When Paine sledged Ashwin there was still enough time left in the game.When he said to see him at the Gabba it seemed that Paine had given up.A defeatist mentality.
Numbers might reflect that India lost the 1st Test convincingly, but that wasn't the case, India won most of the sessions till that's 1st session on Day3, where they lost the game.
Australia won 2nd and 3rd day 1st sessions in 1st test.. India lost last 4 wickets quickly in 1st innings on Day 2. We missed the chance to get 100+ lead. Australia always won matches by winning key moments at start and end of Day's play.
Inexperience of India in playing pink ball test was exposed at Adelaide test which was only the 2nd pink ball test played by India. Australia is one of the two founders of international test cricket played with the red ball. It played its first red ball test in 1877 yet in 1902 Birmingham test of Ashes, Australia lost all 10 wickets for 36 runs & that Birmingham test was much more than red ball test no 2 played by Australia. In 2020-21 BG Trophy, Australia could not win even 1 out of 3 redball tests at home vs touring team from India but instead had to take the help of pink ball to win a test vs touring Indian team.
This win of India is not equal to the Ashes win of England back in 2005. Please remember that India was playing in Australia as compared to England playing in their home condition and in addition India had no bowling power wereas England in that series was with full bowling strength.
England & Australia are the two founder nations of international test cricket playing it for the last big 144 years from 1877. They are the only 2 nations to play international test cricket for big period of 144 years. They are the two topmost experienced nations in playing international test cricket. India which played its first international test in 1932 is not even the 3rd most experienced nation in playing international test cricket. So it is always prestigious and creditablr for India to win a series of tests in England & in Australia.

India still needs to win test series in SA. The true champion of international test cricket is the West Indies team of 1980-1994 which achieved the unique and extraordinary record of not losing 29 consecutive series of tests played anywhere in the world be it a series of just 1 test or be it a series of as high as 6 tests. That aside it will remain always creditable and prestigious for India to win a test or a test series in the founder nations of England & Australia.

Shardul/Washy/Pandya either one of them will be good enough replacement. I would choose Shardul personally as he is a bettef bowler than the other two and can bat well too.

My view is that sledging brings some zing in the proceedings albeit if the sledging does not have a racial bend. It is good entertainment. Enjoyed the Paine ash banter.
Kohli' s real challenge is how he motivates each member of the team and make astute field placings and bowling changes.Hope he has learnt by observing Rahane closely.

Rahane handled that situation like a true leader.There were only 3 to 4 drunken youth who did this.Rahane did not leave the field even when offered by the umpires but ensured the culprits were removed from the ground.Rahane said,We are here to play cricket.

First test victory of Aussies are just a fluke. India just had no experience in pink ball test. I bet if given target of 125+ they all fall like pack of cards against Indian pace attack.

We beat a much better Australian team though. They’re one of the best teams ever. And we were better than them. 2005 is number 1 followed by this series. In my opinion. That’s not to say it’s definite fact though.

The thing is india is the only test team that's competing away from home. Specially in the tough sena tours. In asia, they dominate just like they do at home. What ipl has done is increased the competetion far more, and far more importantly increased the options way more. There is serious competetion in the test team. You can't perform and you are under pressure Back in 18, kl rahul and murali vijay's bad performances introduced mayank agarwal to the team. And his bad performances later introduced the laidback class shubhman gill. Now that gill is injured and kl rahul being a key component behind india's glorious dominance of the english summer in england, even gill is worried for his future. The competetion for almost every spot is insane. Which no other team is facing. For they can hardly have a 2nd test 11
So England lost because they couldn’t find moin a place in the team. I think irrespective of finding a proper spin bowler, india would have still won. Root became the best spinner but still india came out ok.
Kohli the batsman is excellent but that does not imply he is a good captain.Rahane is miles better and the magic will be lost against England with Kohli as captain.I do not agree with Swann that Kohli is a demi god .Even if he is full God ,Rahane is a much better captain.The sooner Kohli accepts it,better for Indian cricket.Even if Rahane fails as a batsman,he should be included as Brearley was for England.

1. Kohli has also won many games for India and Rahane has only captained in a few so that comparison is very unfair 2. Kohli has a lot to do with the overall character of the team which won in Aus. It cannot be that Indian team and bench strength suddenly became strong as soon as Rahane took over. 3. It is quite bizarre to suggest that it is okay to have Rahane as a captain even if he does not perform with the bat. In that dressing room, people will only follow their leader if he is consistently inspiring others with his own performance. If Rahane does not perform with bat, he himself will not be at his best state of mind-and who needs that in a captain? Let’s be honest, Rahane hasn’t really done all that well with the bat so he has miles to go before anyone can consider him for captaincy. 4. When you change captains, especially a strong player like Kohli, it will impact the overall dressing room atmosphere and may result in conflicts that could easily affect the team negatively. 5. Why screw things up for your team if you really support it? Don’t be too greedy. The team is doing well even under Kohli.

Rahane is a black belt in karate breaking 50 bricks back to back and having 50 people step on his stomach area.His zen like calm percolates down to every single member of the team who then perform at their best.Rahane said that he sees a match winner in every member.Kohli could never have won the series with a depleted team
