Former NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series driver Ernie Irvan spent his time in NASCAR from 1986-1999. He drove for several different teams along the way including D.K Ulrich, Morgan McClure Motorsports, Robert Yates Racing and MB2 Motorsports. Also making select starts in the Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series driving for his own operation. Irvan was the driver who permanently took over the seat vacant by Davey Allison upon his sudden death in 1993. Then in 1994 while amongst a furious battle with Dale Earnhardt for the 1994 NASCAR Cup Series championship, he suffered life threatening injuries in a practice crash in turn 2 at Michigan International Speedway. Resilient, Irvan recovered and was back in a racecar by the end of the 1995 NASCAR season. Full-time in 1996, and actually won 2 Cup Series races and finished top 10 in final points. The team and Irvan parted ways at the conclusion of the 1997 NASCAR season. For 1998 he drove for the #36 Skittles Pontiac for MB2 Motorsports. Then again in '99, but that is where 5 years to the day, Irvan was practicing his #84 Xfinity Series car at Michigan and another life threatening injury. Two weeks later surrounded by his family and friends, Ernie Irvan announced his retirement from driving race cars.
