Definately looks like a killer system, very robust and solid with little to no play on the clamping system. Definately a step up from the worksharp. Would love to see edges compared from the Worksharp with the venev stones, holder, and aftermarket accessories to the tsprof with the same venev stones. Thanks for a great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.
Hi Jared, I’m throwing my worksharp in the garbage 😂, This system looks like the real deal !! I bought 12 knives in the last 6 months because of you , what’s another sharpener , Hey your a damn good salesman 🤣
Systems like this are a great investment and are guaranteed to pay for itself in the long run, no fussing just amazing edges, and it makes you love Sharpening, never deal with a dull edge again that's for sure
I used Blitz 360 for 1 year. Then I got K03, and this is next level of sharpening system quality. Seriously I've been surprised that sharpening device can be even more solid, comfortable, safe to use and show much more performance.
Question (maybe you can address this on a future sharpening video or something)…. The spine of most knives is usually thicker toward the back of the blade, then gradually gets thinner toward the tip, right? I realize the BLITZ system (in this video) has two separate “jaws” to hold the knife steady, but most similar sharpening systems (like the Worksharp Precision Adjust) have only one “Jaw” to grab the spine of the knife. My question is this… If the knife is thinner progressively toward the tip, how does this affect the selected sharpening angle as you sharpen the length of the blade?? I’ve been coloring the sharpened edge of my knives with a black marker, then adjusting to the angle that removes all of the marker. No matter what I try though, it seems to remove less as I move toward the tip. How do you account / adjust for this issue? I get most ALL of my blade related info from you and your channel, including how-to’s, reviews, and purchase recommendations. I really hope you can shed some light on this little ‘discrepancy’. Thanks, and have a GREAT day!! MM
"If the knife is thinner progressively toward the tip, how does this affect the selected sharpening angle as you sharpen the length of the blade?? " I have the Blitz, and can answer this... are you talking about distal taper? if so, the spring clamps can easily clamp a full flat grind knife with large distal taper. it just works. The closer a blade is to the TSPROF, the more obtuse to angle will be / the further away it is / the steeper the angle will be. You can minimize the difference with carefully positioning the blade. You usually want to tilt the handle away from you a bit... that way you can reach the tip of the blade easier.
Something else to consider is that the knives you're trying to match the bevel on were probably sharpened on a belt grinder by hand and so there may be slight variations in grind angles at the tip. What's important though is that the knife is sharp and looks good after you slightly re-profile the tip.
Yeah and flipping them introducing further runout, you may get an 11° edge on one side And a 23° on the other setting it at 17° per side. It's bs that you can't zero the angle of the blade from left to right and what I do is change the tool angle off of a measurement on the spine or flat of the knife.
These are really nice. The sad part is plenty of people are buying a 50.00 worksharp then spending over 200 more on upgrades and attachments when they could have just bought something like this and had something really nice instead of a box of cobbled together stuff.
Love your sharpening videos can't wait to see your tips and tricks with tsprof. My kadet is much more enjoyable to use than edge pro. One of the things I struggle with is I'm always afraid to roll the tip and never completely apex the tip before the rest of the blade
It's nice, I've looked at it before but for now the little hacks on the worksharp and my whetstones make me happy. Although the worksharp I would replace FOR SURE with this if I had the $. Maybe after school :)
Great vid, curious how this would do in a small business setting. As in does it hold up over several thousand sharpenings ( excluding stones ). Thanks for the lessons during the breakdowns, clear instructions on how help more then any system.
This thing looks sweet! I have been looking at wicked and kme. This one seems to be a solid build. I think i may buy this very soon....thanks for showing!!!
I wish I had purchased this instead of the Lansky which has a crappy jaw which doesn’t flip, the rods need to be bent and messed around with, and the needed base has to be purchased separately.
What is the brand and model of this sharpener. this seems very nice. I purchased a $35 model off of amazon for a beginner experiment to see how I'd like doing it. I got tired of dull knives and trying to hold an correct angle by hand. I really like this 1 as the knife blade moves for the bevel instead of me having to hold a level on the stone and raising lowering the the arm at the same time. Thank you.
I very nearly went w/ the "Kadet" model - but since I plan on a wider variety of blades, went w/ the KO-3. These TSPROF systems are incredibly well engineered & built...
@@NeevesKnives . When I contacted them because the US didn’t give option to ship to Canada, I contacted them through US site and they got back to me with link for site that ships internationally and they let me know they also ship to Canada. I don’t have Amazon account which is why I contacted them. I did try the affiliate link for US site but couldn’t select another country only allowed USA.
Im looking to buy a Hapstone R2, what is your thoughts between these two models? Im interested in the Blitz mainly because i can buy it inside the EU and because of that it weill be cheaper as I don´t have to pay extra VAT and customs fees.
Not specifically related to sharpening system, but what is the liquid you spray on the stones? It looks like there is some soap or surfactant. If so, what does it do (as compared to water alone)?
does that system allow the clamp to be removed? I have the desktop workshop system and I take out the clamp to look at the edge under an old microscope so I can see the scratch pattern, what areas need to be hit more, and look and make sure a have a burr on the full length of the edge on the other side...
there are to much systems! how are you supposed to decide without testing/buying them all on my List: EP Apex, Habstone R2, KMFS Rival, TSPROF, KME, Wicked edge or should i stick to freehand stone (naniwa/shapton 400-3000 grit) sharpening with a budget of 300€ I know 300€ is not much for a good system and learn to hold the angle :D
How does it clamp on full flat grinds? To me KME's clamp is superior because it follows the angle of the full flat grind and is rubber coated. I do like the double clamp but if it tilts your blade then whats the point. This does look like it has more of a positive lock than the KME which is known to fall on longer heavier kitchen knives. I suppose both have their pros and cons. Nice work on the video and thanks for sharing!
That thing looks amazing. But I cant see paying that much when you got other systems that do some what the same thing. But if money wasnt a factor I would definitely choose this. I like the features & adjustments you can make. Very innovative. Thanks for sharing.
Kind of like knives you get what you pay for, another system can sharpen extremely well but not as good, parts wear out faster, there's movement, and angle capabilities are better. If you switch stones it has an adjustment for that, which no other system has that i know of, Imo it's money well spent, imo it pays for itself when Sharpening high end cutlery.
@@NeevesKnives yeah agree, I have a worksharp adjust and I just purchased the ken onion (can’t wait to use it) but this system also seems great, I can’t wait for you to make more videos on it, when it comes to price I mean yeah it’s expensive but with my work sharp stuff I’m already 300+ in so eh worth it
For that amount of coin, you could buy yourself a seriously good set of sharpening stones from Shapton. In fact, you could buy just three; the Shapton Ceramic Kuromako Blue/Black 320 grit, the Shapton Ceramic Glass 1000 and 4000 grit and all for under $160. Pick up a Nagura finishing/dressing stone for under $10 and you're set for years to come, plus it's more fun learning how to sharpen a knife by hand, IMHO. To each his own though!
@@Equinox051256 Good luck re-profiling a blade or grinding out a chip on a 320-grit stone in any sensible time frame. I learnt to sharpen freehand and got quite good so I appreciate the skill it takes to achieve mirror-polished edges that way but it took too long and requires concentration all the time. These fixed geometry sharpening systems are quicker and arguably better and virtually idiot-proof. I wouldn't buy this though for 2 reasons, cost and 🇺🇦
Why kapton tape instead of masking tape? Seems to be quite expensive when using it just for masking a blade or the scales. Tsprof actually just released their Blitz Pro model which comes anodized black. It has a wider clamp bar and different clamps so it can do knives ~280mm long. The clamp bar also has clamps that can slide on the bar like the Kadet and K03 model instead of just the 2 places that are on the Blitz base and 360 models. Pre orders are shipping now and they should show up at other retailers soon. They also have a bar and clamp upgrade kit available.
I use my blitz 360 everyday but not for it intended use. It turns out that it is an excellent phone holder when its folded up. I mean for what I paid for it I'm going to find a way to get all of my monies worth out of it.
Needs a bigger base with weight. Any movement is not good. Your view that this is the best is very very subjective. The angle indicators are a waste of time. You need an electronic angle finder. The depth if the blade from spine to cutting edge will change will change angle. Even the thickness of the stones can be different and arguably change your angle. The knife can shift in the clamp so a fune point sharpie can be used to trace around the clamping heads. Ditto the sharpie will make the initial grind more visible so if you want to set a profile. I strongly recommend you do this. A good magnifier is also a good purchase. Making sure the apex is in the middle
i have tested many more of there systems, some with better bases you can check those out i prefer them over this one, the kadet pro, and the pioneer which can use the k03 base which ive also posted on
@Neeves Knives either way bro you are killing it! Ive been messing around with some of my cheaper knives and a smiths 3 stone system trying to get that down but for the most part i use my worksharp precision adjust.
@@kylewilliams9710 Well if you look at the measurements available to precisely position the blade as well as the micro adjustments you have your answer. Plus you don't have to constantly flip your blade from one side to the other.
@@NeevesKnives thanks to you, I am actually able to hand sharpen my own knives. I still struggle, im by no means an expert, but because of your videos I am able to put a very nice edge on my blades. So thank you for all that you do!
Hey Jerod love your channel been watching a long time, I was just curious have you ever tried any Hapstone systems? & if so which do you like better TSProf or Hapstone? I'm thinking of getting the new HS rs or saving a few more pennies & getting the TSprof blitz I ask bc I value your opinion greatly ty in advance
Great more $$$s Iv gota spend now? Keep em coming like this and Ill be selling my last kidney to the first buyer. Cheers from Shamesville Cobber!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have those, and no they dont with upgraded aftermarket parts they get very close especially if your using similar abrasives with an aftermarket stone holder attachment. And an aftermarket stand, also the precision and build of the system will make it last far longer, it's a lot easier to use exc.. if your Sharpening one knife a month then of course get something more affordable, but if your Sharpening very expensive knives on a regular bases then this is money well spent, obviously I bought it even though I have other systems already
Advanced Knife bro got a TSProf and the very first knife he sharpened, the wooden knob came off, sending the stone crashing onto his knife. The wooden knob is not threaded and is glued on with crappy glue. When he called them, they gave him some lame ass excuse and he reglued the knob himself. I could never trust a TSProf after that.
I’ve got the k02 and The package was beat up pretty bad in shipping so it arrived with the mounting screw for one of the clamps broken. Customer service immediately replaced the clamp with no issues whatsoever other than that it’s always been pretty solid.
Yeah I've spoken with them and they seem like a good company no complaints on my end, and having to glue a knob back on wouldn't worry me to much but that's me, I've had mine for a couple months of hard use and it's been solid
@@NeevesKnives The issue for me is that when that knob comes off it will send the stone crashing down on the knife you're sharpening. If that knife is expensive then that catastrophic failure would be quite costly. That would really worry me. Would TSProf pay for the knife their sharpener ruined? Not likely.
Yeah but this people costumer service suck as soon they get your money they do not care. I spend almost $2000 for one of this system some par where broken and I got one wrong part they never ever responded I tried few times no response at all do not my advice do not buy anything from this people at all!
I have Blitz 360 and it is perfect. The only upgrade I am planning is to replace the jaws with the ones from the Blitz Pro Upgrade Kit (they have better access to the adjustment screws) and maybe spring-assisted stoppers from Gritomatic/Hapstone. And that's it. For me, a total amateur, this system is still much more than I need - it is precise, compact, built like a small tank and give repeatable results. Thank's for the video and your enthusiasm 😊 Looking forward to more 😊
I've used a lot of systems, having a system like this is much better for beginners than other systems because it takes out a lot of the things that you gave to struggle with from some others
Exactly! That was the main reason why i decided on Blitz. Based on the instructions and the knowledge learned also on your channel i sharpened the ZT 562Ti without any worries. For me this is a huge advantage.
Very nicely made piece of kit but the good old KME is more than enough for me or I want have any fingers that work left at all.! 😂 have a beautiful day Jerad and Kara stay safe and healthy 😘👍
This looks like a well built and sturdy system. Also very expensive. In Canada it details for over a thousand $ 😮. So I convince myself that it’s cool to learn how to do it free hand.
Hi Jarred , Do you think the Tsprof K03 is overkill ? Or is the Blitz 360 just right ? I’m basically going to sharpen pocket knives and occasionally kitchen knives , what’s your take ? because now I’m leaning towards the Blitz , Thanks man
@@jryanr2010 Hey I wound up getting all 3 over time , I got rid of the blitz it’s just to small for my taste , The Kadet pro is very very good I also have the KO3 pro with axicube that one is the ultimate you can basically sharpen anything from a Swiss Army knife to a small sword , I love the axicube and the way you flip the knife with the K03 and it’s heavy so it stays put and doesn’t tilt when you sharpen
I have the TSProf Kadet and I dipped the clamps in plastidip. No taping knives up and you get a better bite with less clamping force. They really should've coated the clamps on all models, but that's my only gripe. Great sharpeners.
@@PeteaUrsu Not really. For one, I am not using a bench grinder to remove the metal. Two, I am not letting it get so dirty that the slurry gets caked on. Three, if for some reason I do use a bench grinder to remove the metal and it gets caked on, because I get too lazy to clean the clamps, I can remove the plastidip really easily and apply more.
