If you don't have the patience to sit there for less than two minutes while waiting to hear literally _some of the first sounds from Mars humanity has ever heard,_ then I've got news for you, buddy. You weren't going to be able to appreciate the sounds anyway, or the unimaginably difficult work it took _real people doing_ for years on end to get them to your ears. Maybe that'll help change your perspective for the next time something like this happens, and you'll hopefully be lucky enough to be conscious and breathing on this planet for the near-instantaneous blink of an eye in history in which the next human milestone will occur. But then again, *maybe not.* That's up to you though, isn't it?
@@persapphone Interesting that you're completely ignoring the context that my statement is in reply to a question regarding the woman. Funny how obvious it is since the person who asked the question is tagged in my reply to them. Thanks for playing Context vs. Assumption/Agenda & giving a bad name to feminists.
@@abstractassassin8767 lol it honestly sucks to be alive in these times due to so many other things, but at least something is going right and is interesting. Just wish I could be apart of it
@@cjay2 I didn't spot that, thank you very much! It's not that what the people are saying isn't interesting, just that I clicked on the vid to hear the uninterrupted sounds not hear people talk over them 😅
I can't believe i can watch another planet's Images, videos and hear sounds from sitting here on chair. This is feat Human used to Imagine 100 years ago. WOW
@@kozatas There's the teensiest bit of difference between real astronomy, physics and Hollywood ... This was not for effect but for research. Just saying.
I've spent a good amount of time in Fuerteventura, and the surface of Mars look hilariously similar to the barron dessert sections of the island. I'm 22 and the more I watch, the more I start to belive we will find life on mars or travel there in my lifetime. incredibly intersting stuff
@@Kay.D , уточните, пожалуйста, о какой именно высадке на Луне идет речь: с космонавтами или луноходами? В первом варианте сомнительно по ряду причин, а во втором - полностью согласен.
How cool would it be to be the guy who designed that microphone and suddenly you've gone from designing an obscure commercial microphone to designing part of a Mars rover!
Absolutely wonderful to hear Ginny's blades as she hovers. I'd be fascinated to learn about how your models predicted sound propagation & how it actually did. That'd be a great video! But please, extend the format if you could. Your current videos are way too short & just leave us hanging...
None: NASA: *THIS IS THE FIRST MICROPHONE WE SEND TO ANOTHER PLANET!* (Wow, keep it up, this is amazing. I can't wait to see those rovers making selfies with people in a few years!)
I wish i was born a few hundred years into the future where we would most likely have the technology and resources to travel to other planets, honestly it’s really sad knowing we will probably never get to experience that
Very negeative way of thinking, they gonna think how it was to live a few 100 years ago, its a endless cirlce of selfpity just live in the now and enjoy what this era has for us😊
What amazes me is both the rover and the helicopter use many commercial electronic components that can be found in consumer devices that any ordinary person can buy, not some kind of state of the art microphones designed specifically for this mission and with a cost of thousands of dollars each.
You're right they could also observe how speakers behave in martian atmosphere. But maybe it's not that important right now that's why they didn't do it.
I have been suggesting to NASA that microphones be fitted to Mars rovers for about five years as any sound that is picked up other than wind, squeaky wheels or meteors crashing into the surface could be a sign of life which would make the humble microphone the most important instrument on board.
Weight considerations. Ingenuity's primary goal was a flight technology proof of concept. Any weight that wasn't directly needed to function in that effort would put the goal at risk. Like packing your suitcase for a trip and discovering it's over the weight limit when you get to the airport. Cameras are necessary for flight navigation, which is why they can make a few frames available for the public to see. But a microphone wouldn't play a useful role in flight demonstration efforts,
Sound of rocks and birds were amazing thought of this many years ago, the Sonic sound is the ultra one, which got connected to both spehere and got vibes , I'm so happy.
I'm slightly bemused as to why you have 'blurred out' DPA Microphones within your microphone images? Surely you should be proud to give DPA the recognition of being the manufacturers of one of the best omnidirectional microphones available today...
@@ark8tct Personally, I don't think they should. But generically speaking ... it probably has to do with the difference between a product purchased through a fair & open competitive bidding process versus purchasing commercial, off the shelf items. In the bidding case, the government mindset may be that there is fair competition and the awardee isn't gaining anything further competitive advantage with the presence of their logo. (Personally, I think there probably is still some level of residual influence.)
Awesome!! It would be much more informative if they included the sound of the Perseverance rover driving on rock and the Ingenuity helicopter flying here on earth at about the same distance from the rover for comparison sake. The sound of the wind sounded similar to wind here on earth blowing across a microphone.

Not to be rude but everyone is saying that and these scientists probably spent years on this stuff then they show it to the world and then people are like “I can’t hear because of them” I could hear it perfectly fine!
Just take a breath and imagine this. What we see here will be home to tens of people in the near future. In a century or two, there will be structures, building blocks, vehicles, tens of thousands of people, possibly some animals will roam the surface of the red planet. And a very few of us might be able to see it in their last few years.
Nice. So having an exposed habitat right on the surface is going to be noisy, and low frequency noisy, which could be maddening. Good to know this beforehand!

I want to hear what the Jimi Hendrix version of the Star Spangled Banner sounds like on Mars. To get the same volume and feedback it may take a dozen more Marshall stacks to pull it off.
You know the old joke about Jimi Hendrix? About how Earth was just a part of his tour? The first song to ever be played on Mars should be All Along the Watchtower, in my opinion.
So.... -why just 2 microphones? They're tiny. Yes, every gram counts. -playing music, or the human voice, or a wolf howl, elephant bass, all would be greatly interesting to hear.
Thanks a lot to hear that 33 million miles from earth. What of playing recorded spiritual music once every week for prayers on Mars for all the religions to appreciate the whole meaning of creation so many miles away!
Sure glad I can't enjoy the splendor of these videos because I wanted to hear the lonely isolation of Mars and some people kept talking over it the entire time! Well done!
Wow, there are those metallic noises because the rover's wheels are totally made of metal! I thought those have tyres like made of rubber. : ) A helicopter can be good with such a deep sound! There is no easy thing to do in this atmosphere and cold. This is awesome, but let me say, it would've been better if scientists hadn’t spoken into the Martian sounds.
While rubber would make for a softer ride, at the slow speeds they're going it isn't really needed. Metal wheels are also a lot more durable to the conditions on mars, mainly the rough surface and chilly temperatures, all of which are not great for rubber's lifespan.
