Wow! Simply a fascinating process to make a Chevron bead! So is this why some of mine still had a white powdery substance on them? Who knew a Lotto tumbler was used in the finishing process! And here I thought those were used in rock tumbling! Thank you so much for sharing!

Ralph and Mary perform excellent glassworking and beadmaking. I love their stuff. The video is very informative. Nevertheless, the narrator makes a few statements (all forgivable, of course, on the spur of the moment) that are not entirely accurate. For instance, "this is a bead"--when the element being made is a CANE, that will be used to make many beads. Later, "the ribs have to line-up." No, it is a choice to make the starry layers concentric. There are many canes with their starry layers shifted, providing a different look from the star-within-a-star choice. Finally, (ignoring other very minor slips), this element is not "a chevron cane." This is a STAR cane, from which chevron beads can be made. But the beadmakers can make a variety of star beads that are not chevron beads (because the ends are not abraded away by grinding--that reveals the inner layers and the chevron pattern.
