnosed level 3 autistic with a significant developmental delay. he's the size of a 3 year old, and is at a similar age mentally. I do not know if he will ever be capable of caring for himself without significant help. I will never have a 3rd kid, because the 2 that I have now need me to be healthy and on point physically at all times. caring for her brother is not something that should fall on my daughter, unless she chooses to do it on her own. asking a child to give up their life to care for another that is not their own kid is unacceptable, I did not want 3 kids because I expected them to raise each other, I wanted them so I could watch the miracle that is a new human being coming into the world and choosing who they're going to become. getting to be part of that is a blessing, and if I tried to have a third or adopt another kid it would absolutely take time, energy and attention away from my other kids that they need to succeed in life. so that dream of 3 kids is now 2 kids and a whole bunch of pets that we all care for together, and it's wonderful. I couldn't imagine taking my kids for granted like this family did. maybe because I lost babies at the beginning of my journey, I appreciated what I had more than they did. but these seem like awful people that had no business having that many children

$10/hr even is pretty low. Forget a professional service, the high school girls around here charge $25/hr for the scheduled time, $50/hr for any part of each hour after the agreed upon time, and they don't prorate. And that's the one child rate, each additional kid is an extra $5/hr. Little bastards make nearly as much as I do, lol. But hey, that's the market response, supply and demand. My advice to parents, make friends with other parents and alternate watching each other's kids, and don't have a whole litter of them. Keep it to like 1 or 2 kids, maximum, lol. Not counting child care, private schooling or unforeseen medical expenses, most financial planners suggest budgeting $15,000 a year for each kid, at an absolute minimum. So I get why OP's parents were stressed... 5 kids, if they were doing what they should have, that requires $75k a year, after taxes, paying the mortgage, utilities, etc. With that many kids, they'd have to be earning about $200k for a modest lifestyle. A 99¢ condom might have been the wiser financial move, lol. No wonder their house is rotting to the ground. While I don't condone anyone kicking people in the balls, in this case he might have done his father a favor, that guy can't afford another kid, ever.

@Arkryal it also says a lot when the other siblings were RELIEVED the baby had died! Parents really had no business popping out yet another baby when they are struggling so much financially. Like you basically said a box of condoms don't cost much lol. And yet will save you so much money in the future. Like putting that money towards a new porch to replace the rotting one that ultimately got an unborn baby killed! I would consider it a small mercy the baby at least won't have to deal with shitty parents, and resentful older siblings who would have to be their babysitters. The parents really are gonna wind up alone, and have no one to blame but themselves. They're definitely heading to The Nursing Home for sure 😅.

This mindset is actually very common. For a lot of controlling parents, the worst day of their life is when they come to realize that they have no power over their adult children. OP's father will not let go of the idea that he's the big man in charge.

It is genuinely aggravating. They should contact the police, CPS, and file charges the first time, every time, and go as far as the law allows to absolutely destroy them. Narcissists never respect “being the bigger person”, if anything, it is recognized as the weakness it is and incentivizes worse behavior. If you don’t purchase an urn they come in a plastic bag, zip tied and placed into a plastic box. Then the plastic box is placed in a cardboard box….Where I live anyhow.

Because it's hard to give up your relationship with your siblings. And often if you want to see your siblings during the holidays and such you have to talk to your terrible parents. The siblings are innocent and have no say in the situation. Often they are vulnerable and victimized too so it's nice to be able to check in on them.
