She plays very naturally, very sincerely, very honestly. Very fluid and effortless. No pretenses at all. Straightforward and honest-to-goodness. She definitely has my vote.

If you can nail Mozart's "vous dirai je maman" at age 11 like she did... the sky's the limit... Hell, we don't call that piece Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for nothing. Still like'd love to see her let cut loose and just improvise... cause playing classics is just repetition .... Some Boogie Woogie or some Jerry Lee Lewis... please

don't agree, needs more strength especially the opening. the agitato section is rather soft, not with passion and strength.

Are you her boyfriend?
@diegotroetsch6303
@diegotroetsch6303 5 лет назад
Brandon Hwang she masters the piece pretty much anyway, you might point some ridiculous flaws but the main goal of those dynamics written on paper is to express a feeling... and I must say that many of us enjoy her way of playing. If music were to be played perfectly then we should expect some robots to start to play instead of humans. :)

@bakuto.1055
@bakuto.1055 5 лет назад
@@agamaz5650 nah thats the sweetest passage of them all. Chopin in his manauscripts sometimes described what was happening at the time in his life that inspired a piece. Being the scherzo's case, he wrote a lot about it. Specifically about that passage, like coming home but it is a new section but however you still feel like you're home no matter its a different place. Hope that helped and that is the reason I think that's the sweetest passage in the chopin's collection of his genious pieces. :)

Her smile while playing is truely delightful
@NoferTrunions
@NoferTrunions 7 лет назад
I really like her and what she does. Yes, the smile is endearing, but I'd rather have her concentrating and focusing on what she is going - and that is exactly what happens when she gets to the difficult parts. So ... the showing of emotion IS "taking your eye off the ball."
@RBGTalk
@RBGTalk 7 лет назад
Not really. All the concentration and focusing should have been done already with practice. By the time you get to performing, your piece should already be so polished that you don't have to think anymore about it. So when you perform, you can relax a lot more and show much more emotion instead of focusing.
@retrogamerdave362
@retrogamerdave362 7 лет назад
Agreed. In fact, the practice of physically concealing your emotions comes from certain traditions of teaching and requires conscious effort to build the habit. Behavioral psychology demonstrates that showing the emotions through facial expression is natural and normal unless you are a psychopath. Although trained musicians may learn to conceal the emotions they experience to a degree, the microexpressions are still there. On the other hand, what Nofer Trunions may be referencing is the active upregulation of emotions displayed by pianists like Lang Lang. That is something else entirely!
@NoferTrunions
@NoferTrunions 7 лет назад
My method is entirely different. I have a narrative or story that contains the emotional content. The very best I can do is totally submerse myself in that alternate reality. It is pretty much out of body for me. If I try to animate anything, it detracts from this meditative state. Imagine someone reminiscing some great love or tragedy - you don't see ham acting when that happens naturally.
@RBGTalk
@RBGTalk 7 лет назад
I respect your opinion, but mine is different too. In my eyes, the primary concern is the enjoyment of the audience. And let's be honest, people are gonna enjoy a player who is more calm, relaxed, and joyful when they play more than a stoic and faceless player. But it also depends on what kind of piece you are playing. If it's a happy piece, then joyful expressions would be good. If it's a sad piece, then a more serious attitude would be more fitting. It's all about what you prioritize honestly. Either audience over you or you over audience.

She has a brain that different than the rest of us. Able to form neuroconnections very rapidly....instant recall.....synoptic nerves that fire extraordinarily rapidly.... right and left hemispheres that work so independently and yet work together flawlessly. And yet I think it's the love of the beauty of music that binds things together and makes her the female prodigy she seems to be.

A delightful and profound interpretation. Watching those elegant hands at work is one of the many aspects of her playing that keeps me coming back! As a critic once wrote many years ago about a pianist gifted with similarly beautiful hands: "The best pair of hands in the best pair of gloves!" (I do wish you would amp up the audio; it's far too weak. Also, the video should have continued long enough to show her take her bow and exit the stage. The abrupt conclusion and clipping of the applause and her reaction was awkward and unsettling. Respectfully.)

Is it just me or does every single pianist mess up the last two chords of this piece? The second to last chord is supposed to be played in a new measure, not the last chord with the high "f." Also, at 5:32, on the right hand, you're supposed to hold the last note of the top melody while playing the lower melody (both on right hand). She didn't do this... it was right in the sheet music.
