Jamel: In Mexican music, we sing to love, to sorrow, to pain, to dreams, to the joy of life and to death; in a joyful way to remember the one who are not anymore with us, and and with sadness for that love that went away. You got it right: the translation in that particular part of the song you were looking for would be like: “Is there a darker color than the one of my sorrow?” Love your videos !
I love seeing those Mariachi guys smiling all along the song, they are the happiest when their beautiful music and effort is matched with beautiful angelic voices.
Both Amazing Singers ❤️Lila Downs is a Mexican Treasure...she is a Grammy winner....I just saw her in concert in Santa Barbara and Tucson Az within two weeks because I took my family after seeing her myself and being blown away. Check out "la llorona" , Paloma Negra" "Clandestino" and "la Bruja" with Eugenia Leon another amazing singer ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
"CIGARRA" Means CICADA in English, my friend! They say they want to die singing, just like the cicada does. I love your reactions! LYRICS The Cicada don't sing to me anymore, cicada let your singsong end for your song, here in the soul stabs me like a dagger knowing that when you sing you are proclaiming that you are going to your death sailor, sailor tell me if it is true that you know because i cannot distinguish if in the depth of the seas there is another color blacker than the color of my sorrows. a little dove upon flying bearing a wounded breast was about to cry and told me very afflicted i'm tired of searching for a mutual love. under the shade of a tree and to the beat of my guitar i sing this huapango happily because my life is ending and i want to die singing like the cicada dies.
My grandma does Mariachi music. She has a thunderous voice and has the most insane stage presence. It’s captivating watching her. I can’t wait to see her and hear her sing when we visit home for the holidays. Thank you for reacting this beautiful music a lot of us call home. ♥️
It's no mystery that Jimenez has always been an amazing singer but it is still mind-boggling how good she is in this entire album. There are talks of a Volume 2. God I hope so!
aun no he escuchado esa cancion por la voz de Lila. but i'm gonna search for it righ now. conheço essa canção e tenho certeza que ficou muito bonita na voz dela.

Linda Ronstadt has a whole album of classic Mexican music. It’s called Canciones de mi Padre. Y Andale is one of my favorites. She also sings La Cigarra. This is great.
I am glad you apreaciate our Hispanic culture. I am hispanic not mexican but definitely appreciate mexican culture. Brotha I apreciate you for been open minded to other cultures. It says a lot about you. Keep the videos coming. You made my day lol
This was a such a great interpretation from this girl's. . Beautiful voices and impeccable inspirations... congratulations.. lila downs its one of my favorite singers
Realmente me emociono mucho esta canción , hacia mucho tiempo que no la escuchaba pero particularmente de esta forma de dueto it is amazing man thanks a lot.
You have only touched the surface of traditional mariachi singers and believe me should one put on those beautiful mariachi suits, better deliver those notes because although we cannot sing, we know what is expected! Thank you for sharing your reaction. I am a very proud Mexicana/Philipina whose grandmother played this incredible genre since I was a little girl. RIP Abuelita!
The best rendition of this song in my humble opinion is Linda Rondstandt live. Please review her. She is on another level and beautiful rendition. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Jamel, thanks for your great reaction to this beautiful song and the marvelous performance, not only Lila and Natalia's, but of the mariachi as well. This song portrays a very Mexican way to deal with life: to deal joyfully even with the darkest moments of life, because life is too short to waste time mourning. There is a very popular Mexican saying: "Si me han de matar mañana que me maten de una vez" "If they are going to kill me tomorrow, then let them kill me right now", something which is very similar to the feeling of this song.
Hola amigo vi tu reacción de este hermoso vídeo.la verdad son las dos grandes artistas hermosas y talentosas...ya me suscribi y te dejo un hermoso like...saludos de Puebla México
Jamel you are awesome.you have a passion for voices! Sounds to! The day you go to visit Mexico.. OH just stay for a few months because guy you are loved!
These two women are goddesses in my view. And you're right. A whole lot is lost in translation... but at least you can get an idea of what the song is about. It makes more sense when you have a little background on the singers and the song and why people like them so much.
