I can't believe she's moving around so much. I'm not an opera buff and I had never seen her before this but during the humping bit, she is really moving and still hit the pitch directly in the middle!
The great operatic stars combine excellent vocal technique and great acting. Natalie Dessay is simply one of the very best prima donnas of our time. You are correct that she shows great skill in being able to maintain the posture to sing correctly while making those exaggerated physical movements. This is as good as it gets.

I just checked out Janečková to be sure I have it the benefit of doubt. I have no evidence about the acting since it would not be fair to compare with a concert version. As for the singing, overall very good - but not quite as this breath of fresh air from Dessay. As for the final high note, this one here really is the stuff of legend in the context of the 21st century.
I really like each and every performance of Natalie Dessay. Her singing and acting is really magnificent There was a more recent performance of her for Olympia but it was a different production. Her acting was even better. But now I cannot find that video here...

I would suggest you to write to the Opéra of Paris and ask for a copy. Usually they always provide copy of videos to the artists involved in previous productions!

Seriously amazing, obscene, and so very funny! Ms. Dessay's voice is exceptional. I got to visit the Paris Opera House when I was 10 and it was wonderful. I was wondering if the Phantom was home.

I have no idea what Natalie‘s vocal range is, but there is a high Ab6 in this performance that many people say she could not/would not attempt to hit after her vocal cord surgery in either 2004 or 2005
You're right, Dessay was still able to sing beautifully from 1990 To 2008-2010, after that her voice was not made for deepest roles so she stopped right there and she was right !

at the end of this scene, when Olympia goes out of control, they pulled off her wig and dress and she was totally bald and wearing a full plastic Barbie doll body suit underneath. You can just see the top of it above the costume. It was hilarious.
