Hope you all enjoyed the video! This is technically Episode 4 of a bigger series I'm working on, please check out the others! ru-vid.com/group/PLiycajElJ3oZtIjnoecBWLSM-b3nD5fB0
All Siege quest suck. Every single one. But Zorah was by leaps and bounds the best one the series has ever done. So no, it is not at all surprising. Narwa and Ubushi just suck that much. Music and design? Cool. Actually fighting them? No thank you. They are the definition of an annoying fight and that is much worse than just being boring after the first time like Zorah or other Siege like Elder Dagons.
The popularity vote definitely had some weird shit going on, not just the Storm Serpents but stuff like Yian Kut Ku beating Bloodbath Diablos and Abyssal Lagiacrus in the top 20 despite only being in 1 game
Fun fact In the Allmother fight, when you see Narwa before she transforms into allmother, her colors are all more muted than the coral palace fight. That is a thing that also happen irl with many tropical fish, that turn pale when stressed. It's a little touch of narrative I love it a lot.
Hate when people say it’s natural that she becomes allmother it’s not Ibushi sacrificed his life to narwa for their young to survive and narwa being completely stressed out when she sees her king struggling makes it even sadder love the details that the devs put in
As someone whose favorite weapon in the series is Rise/Sunbreak Insect Glaive, Ibushi and Narwa are among my favorite monsters mechanically. It’s just so fun being able to really push the aerial mobility of the weapon to let you be hyper aggressive. That said, I would agree that Amatsu probably did overshadow them, as Amatsu eventually took their place as my preferred monster to engage in aerial dogfights. As far as their music themes go, I was pretty disappointed that none of them made it into the top 10 of the music poll, as it was very cool being able to catch the parallels with the twins’ voice actresses on my first run of each hunt. I assume part of the issues is a large percentage of people are not familiar with the twins’ Japanese voices. Watching all the context laid out definitely makes me remember why I liked fighting them so much, so I really appreciate the work you’ve put in to highlight them!
a cool thing about allmother's theme is that it not only contains both sisters singing Ibushi's theme but also it combines Ibushi's and Narwa's themes Almost like their themes were designed to fit together like puzzle pieces
Love the video. ❤ I love the storm serpents, and I’m glad you delved deeper into their lore and even explained their resonance with the twins. Even with Amatsu in the same game, I find Ibushi and Narwa to be completely distinct and fascinating.
The bit towards the end elaborating on their placement in the Hunter's Choice Poll really illustrates to me that it wasn't a good system. If they were just going to have people choose favorites, then I think they should've given multiple votes with different weights (one vote worth 3 points for a favorite, two worth one for liked monsters perhaps). Frankly I don't like the approach because it isn't very thorough. This is why I'm interested to see the results of CR-Volcanic's community poll, as it uses a 5 star system for every single monster, so people can be more specific as to how much they like multiple monsters, and not just which one is their favorite. I imagine such a poll will be a lot harder to sort the results of than the official poll, but I think that a company as large as Capcom could've put in the effort for the anniversary of what is currently their biggest franchise. Also interesting to hear about other examples in the "resonance" in the franchise. As nice as it is to know it's not just something they pulled out of their ass, I still don't think it's handled well. The fact it's comparable to World's plot isn't great as that game's plot isn't good either (bioenergy am I right). This could be something future games use well though, as the idea that the strongest elder dragons, which are already quite fantastical, have such mystical powers as telepathy is not bad on its own. Playing it up in a similar way to the rampage could be good; that these monster's otherworldly powers drive the life around them mad, to the point that some affected monsters become harbingers of the chaos. Overall I hard agree that Ibushi's rampage quest is great. I also value a fight having the right vibes, and the notion that a storm god has parted the waves of crazed monsters to directly attack Kamura is really threatening. Ibushi also has really nice music and a fantastic design, and while the fight isn't my favorite it is appropriately difficult for the point it's at in the story. I wish I could say I feel as strongly about Narwa, but her themes don't work for me and her fight is just fine. Crazy that Zorah isn't less popular than these two, because wow its quests are terrible.
Honestly,i think this might be my favorite video that you made yet, everything i want in a video really, showing the fight,armor/weapons,concept art and such Hope we get more videos like this 🙏
Although a minor mention, they do also have a unique ramp-up skill/rampage decoration, where using the armour set of the opposite serpent buffs the weapon , a really fun idea if not actually very strong in game
I agree it’s sad seeing them so low they are good fights idk why most of the rise monsters were ranked so low some of the fight were very good like gods harag for example
just rematched them last night with my friend who finally got to the allmother, absolute blast of a fight and it’s such a shame when there’s genuinely snore feats like zorah magdaros
@HeavyWings yeah it's a shame that they are the least favorite. But I'll be honest I like how wind serpent ibushi created the apex monsters but I don't like how the apex monsters in rise are deviant ripoff, but I did like apex rathalos and apex rathian
Great video! I really enjoyed the story analysis, going in detail on the monsters intelligence and resonance was weirdly fascinating. Also I love the serpents, getting some appreciation for them is awesome.
The serpents hold a special place in my heart, due to them being my first true boss elder dragons, I fought em a lot and had a lot of fun. Heck not too long ago I was fighting em in a second playthrough of rise with a friend….and I think I fought em too much in HR due to the fact I never died while fighting them, including all momma lol. Still way better than borah magdoras
While I wouldn't put them among my favourite monsters I really love the storm serpents, mostly because they were my first true MH final bosses (never got to finish Iceborne, and Xeno'jiva really doesn't have much hype leading to it IMO) and I enjoyed the fights a lot, it took me a while to master Allmother but the way they incorporate all gameplay mechanics is just perfect for the endgame fight. They also incarnate my ideal view of Elders pretty well, key element being "different" from regular monsters, not just by beign op but overall ingame presence. Honestly extremely surprised they ranked even below stuff like Yama Tsukami or Dire Miralis which had limited presence in very old games (not saying they're bad, but given the strong New Games bias in the poll I was not expecting it).
I think some of this comes more from how scuffed the voting was. It was more a tally of how many people had the monster as their number 1 vs how popular a monster is in general. If the goal was to test general monster popularity we should have gotten more-unlimited votes so we’d have a better idea of what monsters people liked. (Yes I’m still slightly mad so many good and amazing monsters thrown into the bottom because of the going process)
Narwa and Ibushi are my favorite elder dragons (only like Velkhana and Nergi and Dalamadur really come close). They easily have the best designs, music, and fights out of the entire series.
they are a siege fight in my opinion, that doesn't really force you to partake in the siege mechanics. other than maybe Rampage. using the savage axe CB with air hopper wirebug skill is alot of fun. also bonking them with meteor impact.
I honeslty dont get it. I love the serpants. Allmother is my second favorite final boss. The fights are fun and take the most advantage of the wirebugs as a mechanics. Allmother is challenging. The themes are some of the best in the franchise. And the story and implications around them present them as real threats.
Zorah not being the least popular is pure World favoritism, and the position of these two showcases the Rise hatred. They are too good for not being in the top 100.
I think that Ibushi has an Event Quest that you can fight and defeat it. In Master Rank is officially still fight it without doing the exclusive event quest.
Ibushi is my fav monster in the series I just wish they gave him a variant like the allfather like imagine an Ibushi wielding huge amounts of dragon lightening and a more jagged crown like horn or a risen form he has so much potential for a varient hope one day we see him get one like in GU type celebration game
I hate when people complain about a monster being too hard to dodge or an attack being too strong Like yea bro, that’s the final boss of course it has to be strong
The floating platforms are what really took me out of the fight, tbh. Ibushi's wind vortexes at the very least seem like they're unintended aftershocks for his attacks, but the conveniently placed platforms for him and the Narwa fights are kind of silly. Like as they fall to the ground, they just happen to summon these convenient ramps that lead right up to their weakpoint? Or how when they're at the Coral Palace, they tend to raise up these platforms with siege weapons on them, allowing you to dodge their most devastating attacks while also dealing more damage to them? It's very immersion breaking, especially since they've already established that these serpents are meant to be intelligent.
Rise was my first MonHun I actually played through and while I liked and was awed by Ibushi, I can't say the same for Narwa. I actually kinda felt underwhelmed by her and I was not that big of a fan of her fight tbh
I cannot dislike Zorah Magdaros knowing how much effort the devs put into this, they had a vision and they went for it, the first time you do it its a spectacle, but after that never again. Ibushi and Narwa on the other hand, I first disliked a lot, because I hated the fight. But especially Ibushi grew a lot on me. The music is fantastic and the moveset actually cool, the first impression was just... strange. Still dont like Narwa very much though but I cant explain why, especially Allmother. Cool music still
In regards to resonance I actually thought it was cool, it let us see things from the monsters perspective and show a side of them we haven’t see before or since. I don’t mind the more mystical elements of it either since i actually like it when monster hunter dose stuff like that albeit in small doses
At first, I despised Ibushi when I got to the rampage fight, but as farmed him for some weapons (I love all of their weapons), I came to really enjoy the Ibushi Fight. Narwa, and by extension, Narwa the All-AOES, I do believe to pretty poorly made fights as I find myself constantly having to sheath my weapon to wirebug onto rocks, and it gets very tedious. Then Allmother spits out just constant AOEs while always seeming to move away. I wouldn’t either Narwa fight is worse then Zorah, but I’d still say Narwa is bottom barrel for elder fights.
you can say whatever you want bout these alien kaiju floating amatsu rip offs serpents but I swear they have the one of the best Ost i’ve ever heard, expecially Wind Serpent Ibushi. (I personally adore them in almost every aspect, fun fight, absurd design and cool ecology, ibushi sacrific, except the twin mind connection garbage)
I actually really hate the Hunter's Choice poll, you had to pick 3 monsters iirc but even then, there are more than a hundred monsters, how did Capcom rank those that got no votes? How did they determine ties? I think the first 3 places are the only accurate picks in the Hunter's Choice poll. Start going down the list and the voting system starts to fail hard.
In base rise, their presentation is not very good. Ibushi is only a Rampage hunt and Narwa only have the "Thunder Serpent" version. But Sunbreak's Master Rank, they're absolutelly peak. Ibushi is very fun to fight on his own despite his lack of speed and The Allmother is one of the most fantastic monsters they've ever cooked. The only stuff I didn't like that much is the bullet-hell feeling of some of their moves and the resonance stuff is a but weird, but them being ED, I can forgive more "paranormal" sh*t like that
I dislike gimmick fights in general, hence i never liked the wind serpent fights. Their designs and lore are fantastic though. Now, Amatsu, on the other hand, is just a superior version of them when it comes to the fight, a much more mechanical fight rather than a gimmicky one, and that fight utilizes Rise's unique mobility options to their fullest. Still better than gaismagorm anyway.
Both of them (especialy Allmother) have insanely good battle theme, i'm gotta say it is one of best theme in Rise: Sunbreak so far But the designs, with me, gross. But don't get me wrong, i pretty like Narwa
I can definitely see why these two aren't liked, even if I enjoyed their fights. They're tied to Rise's story - an absolutely terrible story with silly stuff like Wyverian telepathy, the Rampage, Rise's Apexes... All of which were very poorly executed. On top of that, they're the _third_ "storm god" final boss this series has had - after Kushala and then Amatsu. And even then, Amatsu does everything these two try to do but better.
I like there designs but there fights aren't particularly interesting, with them repeatedly summoning guns for you to shoot them which seems really dumb as well as Allmothers main attack being incredibly uncreative by MH standards with it literally just copying and pasting Ahtal-Ka's and Safi's Nova together. Honestly before the TU for you to actually finish the game came out, I figured they were going to do something very interesting. I figured they were going to force you to fight them both at the exact same time, but rather than it being Chaotic like Rathalos and Rathian, it would be more like Seltas and Seltas Queen, with the two swimming/flying around in basically perfect harmony constantly spinning like that of a DNA Hylex, while attacking you at the same time and your goal was to Desync them so that they could cause damage to each other because not doing so would spell doom for you. Instead they just had Narwa merk Ibushi and get a power up which was......really boring. It also didn't help there story was not well done either due to Rise's troubles in development and weird set-up. Zorah's a very boring fight as well, but.....he's also a giant Volcano Dragon and having a bad fight can only weigh you down so far when your design looks that fucking cool. Its hard to find an elder to geniuenly hate, but for sure Rise's development did not allow them to really get a good time to shine at all.
It's funny you say this because I do talk about this in Chapter 6. That being said I wish I had compared it to Seltas and Seltas Queen, kicking myself for that one!
Something i wish people understood is rise was made at the peek of covid everything took hits to content fuck covid killed rainbow six siege now we dont get any context these days so like the fact they kept working on the game and tired giving us a new gameplay break with rampages is wonderful they tried and failed but they made it really successful after a few updates and made sunbreak so i hate when people just dog on the game it was enjoyable its a good game but rise 1.0 is ABSOLUTLY ASS but can we appriciate what they did do with it
