Tony Stewart edges Carl Edwards in a championship tiebreaker in the closest points season finale in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series history at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
This goes down as probably my favorite cup race ever. Tony was a man on a mission that night. Carl was on top of his game too, but tony just wouldn't be denied.
As a major Tony Stewart fan since he started his career, this was one of the best races I think he's ever driven, and it was the turning point to me also being an Edwards fan, he wasn't a sore loser, and he was so humble. To see Tony retiring this year, being (currently) in the chase, I'd love to see him do this again, and win 4 championships.
This was probably the most amazing season and win. Think of the odds; Stewart won 5 of the last 10 races and needed to win the last race just to make a tie. And the tie goes to the driver with the most wins. Absolutely stunning.
Great points battle and finish. :) Very happy for Stewart. Wink and a nod to Truex Jr finishing 3rd in this race. Very glad he's found success in the last couple years. Great driver.
I remember watching this race. Seeing Tony make that aggressive pass on the first corner, you just knew he was bound to pull it off. No one was going to be in his way.
2011 NASCAR sprint cup championship which is Tony Stewart's third NASCAR championship was the greatest championship battles ever of all time in NASCAR history
2011 was a great season. I know a lot of people hated it but I loved the tandem racing and seeing these cars as opposed to the Gen6's that they race with now, I really miss the look and size of these. This is personally my favorite season.
Do I miss NASCAR? Ya think? I'm watching a nineteen year old race, albeit the best I ever attended. I had Tony on the scanner all the way, and it was just confidence, not to worry, all day long. Miss ya Smoke!
Sure, but that doesn't make it a good finish to a championship. Like this one in 2011, this was literally two guys fighting for the win and the championship. 2004 was great, don't get me wrong, but the whole 2004 season? No thanks.
Tony Stewart was my favorite Driver. He put alot of excitement into Nascar. The 1 downside was Darian Grub and how he was let go. Darian was a heckofa Crew Chief and yet, Stewart fired him. It was set in stone even Before the Championship race. It was a wrong move on Stewart's part. I don't know what Darian DID to deserve the firing ? This is thee only black eye I can see on Stewart's character. It was Wrong and it should Not have been executed, ESPECIALLY since Darian helped get Tony the Championship. You could see in the end the pain that Darian was under. Sad indeed.
I was so pissed off at Stewart when this happened and now I like him, which is pretty hilarious. Sad that something like this will never happen again (with the close points battle)
what are you talking about? 4 drivers are in a dead-even tie going into the final race this season. You watch this coming Sunday how close and fierce the racing gets for the Championship
This was the best championship race of the Chase era such as 1992 was the best Winston Cup year. The playoffs produce this type of “winner take all” race artificially, it just isn’t the same.
I still think that the way Darian Grubb was let go,,,was classless. I don't know the reason or the why's and who's, it just seems Ridiculous. You just don't FIRE your Crew chief after he was instrumental in getting this championship. Ever since,,Stewart has been having nothing but misfortune. You Reap what you Sow.
Damian Arnold i wouldnt look so sure at that the 24 team that byrons in is the 5 team from last year so it will suck and hendrick as a whole is sucking
I wouldn't say Hendrick is sucking. Frankly, I think the Camaro has a lot to do with the team's struggles. It's being outperformed aerodynamically compared to the fords and toyotas. Also, with all the rule changes, especially the no ride-height rule that got implemented a few years back, plus the changes in 2017/2018, I don't think Hendrick has been on top of the ball when compared to teams like Gibbs. But I definitely think the Camaro has a lot to do with it. It also doesn't help when you lose two of your veteran drivers who won races for you. Gordon gone, Earnhardt gone, and now they bring in two kids to replace them. They have potential, but it still hurts to lose two veteran drivers. I don't think Bowman was ready to get the #88 ride. I'd prefer they target someone like Larson or Truex Jr but it'd have to be a contract year obviously.
i like these abbreviated races except they dont show many of the reasons for the restarts. or maybe those were for debris? in that case we arent missing anything lol
I'm glad Stewart won. Like him or hate him you always knew where he was coming from and he always gives it his all. I was never fooled by Edwards and his aww shucks every man. He was just as dirty as the rest. This race proved who the true champion was. Stewart went on to more wins and championships with his other drivers and Edwards quit. This race broke him. Quitters aren't winners.
Tony sold his soul to the Devil for that one. Just remember, the Devil created idiots who walk onto a race track after they crash. Payback is always hell with the Devil. Whether it is your fault or not simply does not matter.
