Playing out a campaign like this to "teach someone a lesson" does nothing but waste your time and energy, teaches nothing, and like this video shows, kills the campaign. You just kick the problem player from the group and move on.

I think DM knew about Wizard's...creepier aspects, and was using Asa to teach Wizard a lesson. I have to agree with others in stating, "clearly that lesson A) wasn't a good one, and B) wasn't learned, in any event." I do like the whole, "This PC was secretly evil all along" angle, though. Having a PC with goals directly opposed to the rest of the party is definitely a way to get some interesting play and counterplay going on, especially if one character is able to catch wind of that.

IMHO doesn't sound like that revenge was worth at all. Putting so much time to try "to teach him a lesson" while still feeling very uncomfortable, with the mention of age difference, and all just for a *character* to have a suicidal mood and eventually the very same giving not just the killing blow to Asa but also being extra creepy about it.

Worst part it sounds like all it did was give the creep vindication when he was scorned by the character who rejected him being evil and a good passive character being all over him. If anything I don't see how this didn't just reinforce the creep factor. The fact the messages continued and the campaign partial died due to "lack of fun" should tell you everything. This 'revenge' didn't do anything.

@kuzmavolkov
@kuzmavolkov 3 года назад
What's weird is the story claims OP is friends with the DM for a long time. So they would know how they act and what ever weird power play they like. Cause we all end up learning way to much about long term friends someway or another. So either the story is fake, exaggerated, or OP was Krayne. Cause OP being Asa makes no sense to stick with this for as long as they did, not complain to the DM why isn't anything happening to their spouse, or anything along those lines.
@Thescott16
@Thescott16 3 года назад
@@kuzmavolkov Could easily be true; OP just doesn't realize their friend has manipulative or even abusive tendencies. It's sadly very common, these days especially with people learning half their social skills from interacting through a screen. Look at the unfortunate memes around male feminists turning out to be abusers, why does it happen so often? Because that outspoken identity is the crux of their manipulation; logic dictates that they can't be abusive and also pro-women, so their partners often dismiss their (usually sporadic) abusive behavior. The point of manipulation is to trick the target into thinking that the lie you're telling them can't possibly be a lie and so they dismiss the truth as being impossible. So it is absolutely possible for OP to think that they're friends with the DM while being emotionally manipulated and used, and the DM may or may not even realize their own abusive habits (most abusers don't think they're abusers).

@@nutterbutter9069 having group support is very important for people who are being targeted by creeps. The group is either with the creep or with the victim and all parties need to know where everyone stands on the matter. Well, it was the creepy player that summoned the drama so I am totally on OP's & DM's side. And, all players being pawns of gods in their personal spats, is a total fantasy setting method of operation... so very fair game in AD&D. If the role-playing gain was a genre that involved a universe with no gods of any kind (that includes all greater powers), I'd be more prone to agree.

Glad it worked for them. Was not revenge in any real way to me. The guy that wanted to sleep with the elf girl was rejected and then he got to kill her and carry her head around as punishment? Sounds like the girl was punished - made a BBEG and then beheaded! And the part where he started dumping on himself was classic abuser behavior. “I did so wrong” speech and expected the women he tried to sleep with to make it better?! I personally don’t know I would have stayed at the table. Sounds like the entire thing was messed up.

So OP refers to the characters by name, but the players by class, but not the class they're playing, instead calling them the class they like playing... Then says Cleric is playing a cleric like that should be obvious, when in the next breath introduces Wizard, who is playing a bard. But wait! Wizard doesn't want to play a bard, so he changes... to a sorcerer. Wt-actual-f OP? And all that is not even mentioning the fact that there was no plotting in the story, no revenge, no lesson, and the Creep (which would have been a much better identifier than Wizard) even gets to justifiably kill the object of his frustration. This was just a D&D story about an interesting campaign and roleplaying. The fact that there was a creepy player that actually got a payoff to their RP in the worst way is a side story to the campaign itself.

"Perfect Revenge" was absolute bullshit, there was no revenge, it was the almost but still perfect revenge for Crane. He got rejected countlessly, he was shamed rightfully so, tricked, and then got to behead the character Asa and gallivant it around like a trophy while also taking on the lead until the very end of the campaign. 1. To you GM's out there... Keep your "Couples' Issues" OUT of the damn Game! Don't use Game scenario or mechanics to punish or teach your S.O. a lesson. Don't employ, or harass other Players into plotting with you on your S.O... Don't get pissed off about In-Game flirting and take it out on the other Players OR your S.O... Don't let your senses of Reality vs. Fantasy get so blurred you can't tell which is real!!! If you have issue with your S.O.'s flirtatious nature In-Game, then take it up in conversation (personal AND PRIVATE) with your S.O. Get your OWN sh*t together so you can functionally run the Game. ASK about the flirtations between Characters if you need, and worry about the foundations of your relationship at THAT level, not plastering the sh*t all over the rest of us. Most of the time, we (Other Players) are just having fun In-Game and In-Character through the R.P. We do NOT give a damn what the hell ever your petty and personal issues are. 2. For you Players out there... Pay attention to when "plotting" with or around the GM might have anything to do with a "Lovers' Tiff"... AND AVOID the "Couples' Issues" with In-Game antics at ANY AND EVERY cost!!! This ALSO includes NOT using In-Game scenario or mechanics to HELP teach anyone's S.O. a thing or three!!! Don't take the sh*t of harassment, employment, or berating and shaming (etc...etc...ETC) to get involved with a GM who seeks to punish others with the Game. Try not to piss off anyone else around the Table with In-Game antics in general, but ESPECIALLY be careful about shared flirtations with other's S.O.'s in general... That includes occasional side-convo's with someone who might take it as a sleight to re-assure them it's JUST the In-Game RP between CHARACTERS... It's a Game, and thereby should be FUN!!! Yes, we pick on each other and give each other grief from time to time, from long-standing private jokes about the record-holding series of fumbles to suspiciously overt romances springing up between certain Players and Characters at the Table... It CAN be funny, particularly when a couple Players are well seasoned for that kind of banter, and consistently get kindled into relationships because the rest of the Table is too entertained with it... Okay... fine enough... AND then we laugh it off and get BACK TO REALITY. All you're ever going to do with this kind of antics is collapse the dynamics between Players and GM, and bring down Campaigns prematurely... You'll eventually do enough damage that relationships suffer or come apart altogether. and you'll eventually hate yourself for participating in something so destructive, even self-destructive. IF you find yourself inescapably dragged into petty relationship BULLSHIT, quit the game. It's just not worth it... I'd rather sit alone and become a bad novelist than play in a Game where I'm constantly too on guard to have any fun, or afraid I'm setting fire to someone else's relationship. I'd rather just bitch mindlessly in online forums about the horrible people around me and NEVER play again, than stoop to this kind of crap... AND make no mistake, this was (in fact) crap. As much as I love D&D, and I regard it as THE greatest hobby in the world, I still value my friends more. I can only hope others share my sentiments on both portions of that. ;o)

So where was the revenge in this story?? Did I miss something? The creep never had to pay for any of his player's crimes (only just a 'woe is me' moment), let alone *actually learn anything* as teh player. That was so lame. Crane wrecked the game's fun for everyone else, and practically 'won' the game he was playing. If this was revenge, it FAILED. I subscribed when I saw the Astoshan story, which was amazing, as well as a lot of the other stories around that time (The ogre crafty smith story, Selena the superficial, the friendly black dragon one), but recently too many failed stories like this make me question staying.

ah, you see this story is mis-leading. It truly is a bully story of what happens to players caught in the middle of two S.O. players and thier manipulative and abusive actions. the TLDR here is if you don't have a session 0 and you don't bring up issues after session with everyone at the table, then this is the inevitable outcome. So before that last part happens leave the group if the creep wont.

A line that wasn't in this story but could've really taught that lesson: Asa - "You'd have to rape me to have me, Krayne. That is how much I despise you." Or just have her call him a rapist at some point to some capacity; such as comparing Krayne to a rapist. Most creeps will back off if they're called out like that & take a moment to reflect. They either stop being a creep or don't learn the lesson.

I feel bad for OP, they were relentlessly targeted by a perverted creep, then manipulated by an irrationally jealous and enabling DM. The DM should have nipped that mess in the bud the moment it started, instead they punished OP by making them completely change their character, taking ownership of said character, then allowed Wizard's character to become the hero while desecrating OP's character in the most evil and obsessive way possible. The DM's entire plan to "teach wizard a lesson" was really just an elaborate way to victim shame OP.

I think there was waaaaay too much roleplaying for this to be a revenge story against the player. Revenge against the character would have been "You wake up this morning only to find that your dick has been stolen by a fae and your libido has gone with it, you no longer feel attraction to asha...or any woman for that matter." Revenge against the player would have been a swift ban.

Imo this doesn't sound like the perfect revenge, and I really don't think the DM made the right calls here. It involved the narrator investing hours and hours into making their character something they hadn't wanted to, while continuing to be made uncomfortable by Wizard. There's also no lesson in having Krayne be the one who (brutally) kills Asa for rejecting him (being the BBEG was pretty clearly secondary to that), and letting him beat her up prior to that. There was no sense of revenge in either of those things, just more of the narrator's PC suffering because of Krayne to varying degrees. If anything, this is the perfect example of how NOT to plan a revenge, or handle a creep. In contrast to this, I remember the time when I came to one of my DMs about another player saying something wildly inappropriate about my PC and she immediately talked to the other player (under no uncertain terms), and the problem was handled right there with no further drama or discomfort. For revenge, this channel has posted so many legitimately satisfying PvP revenge stories, and imo, I really feel like that's how this should have gone if the narrator and the DM wanted to work the revenge angle. Like, the right angle is not to change Asa into a horrible baddy, it's to recognize Krayne for the baddy he already is, and treat him as such in the narrative (and no, it doesn't matter if the problem player is your partner).

Or the DM could have, you know kicked him out, I'm not even half way through and this story already A. Doesn't make any sense as to how this is a punishment in any way shape or form B. The OP even says they basically alienated the cleric during all this and they felt bad about it..so remind me how the DM is any better then the problem player? Also suspicious when they were basically told when they joined the campaign to play a female character...red flags...red flags everywhere

This story feels like clickbait. You promise one thing with the title & and then it turns that is not what this story is about. How is this a "perfect revenge"? There is no actual pay off. Both the player and the character 'Krayne' got away with their BS, without being really confronted with any consequences. The character got to actually kill 'Asa' and the player and DM are somehow still together.

That entire campaign seemed to be engineered to create drama and angst, definitely not my cup of tea. Character interactions should be strictly disassociated from real life. If a player, begins to suffer due to consequences affecting their character, I recommend a heart to heart conversation with a rational adult. Being able to separate your own real life personal feelings from whatever your character might be going through in a make believe roleplaying game, should be a mandatory skill required by all players and D.M.s. Failure to exhibit this skill, should perhaps sound a warning bell, that perhaps this sort of activity is not mentally or emotionally safe for that player. Let’s face it some people just cannot handle it.
@timtauber5557
@timtauber5557 3 года назад
Creepy behavior by players attempting to fulfill lurid sexual fantasies with an unwilling participant, should not be tolerated by a D.M. Or the rest of the party. It must be nipped in the bud and forbidden to persist. Kicking out the offensive player after 1 warning should alleviate that problem.

Yeeah as everyone else said, no lesson was learned and it got REALLY petty. Interesting story though. But dumb move on the player's part staying, shame on the DM not putting their foot down (also don't see how making elven hitler would fix the creep problem at all), and shame on the creep for what he did. The fact the DM is still together with problem player creep is a red flag the player clearly hasn't heeded, not sure if DM is naive but that relationship sounds like a ticking time bomb of red flags.

I would not have continued to play with the party if it made me uncomfortable every time. Also the others players should have voiced this as well. Honestly the lack of any one else caring is a huge problem, and the idea to change your character from what is was (IMO pretty disgusting). I would never change my character because of how another player is acting, that is disrespectful to my characters. All of which I lovingly make, the solution to a shitty player is never to ignore him and try to change your fun and playstyle to try to make them go away. Instead the party should have had a chat with the player after session about his actions. Also again as I always state, in session 0 one of the things dm's and players need to talk about is what is okay and not okay. Since there are players issues about characters dating each other when the players themselves have someone they are dating (playing in the same campaign). There should never be a thing involving the character x character stuff. Also there should be some kind of punishment if the players break the session 0 rules. If there was then that player may not have made that campaign miserable for you.

I do not agree with how the DM handled it. It does not sound as a "lesson", considering how in the end the person that was the "victim" of the creepy behavior, ended up losing more than the creep. Geez this was real freaking uncomfortable to listen to, like holding onto a sneeze that's punching you in the face. No fault of your own, it was narrated well as usual, but this felt like an absolute win for the creepy player. He got cool roleplay interactions out of it, he murdered the character who rejected him, and the player had to sit through an uncomfortable experience being strung along by the DM. Not sure what the takeaway is. I do hope OP has gotten a better grasp of her boundaries and won't put up with this in future games, and I'm at least glad she got some cool fulfilling bits out of it. I'm always skeptical of any DM that tries to solve problems between players using the actual game itself instead of just straight up talking to or even kicking players if they're making the others uncomfortable....

Experienced DM here.. It bothers me that the female character was a requirement. You don't do that unless you have motivation to act on something related to that. Which never happens here. I am seriously wondering if the DM and that player were working together. Also 3 people is plenty for a party. You DO NOT use a DMPC ever. Especially 2 or 3 where it makes up half the party, that is just toxic by itself. If you ever find out there is a DMPC (especially multiple) RUN. IDK if they are IRL friends....just...go P.S. I will never purposefully kill a PC under normal circumstances....but if I was the DM here and this stuff got creepy and didn't stop after warnings....I would have plotted with Asta to eventually have her kill that PC....or at least have her leave him to die in a trap or something. Then if that continued with next PC they would have been out of the game. Even if they were my partner. Although I don't know who would ever want a partner like that....

In my opinion an outgame problem with a player ist not to be dealt with ingame, expecially when the "lesson leads to the victorious outcome of the problems players character -serious?! If i have a problem with the fact that my partner is overflirtatious with another player and the proposed solution is to go allong with it for some time with a lot of discomfort for the victim is seriously messed up. I recomment for everybody in the OP´s shoes to draw a line quickly or run the risk to encourage the toxic players behaviour even more. I´m at a table to have fun - as a GM as well as a player. If anybody would have pulled this at my table, i would have kicked him out. A gametable is no place for some sick mindgames of couples trying to deal with relation issues.

So whenever she saw Krane she could monologue then halfway through monologue point at Krane and he just pops. Like a video game gore explosion. Complete with extra organs and blood. In fact that is revealed as Asas' preferred way of death. Death by extra organs and blood other than skin. Then make re roll a current level character. That guy needs to be humbled.

Acting that way only makes it seem as if you actually support said behaviors. 8:25- Lord I hope you weren't comfortable, anyone who would be is a total monster. 12:35- Krayne was the asshole here, what grounds did he have? 14:00- The truth hurts doesn't it Krayne. 21:10- That should have bugged you, once again the true evil (Krayne) was allowed to go about his way undaunted and victorious.... again. More than anything, it feels like the DM just tried to make sure their Wizard BF would get to keep interacting with OP's character, but set up a new dynamic. I don't see anything here in where Wizard learned anything from this... and if the DM is still dating him... that's just another level of yikes from me. I definitely would have preferred to see the Wizard taken down by OP's character, not the other way around.

I didn't like this one at all. I get that most role play characters' attributes are somewhat randomized but I just don't understand how the Dragonborn Wizard carrying a sword was simultaneously a murder hobo, a creep, and a badass while the elven investigator was just smart and weak. Also I don't understand the relationship between the players and the DM, because it sounded like cleric's player, the person that took the role of DM and the person playing Asa were good friends and wizard's player was new and behaved like a dick. But on the other hand cleric appeared to be completely spineless taking absolutely no part in the conflict despite (probably) having an alignment or you know: a brain. What I don't get either is how Asa's player remained formal towards the player being described as "creepy", when for example, asking if it was ok to give a dark comment, so apparently the relationship between wizard's player and Asa's player was normal and still it was not possible for them to simply tell the wizard-guy to stop playing a murder hobo and adopt some positive character traits or do what would be reasonable for any murder hobo in a non-murder hobo party: leave the party because you don't fit in? And then the resolution that the DM proposed, to change your entire character background, alignment and overall spirit and of course the wizard can change his race to adapt to the xenophobe and then Asa leaves the party and Asa's player uses their new character for the sole purpose of sticking it to the wizard which is a huge mistake on I guess the DM's part for allowing player-conflict to be reflected in character-conflict. Finally with the main story being completely derailed it comes to Asa returning under DM's control in a boss-fight and the lesson that wizard's player takes away from this is: "If I want to be a murder hobo, a creep, a dick and make my fellow players feel uncomfortable then I CAN because apparently I can come out victorious". Great way to resolve things, DM, good job.
