NASA does a great job of finding astronauts who won't freak out. They do a LOT of testing to ensure that they won't. Admit it. NASA astronauts are more emotionally stable than either of us.

More concerning is the issue of the thruster failure, which Boing still does not understand. If the spacecraft is not able to complete a thruster de-orbit burn or does but cannot retain the correct re-entry attitude, then we will have a disaster. Understanding and fixing the thruster issue is of prime importance.

With all the known problems, confidence in other systems of the spacecraft is low (heat shield, parachutes, etc.). Feels like a roll of the dice to safely ride back in that capsule.

Boeing Starliner has been beset with continuous problems one after another. It has been plague with multiple issues since the beginning of the flight. The ISS has plenty of supplies in orbit and the astronauts can stay on board for 45 days. During Starliner’s 25-hour flight to the space station, engineers identified five helium leaks and problems with five of the 28 thrusters, which are all located on the service module. Boeing Starliner has helium leaks but it only needs seven hours of helium to return to Earth. The Starliner has over 10 times that amount left on board. NASA and Boeing engineers are troubleshooting various faults in the Starliner spacecraft. I hope NASA is able to rectify the problems to ensure the safe return of the astronauts back to earth.

Theoretically if you had a jetpack with enough fuel to burn to break out of the orbit, to earth, and a pressurized suit with enough O2, YOU COULD TRY THAT IN AN EMERGENCY. If it failed, your body would remain in orbit, and eventually fall to earth. Also, the reentry heat may be too great.😁17,500 mph reentry speed needed from LEO, so a small emergency craft would be good enough, assuming it had proper heat-rejecting tiles, insulation.🚀
