You are Spot On. Ive been doing taping.at nite now for one month. I sleep better. No snoring. I am Much Calmer. And i think more clearly. Ive even started to nose breath while walking for a bit. BEST thing ive Ever.done.
I absolutely agree Adam. I head that part of the training for Spartan warriors was to run 14 km with a mouth full of water which they had to keep in for the entire run and spit out at the end, this trained them to breath through their noses, so all the way back then they understood the benefits of nose breathing even for their warriors. I have been nose breathing for many years just naturally, i didnt realise many other people dont breathe like that.
wow this might be a game changer so happy i found your channel. I have anxiety and hold my breath a lot and then my sinuses get so clogged , i also sleep with my mouth open it keeps me up all night long. im going to try to actually use my nose and try the tape method! Thank you!!!
Preach, Dr. Fields! I am a speech pathologist and orofacial myologist and nasal breathing is a key part of what I teach my patients. I would add however that before people use mouth tape that goes over the mouth that they get the okay from their cardiologist and ENT to ensure that it’s safe for them. Of course, it they use tape around the mouth as a tactile prompt, that should be okay. Patrick McKeown, who teaches Buteyko breathing has that type of tape on his website (you also showed the around the mouth tape in this video). Thanks for all you do!
I'm so happy to help, Bonnie. Also, check out my podcast with Kiran Krishnan on the microbiome and your nasal airways. So informative and interesting. Don't give up...you were designed to breathe through your nostrils. Sweet dreams
I've been trying to locate a chiro or ENT like you in Missouri but everyone I talk to is like a deer in headlights. It would be great if you could do reccomentions for at least Regions. I'll drive 3 hrs if I have too. Heck maybe more. Maybe make a video of the chiro therapies you do so I can show my chiro?
Dr. Fields, your videos are great, thank you for posting helpful information to the general public. I wonder if you might consider doing a video about the correlation between congestion at the far back of the sinuses and bloating/hyperventilation. This is something I deal with occasionally and apparently many people do, but there's not much info out there connecting those particular dots and doctors often don't even know of a correlation. In my case, I have yet to determine if the congestion causes the bloating or the bloating causes the congestion, but when this happens, those two symptoms occur and the result is an uncomfortable tightening of the solar plexus, trying to take regular deep breaths, which yes, increases anxiety big time. I thought this might be an interesting topic for a future video because my guess is that it might help a lot of people. Thank you.
Yes, Idris, turn on the light switches of better nose, chest, cardiovascular, neurological & diaphragmatic breathing and then reassess your anxiety. I bet you will notice a marked difference in your anxiety. I would say, "I guarantee it" but that would be unprofessional ; )
