I was just going to suggest that! Rusty Wallace clocked a 238 mph average with 241 mph recorded at the start/finish line back in 2004. What would be even more fun would be to pit Bobby Isaac's 1971 Dodge Charger Daytona (race trim AND Bonneville spec) against a 1971 Elf Tyrroll-Ford. Come on, do it! Sir Jackie loved NASCAR and used to call the races on Wide World of Sports!

It did happened. Back in 80s lol. This is the reason why. I know bill elliott went 212mph and still held today cuz of restrictions. I forgot who actually went more than that and end up sliding and nearly flying to fence

​@MrZrazies rusty Wallace ran an unrestricted mid 2000s car at dega, and hit over 240mph. And back then, the engines were unrestricted when it came to hp at standard tracks. Nearly 1000hp, and 10,000rpm

No. During 2.5 weeks in Europe I counted fifteen things I can do in there that I can't in the US. That number has grown in the meantime. How many laps would it take for a F1 to lap an Indycar in COTA? 8? 😛

I think that depends on what track. If its not flat-out for Indycar, than F1 would easily be faster. However, Indycars in superspeedway areo would be around 20mph faster on a straight.

Real F1 engines last 6-7 full GPs. (Granted, they don't run entire race flat out, but still)

They would easily do 500miles the only limiting factor is fuel tank size. If they were allowed to refuel, yes they could do it

Nope, the superspeedway car doesn't get there without the draft

Not anymore. They used to have a lot more power. The car from about 10 years ago was much faster on the superspeedways. Their peak was in the late 80's, before restrictor plates. Bill Elliot set the fastest lap ever qualifying at 212 mph at Talladega in 1987. There were several crashes after that in which the cars got airborne and nearly flew into the spectators. Nascar cut the hp for Talladega and Daytona and did it even further a few years ago for all tracks. Tracks like Texas and Atlanta had much faster lap times in the early 2000s and those track records will never be broken either. The side effect for cutting the power is that now all the cars are stuck in packs and can't drive away from each other. The crashes are more frequent and more cars are involved usually. And yes, they still flip over and tumble through the air sometimes.
