Justin Cortelyou is a Grammy-award nominated, multi-platinum mixing engineer/producer. Justin started his career working with Chuck Ainlay at Soundstage Studios in Nashville before moving to Los Angeles to work with mix-master Mike Shipley at The Animal House. Justin teamed up with artist/producer Tommy Henriksen and in 2008, moved their operation back to Nashville and began working with legendary producer, Bob Ezrin.
Through the years, Justin has worked with artists Paul McCartney, Alice Cooper, Ke$ha, Taylor Swift, Jerrod Niemann, Phish, Chingy, Vince Gill, Andrea Bocelli, U2, Randy Travis, KISS, Will I Am, Lady Gaga, and many others.
Justin also has an incredible course, Recording & Mixing Country, where you will learn the art of producing Country. This course includes all multitracks of the song ‘Pinstripe Suit’ by multi-plantinum country artist Johnny Reid.

I always look forward to the possibility of someone having an LA3A and/or a Compex when I watch your studio tour vids because of the things you mention for each. The Compex comment is "It took me forever to dial it in on a drum room and then when I finally got it I was like 'don't touch it!'" and your LA3A comment is "That's perfect on guitars when you want that snappy spanky Fleetwood Mac sound 'p-ah p-ah p-ah.'" You're a riot, Warren, never change! 🤩😝

I bought 2 M160 Beyerdynamic mics probably 4-5 months ago. I bought the first one, and I loved it more than I thought I would. I had to get a 2nd incase of drum overheads or stereo rooms; stereo anything really, because they're friggin' awesome.

Can you use them with phantom power switched on? My mixer only have phantom power for 8 channels at a time. I hope to upgrade my cascade fathead pair in the future.

Watching PLAP for a couple of years now. Really appreciate it. especially the studios. Went back and watched most of them going back into the whole PLAP back episodes. But, I can't help but mock those who rule so I apologize for my inner dialogue as it goes something like "omg could you imagine if these guys were into suits and talking about Italian designers and the thread they use and the cut of the pant cuffs and how the cuff breaks so nice over the shoe and ... " While I go back into my studio and try to play a part without too many mistakes. Great presentation as always. And it wasn't too long so that helps my day. (They never seem to long to me BTW) Thanks PLAP (ok ... back to my NT1 through a Behringer ultra pro through a focusrite 2pre dreaming of fancier gear,) BEST! Todd

Wow what a beautiful studio, love seeing all these studio and how they are set up. Keep these videos coming please. I think this was the first one that uses a single stereo mic on overheads. That was interesting.

Nice studio! How would you recommend that I mic the Leslie cabinet? Right now I have two t.bone mb 85's -SM58 clones - in x/y at the top and a AKG C1000 with the plastic thingie inserted - so it becomes a supercardioid - at the bottom. It sounds pretty good, but I'm not sure I "need" two top mics? We're recording everything live in the same room.

Loved the tour and the joy in your faces. I’d love to understand the finances behind these types of studios, as the outlay seems unfathomable relative to the prevailing studio rates - maybe it takes 20 years to break even… but with great music and fun along the way…

None of these are started from scratch, obviously everyone here is in their 40's and have been making music for decades. This is a lifetimes worth of gear that's been accumulated, old gear has been sold and new gear bought!
