At 4:14, we called that the two car tandem, which was a product of the aerodynamic package at the time. They usually were teammates, but at the end of the race is was just whoever was with you. In this specific clip, the 7 and 5 were teammates and the 20 and 11 were teammates. Once you get to the last corner though, it was pretty much every man for themselves.

I'm back! Ready to give you more knowledge on the sport I love the most. Hope you get some things out of this. 4:05- This was the 2013 NASCAR Xfinity Series race @ Talladega Superspeedway. It took place just after the time when the "two-car tandem" was a thing in the sport's highest division, the Cup Series. The Xfinity Series, which is the division below Cup, had car bodies (and still kinda do) that were damn near flat at the back & front, which meant that a duo of vehicles could link up and work together over the course of whatever time they decide. With all this being said, this meant that this specific race had groups of two spread throughout the field, throughout the race. Teammates worked together a lot quite obviously, but also drivers who trusted each other, and random drivers that decided to work together because there was no other option, considering the race was winding down. Ironically, the guy that got turned @ 10:13 was the one who decided to go with a bonsai three-wide pass on the bottom to win in a spectacular photo-finish, which was another addition to the awesome superspeedway races the Xfinity Series had at the time. 5:13- I was one of the several 10s of thousands that were there. The race I'm talking about was the 2013 Auto Club 400, which was the 5th round of the 2013 NASCAR Cup Series season that year. This event was actually the first NASCAR National Touring Series race I ever attended, being that I was almost a lifelong fan at that point, and I'd only attended events down at the local shorts tracks that held regional NASCAR racing. And for the record, that race was simply fucking awesome, just by looking at the product itself and not the first-time experience I had at being at a Cup Series race. You had everything you could've asked for, and the finish was icing on the cake. The three that were leading on the final lap had been dominating all day, though the first two, Denny Hamlin & Joey Logano, had an altercation the previous week @ Bristol, meaning that they came into this event 7 days after with history. This also isn't mentioning the fact that this race the first for the (at the time) newly-introduced Gen-6 cars at the racetrack, Auto Club Speedway. I can dive deep into the specifics of the context of what went on around this race, but here's a video that explains it all: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FVZHVdYJseQ.html *Note: the video I requested you to watch was made by a diehard NASCAR fan made for other diehards like me, so if there's anything you aren't familiar with that the video says, just know that this wasn't meant for new fans who were coming in right away, like you. Also to note, the introduction of said video is dated badly, as the Next-Gen car for the Cup Series that's mentioned, isn't gonna race in 2021, instead it's 2022. Other than that I don't think there are any other corrections I have to make. 8:20- React to the video that highlights the context of this finish. That's all I have to say: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sxcooczsiBI.html 8:40- Once again, react to the highlights of the context of this race. Made by the same person who made the video I recommended above, he goes into detail on the importance of the 1979 Daytona 500 to NASCAR and its future: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2iZz0aF1v3k.html 10:33- Ironically, what you said actually had gotten into the minds of NASCAR execs, but it wasn't for competitive reasons-- Kyle Larson's 32 Camaro had flied into the catchfence, injuring dozens of fans. This, was obviously a product of the two-car tandems that I'd explained earlier. I don't think it wasn't until after the Talladega race I explained, that NASCAR made a rule for the Xfinity Series & Truck Series, that the drivers in those two divisions couldn't lock bumpers and completely push each other at the superspeedways of Daytona & Talladega. In fact, that rule still exists. The problem is, bad wrecks still happen, even with rules like the one I just explained. 11:53- The way NASCAR race teams go about their equipment is both fascinating & complicated, so here's the jist: All of the highly-funded race teams build track-specific chassis for each type of venue on the schedule. For example, there are road courses, short-tracks, a dirt-surfaced short-track, 1-mile tracks, 1.5-mile tracks (also called cookie cutters & intermediates), 2-mile tracks, 2+-mile tracks not named Daytona & Talladega, & the all-conquering superspeedways of Daytona & Talladega, and each of the big-budget organizations build chassis, engines, bodies, etc., for all of those venues. In this case, this was a superspeedway car used & built by Roush Fenway Racing that was destroyed in a spectacular accident. Because of it being destroyed, Roush had to scrap that specific car and eliminate it from its fleet, so it built another superspeedway car for the remaining races at Daytona & Talladega. I don't know what came after Talladega in 2009, but I know it wasn't a superspeedway. So with that being said, Roush went back to the race shop in North Carolina, and took whatever cars they had built for the track next, to said next event. Get what I mean? *And not to mention, each of the big-buck teams bring backup cars of similar specs, in case the primary is damaged heavily in practice or qualifying. In 2021, however, that won't be the case at most of the races next year, as most Cup events are 1-day shows, at older, more well-established tracks, due to COVID concerns & cost-saving measures. There will be race weekends that see an old track hold a race on back-to-back days, again with no practice or qualifying, known as doubleheaders. In doubleheader weekends, teams will have the opportunity to bring the same car that raced on Saturday and use it on Sunday. Some won't opt to do that, as that will add on wear & tear on said vehicles. If the primary that was raced on Saturday gets wrecked in said race, teams will roll out backup cars they brought, and use them on Sunday. 13:42- Ironic you said that, race winner James Buescher was all the way back in 11th on the final lap when that crash happened. Wild finish. 15:17- Unfortunately, this race, the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series event @ Talladega, wasn't Brennan Poole's first career win in that division. Why? Well, NASCAR threw the caution just before the finish, and under NASCAR rules, the race winner at the end of an event ending under caution, is determined the moment at which the caution was thrown, by way of camera footage. At the moment the caution was thrown, Elliott Sadler in the 1, who was the one who turned Joey Logano's 22, was in the lead by a small margin over Brennan Poole & Justin Allgaier. This meant that Elliott Sadler in the blue 1 Chevy, was the race winner. There's a comprehensive look at the context behind the things you wanted to know more about. I sincerely hope you get to react to the videos I recommended, because you won't be disappointed by any of them. See you in another NASCAR reaction video!

I appreciate F1 and their high performance, computer modeled cars. These cars are the most complex in the world, made with the best materials by the most experienced car builders and scientists working together to build these amazing cars. But NASCAR is real racing. All of the cars are pretty much the same with little to choose between them. NASCAR is about the drivers and their teams. It's bumper to bumper, rim to rim, high energy racing where one slight mistake can cost you the race, your life, or another drivers life. It's 200 mph in rush hour traffic. There is nothing like the sound of 30 cars at 200 mph roaring past you. Nothing like it. By the way, NASCAR is the biggest spectator sport in America. By far.

@@TheBeesleys99 Nascar is arguably the same way. The discrepancies between the top teams and backmarkers are huge. But I think where they differ is the endurance factor. Car setups can change over the course of the race, drastically. You need to have a good car and have a good driver that can get you to the finish after 500 miles, but usually the most that'll afford you is a chance at the victory.

The number 18 car at 6:00 was able to come out of nowhere because these guys just started RIGHT after a caution and the 18 car hung waaaaaay back behind the pack and timed it just right so that he started accelerating before the caution ended and as soon as they waved the green flag and the pack started accelerating, the 18 was already moving WAY faster and he zipped right on past everyone. Very risky move but it payed off! There's actually an onboard cam from the 18 car that you can see everything from his perspective.

As I understand it, the big successful NASCAR teams have a car for every track. They run most tracks 2x a year, so they may have upwards of 16 or 17 cars (I think they run 30+ races a year in normal year). The smaller teams have cars for each type of track they run, high-banked superspeedways, 1.5 mile ovals, one mile ovals, 1/2 mile ovals and road courses. I don't know how many engines, etc., they're allowed per season (if there are rules about this?) but there are rules about what can be done during a race weekend as far as changes, substitutions, etc.

@WhatDayIsItTrumpDay
@WhatDayIsItTrumpDay 3 года назад
You asked about what teams do about wrecked cars and subsequent races and whatnot. Well, each race team (driver) brings up to 3 cars to each event. If they wreck the car beyond repair during Qualifying, Practice, or Races prior to the main event, like Daytona 500 has several races before the main race on Sunday, they get to go to a backup car to weigh then they have to start the main race at the back of the field if it's already past the Qualifying event. This process repeats for every different track in the circuit. The teams are constantly building cars back at their home base garages. You kinda have to to maintain a supply of cars due to accidents. But of course if a car survives a race, it can be used for later races after minor repairs. And then of course each track requires a different set-up, so you have to build each car with a certain set up in mind to then tweak a little bit at the track. There's also different aeropackages at each track that better suits the the conditions at each track. For example, different heights of the rear spoilers and different sizes of the front splitters. Different suspension stiffness as well.
@tjohn4398
@tjohn4398 Год назад
If nascar officials believe the crash was deliberate, the driver of the car causing the crash can be black flagged, or suspended for the remainder of the race, or the remainder of the race and the next race, or for 2 more races, or for the remainder of the season. NASCAR does not like to see deliberate crashes, especially in a sport in which people can easily be killed.

The ones with cars hooked by two (technical term "tandem drafting") used to be the best way to race at superspeedways (namely Daytona and Talladega, huge tracks where you never brake, you're always going full throttle and top speed), and yes it was often a team strategy, as you want to draft with someone you can trust. But it was not so uncommon to see drivers from different teams pairing up. If you want a great story during these tandem drafting years, check out the 2011 Daytona 500. The Daytona 500 is the first race of the season, and the most prestigious race in NASCAR, think of the Indy 500 in Indycar, the Monaco GP in F1, the 24h of Le Mans in endurance, ... That year's race was pretty exciting with a great result. Also, for that 2011 season (it was banned in 2012), NASCAR gave drivers the ability to communicate with each others during races on the aforementioned superspeedways. That was a cool strategical element. Feel free to watch it by yourself though, there might be copyrighted music and/or footage. And if you record a reaction, don't worry about making it in multiple parts, it's quite long (~40 minutes) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tHWs8AhIBFw.html

Since NASCAR is an expensive sport as you can see the cars are going to wreck at some point, they have owners. All owners can own up to 4 cars in a given race these are called "teams" as your not gonna wreck your own owners car, but this also doesn't mean your gonna give up the win. Most of the time you will see teammates bunch up at a point in the pack and then draft each other to get ahead and act as blockers for others, but once up in the top ten or so it becomes free game to win the race usually. You do get non teammates drafting each other sometimes as you both get a boost from it, but its more common for teammates to do it with each other.

They have a large group of cars that they build. They will usually have groups of cars for short tracks, then some for superspeedways, road courses. They will also have back up cars at the track that they can use if they wreck in practice, qualifying or warm ups, but once the race starts they can no longer trade cars. If they wreck and go to a backup car they then have to start the race at the back of the pack. If you wreck during the race you're done.

They only really draft on the restrictor plate races(Daytona and talladega) those are the ones with the large packs of cars tight together. They also make the largest wrecks. I suggest ya watch the documentary the day

usually at Dega and Daytona, Manufactures ie chevy, Ford and Toyota work as a group, like their could be 5 chevys running 12345 than 5 Fords 678910 and etc. But last lap 90% of the time, all tht goes out the window. Now when ur actully at a Nascar race, its a major experience. Here in the states they have experiences where u could actually drive a NASCARcar(not the speed drivers run), i ran a car at Chicagoland speedway 3 years ago, got a top speed of 150 MPH. In a actul race, u get more G Force than lets say a rollar coaster, ur in tht bucket Seat, u could only move ur eyes

4:15 It was the result of them taking advantage of the Aero package they ran where two cars nose to tail was faster than a whole pack. They called it Tandem racing lol

The sad part about the last death being in 2001 was it took the death of one of the sports greatest to change things, not the 3 deaths the year before in 2000...

@@TheBeesleys99 Brock Beard has a great documentary on the subject ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5ibggCOGqpo.html Infact he has A LOT of really good NASCAR history content, Iceberg and Slapshoes are GREAT as well.

4:05 There was a period for a few years where the different teams figured out a system that allowed drivers to talk to each other over radio, allowing them to coordinate the "two-car tandems" as they were called. This departure from pack racing upset a lot of fans so NASCAR banned intercar communication. That and new body designs, making the locking of bumpers difficult, ended two-car tandems and pack racing returned. The tandems usually didn't involve cars from the same owner, instead, verbal agreements that, of course, ended on the last lap.
