The statue is the largest indoor sculpture in the western world. This is what dates look like these days. We get a free hour and try to explore something together! I really liked the prism! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partheno...)
Shows that even a simple crack in a glass door can be amazing if you simply pay attention to the beauty around you. And that gryphon was part was hilarious. :D
I was there a few years ago, it was while they were gilding the statue, it was all covered up with scaffolding, it didn't make for a good photo op at that time.
Haha, the rainbow got more attention than anything else! Go prisms! Athena was a very angry/wrathful goddess. As a spider lover I'm more interested in the story of Arachne rather than the story of Medusa, but that snake plate may actually be Medusa's head mounted on her shield. Don't know about the actual snake next to the shield, though. Thank you for taking us along on your date!
YAY NASHVILLE!!! You probably passed very close to where I live! Athena, in my opinion, was a LOT more impressive before she was gilded. And the snake shield came from the story of when Athena defeated Medusa. She used the head to make the shield. (I've had many field trips to the Parthenon.)
With so many people around I bet you didn't try to move one of the doors on the west side. They weigh 7.5 tons apiece and yet you can easily move one with just a push.
Personally I was very impressed by The Parthenon and the Athena statue. Even if it isn't carved from a 40' tall piece of marble. It is the largest indoor statue in the country.
Destin I'm curious about the prismatic effect from the two panes of glass. Is it because of the gap in some way? I get the way a triangular wedge of glass bends the light, but this seems different.
It's really the face of the pane of glass and its edge that is forming a 90 edge that acts as the prism, the other pane of glass doesn't have anything to do with the effect.
NO you should not insult the gods! They still reside in Mount Olympus which is at the top of the Empire State building. The Nashville Parthenon has been considered a haven for the Children of Athena who seek protection from the monsters of Tartarus!

That's more accurate than the rainbow song I was taught, red and yellow and pink and green, orange and purple and blue, I can sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow, sing a rainbow just like you
They actually discovered that indigo is not a specific wavelength so it isn't in the rainbow anymore. Why do scientists make things less fun like making Pluto not a planet anymore....just sad.
Do you know of any way to stop this "new tab when clicking on time marker" dickery? Because I don't like how it sends me to a new tab instead of just playing the video from a said marker. ):
The real Athena Parthenos statue don't exist and i'm sure that you know :D but i wanna surprise you, the real statue was a *chryselephantine* sculpture, mean that it was made with gold and Ivory :D getting smarter everyday!
