Bucks was coach to many of those players. They still love him, even though they wanted someone fresh and he was a bit harsh at times. They will always love him as their coach. He took those boys to a Grand Final.
@@Nathan-gd7xq Why? Would you like more special comments from me? I see no-one here has contested any of my points about this bloke being way over-rated as a player and coach, which ultimately cost our club dearly for so long. But it's not his fault, it was the club's fault for trying to conjure the fantasy of the 'FAVOURITE SON WINNING A CUP' when he wasn't capable of delivering either as a player or coach. Enough already, let's stop the ass-kissing and let the guy sail off into the world of self-reflection and learning how to be 'humble'

At the end of the day Bucks those of us that are Pies for life will never forget your contribution to our great club. I can't even image you not been welcomed in the club rooms ever. You will always be a Collingwood immortal, a true legend. Side by Side.
The Nick Daicos to Pendles, then running forward, impacts the next contest and gets the hands under pressure to DeGoey for the goal is one of the best bits of play I can ever recall. Massive for the moment (pies were behind), massive it was a GF. The kid has played less than 50 games and came back from an injury earlier than he should have to impact the biggest game of the season. Sensational
That was my favourite play of the game. Without Nick, we ain't winning. I was there for the 2002/3 losses to the Lions and interesting that Nick was born right in the middle of those 2 losses.
It's the sign of the man, he went in to the rooms and stayed out of the way and didn't want to take any shine away from the people that made it happen, a true legend, Go Bucks, Go Pies..🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
@@paulkyriakopoulos3444 spot on, militaristic coaching has been ineffective at the top end of success for many years, now. But then his dad was a military man, so he's not completely at fault for treating players like soldiers, rather than thinking and feeling human beings. Clearly, McRae tells us what style of coaching works. I followed the pies since the mid 60s, attended the grand finals in '81 and and '90, was at Victoria Park for every game, but then suddenly stopped following Collingwood when McGuire and this bloke took over all those years ago. I knew he wasn't the man for the job. I could sense he would most likely stifle the players under his autocratic leadership. I resented losing my interest and support for my beloved pies because I just couldn't get past my disgust in the club's desperate attempt at revering their 'champion' player by appointing him coach. As if he'd become the club's saviour (James Heard at Essendon, anybody?) Now I'm back and loving the club again, with or without premierships because the players are not afraid to express themselves under this McRae. They play within the system but are allowed to play with a great sense of abandon too because McRae and co. TRUST in them and their abilities. It takes a secure man to allow others to play their own game. Buckley didn't have the ego strength (balls) to let go of the reins for fear that others' mistakes would cause his 'image' and 'reputation' to fall away. How Ironic. Same problem with the narcissistic Kevin Rudd, who always over-rode his cabinet minsters' contributions in the Monday morning cabinet meetings and so eventually they formed a coup to get him out. So, autocracy failed again. Democratic leadership works in all facets of life. Think about how much you give back when your parent, boss, coach trusts and encourages you to do it your way? Not rocket science for some

Such great insights from Bucks and a very detailed and technical description of how the play has transpired, which for most of us would not even have thought of just by watching the game. And Tom is just interrupting with silly questions.

Being a former coach and player of Collingwood and a player of Brisbane , Bucks overview and analysis of G.F. hit the mark. I think Collingwood's use of quick handballs and Collingwood's ability to control the tempo unsettled Brisbane, as Bucks mentioned. When looking at converting goals on the siren this was a telling factor for Collingwood's win 18pts. This also enabled Collingwood to maintain their momentum. Brisbane , the footy gods weren't with you in 2023, but you will have your day of reckoning. One thing that Bucks didn't mentioned was Collingwood losing to the Eagles in 2018. Amazingly Collingwood lost by 4 points in 2018 , and they won by the same margin in 2023. I thought Nathan Cox in did exceptionally well in the ruck. This is an area that Brisbane usually capitalise on. His knocks forward in the last quarter enabled Collingwood midfielders to obtain possession.
A little nitpick: Collingwood lost by 5 points in 2018. 11.13 (79) to 11.8 (74). Unfortunately the scoreline is seared into my memory and probably always will be. 😢 Still stings. But a little less now.
@@Tikfaethen one kick away from premiership in 18 one kick away from grand final in 19 before it fell apart. I said apart of it not the reason for it. You’re correct in saying Buckley had a certain mindset as many pies fans had the same. Bucks last year and pies fans like myself didn’t couldn’t see why they were getting mcstay which made us all look totally ignorant. So yes mcrae and the fresh minds have gotten this premiership cup. We can still thank the man who helped build the pies from 2013 back into contention and who developed key players
@@xx_jeff_xx5555 I'm sorry for being a hard judge, but one kick away is not even a prelim. much less a premiership. He had 10 years and McRae's had two. Apportion some of the credit to Buck's list, sure. Too many variables here to compare coaches teams and how and when they were formed, so just look at how much fun this crop has while training, warming up before a game, coming onto the ground, and most importantly, playing. And then notice the soaring gusto with which they sing the club song. This is not by chance. This is by design. Respect and dignify human beings and they'll return the favour with interest. McRae was a talented footballer, and seems to be a sound football technician, but above all, he's an emotionally and socially intelligent human being who knows where the gold is. It's not in stats and footyisms like 'inside 50s' and the 'fat side' of the ground blah blah blah that you would hear in Buckley's press conferences, it's in the human spirit
@@Tikfaethen bro you are correct 100%. Bunkley was a poor man manager. Example the day he finger punched wittsy and almost destroyed his career. But Collingwood supporters forget . Bottom line thanks to Collingwood administration for getting macrae and Wright at the club.
@@xx_jeff_xx5555 dude that I hear a lot one kick . But 5 goals up and playing negative footy that's what cost Collingwood 2018 prem . Bottom line bunkley was a bland negative coach.
Respect for Bucks and his Collingwood heart. Only criticism I had was after 2010 win I would have waited another year to allow Malthouse go back to back irregardless of contractual agreements. In his tenure as coach my main gut wrenching criticism was when the team was on a roll it seemed they didn’t have the coach’s permission to play on instinct and continue attacking but had them going sideways and backwards. Anyway that’s how I felt at the time.
Yes, spot on. Buckley hijacked the club with his mate McGuire and they did it far too early if they needed to do it at all. And Buckley was too insecure to lose, which is the reason he stifled their forward play. Critical thinkers would have been able to see what he was doing without the need to compare him with MaCrae's style. NOW anybody can see what Buckley was doing and if they're honest with themself they'll rue the day he stepped into the role because of the wastage he caused. Instead, our sheep on here continue to revere the 'Legend' Nauseating. I couldn't tolerate Malthouse's premature exit in tenuous conditions and I couldn't bare Buckley's demeanour and coaching style even more, so I stopped watching the Pies for the first time in 45 years for the whole duration of his tenure. Good riddance figjam
Yes, same phenomenon with Steven Gerard at Liverpool. Except for the flukey Champions league win in 2005 and a couple of small cups, they WON NOTHING, including the hallowed premiership. When you over-revere a player, or coach as it were, it tends to sap other players' energy levels and so the 'team' output drops. We needed at least 5 'Buckleys'to win anything, he was certainly never going to save the club on his own at any level, which is what gave me the shits about the club's decisions around his appointments
Very tough call. I disagree on a playing front. Pies were very close to a gun Lions side in 02 and Bucks won a Norm Smith. Pies were incredible that day and Bucks almost won it for us. He retired in 07 after a Prelim and we didn’t win until 2010 and Bucks was an assistant to Mick in 2010. He’s not as good a Coach as McRae but few are.
It shouldn't be forgotten many of the 2023 premiership stars, played their formative years under Bucks. Fly has done an amazing job but Bucks's contribution to the careers of the magpie players shouldn't be forgotten. #sidebyside 🖤🤍🖤🤍
Wonderful analysis by Bucks as much as he shys away from taking credit he was part of the journey .. the scenes of him leaving MCG mobbed by our faithful is testimony of how loved is Bucks
After the Richmond system of 2017 came out. Which was just the Essendon system from 2000. Everyone who didn't adapt and copy it fell by the wayside. Bucks team didn't adapt so he paid the price. Its not to say that cannot change in the future. Take Ross Lyon. He obviously spent a long time observing the game before coming back into it again.
If true, there may be two reasons for their failure to adapt. Either because Buckley didn't have the proper system or because the players didn't like his militaristic execution style. Me, I always believed that the players didn't like his punitive demeanour and communication style but who would ever stand up to the 'great' Bucks, except for Jolly and Co. in the earlier years? If the latest crop of players were able to form a coup to get him out, they would have I'm sure. I Know I stopped following the Pies because of him and I only jumped back on the wagon once he'd gone. A 10-year hiatus, unfortunately, after following the club since the mid 60s

i loved you bucks but you didn't quite connect as well with the players as much as what craig mcrae does & in the losing grand final in 2018 in that season i don't know why you didn't adopt a similar play the minutes type philosophy & doing that at training like what craig mcrae does & we would of beaten west coast in that grand final & you're game style wasn't always as direct as a coach as how craig mcrae sets it up & plays a more attacking brand of footy where as it wasn't always attacking under your game plan but i still have a lot of admiration & respect for you cos' there were certain elements that had to be put into place before you vacated the coaching job that you helped set up & made it a lot more easier transition especially for craig mcrae when he was coming into the club & taking control of the football club as the senior coach & you laid the stepping stones the foundation blocks that would ultimately help us to move forward & transition forward as a club to succeed a lot quicker time than what it would of normally of taken so thank you for getting things set up well at the end of your last year as coach in season 2021 much appreciate that mate. we have seen how craig has transformed the club & how he has transformed the players. the players did love you bucks in your time but in 2021 i felt like you had potentially ran your race as coach & the team went down to second last so when the call came & you finally stepped down i think it was the right decision & robert harvey did ok to fill in to the seasons end & stem the bleeding some what the fact we didn't get the wooden spoon that season happy for that. i felt like when craig mcrae came in it was a breath of fresh air & sometimes you need that at a footy club a new set of eyes a new approach a new way or style of doing things & mcrae's positive philosophy his winners only mentality ethos & how he has got the boys playing credit to him to the coaching staff in justin leppitsch brendan bolton steve sellwood jarrod wade & co. who have been awesome in the roles they have played too. i am over the moon about us winning our 16th premiership collingwood fc it's almost the same joy as when someone has a baby cos' it's the birth of something that takes a lot of putting in of hardwork & dedication & perseverance & in the end they get the ultimate reward. i am sure you are very happy too. all the very best always to you this is " the matt schwab " btw & im just as much involved in following the boys the coach & the club as i have ever been. i started forty yrs ago in 1983 a member since 2010. thirteen yrs later if they said we were gonna be premiers again i'dd say i'dd take that but i couldn't of ever imagined just how much of an impact craig mcrae would have on our players & our club & he has absolutely amazing. sweet 16 baby & maybe 17 next year. once again more blessings to you mate & all the very best always & go the pies !
Speers is the worst at interrupting, followed by Morris a close second, I hate it when someone keeps cutting in when the person who is giving their summary of the game is speaking, very annoying, let them speak.......
Agreed. Because McRae and co. have players believing in themselves and each other and keeps them mindful that they are at one with the coaching staff. One in, all in. No judgement, no panic, no punishment, and no severe constraints when the chips are down. Just stay focused on the system and play your own game, boys!
nah, poetic justice. just like the pies were always a few players light when losing so many grand finals over the years. they may have looked like they were up for it by reaching the finals, but they weren't actually. Just like Buckley's earliest reputation that he was a gun and would help the pies lift the cup, he turned out to be a few bits short as both a player and coach to get a hand on the cups but it wasn't his fault, it was the sycophants' fault for blowing smoke up his ass for so long (and he duly milked it to no end and sadly for no end result)
Key takeaways: Collingwood won by 4 points because they played on their home ground in front of their ho.e fans and had favourable umpiring, not because they were the better team. AFL is not a national game, it's a Victorian game which is 15 of the last 17 grand finals have been won by VFL teams and there has been no report conducted into fairness as their was in 2007. VFL needed Pies to win to sell more merchandise, there was only evee going to be 1 outcome.
Collingwood played at a temperature that favoured Brisbane. Brisbane had beaten Collingwood several times, home & away. By Fagan's own admission, Collingwood deserved to win as they had more scoring shots. Hopefully we'll meet again in harsh weather conditions so Collingwood can beat them convincingly next time.
Bunkley was never a good coach. Collingwood administration made the right call to get rid of him . Macrae leppa Bolton the three made this club play entertaining footy unlike before with blankhead. Anyway enjoy sweet sixteen lololololol.

@@nathanhall6121Haters gonna hate. Complex Buckley haters, best to leave these people alone they are complex individuals who know how good he is and can't stand him for it.
@@Truthbomb101. quite the assumption that we have to be complex haters. Some of us can read the play. He got an awful lot of revelry from the club and benefited in so many ways that I wonder how the club feels about their investment in him, now? The problem with clubs is that they feel they need a flag-bearer, and so often they desperately and mistakenly identify past popular players like him and James Heard and even Diego Maradona to fill the post as the next coach... and without a sound apprenticeship. But being a 'top player' doesn't necessarily translate to being a top coach. Buckley was not as an effective player as the hype would suggest and history proves he wasn't a successful coach either. And only two years later, we've lost a prelim by a kick and won the premiership. He sucked up so much adulation and money for no return. If I hate anything, I hate the fact that some people get an easy ride to deliver nothing. Think of the Kardashians. What's their talent? They deliver no satisfaction to the general public yet, they're so wealthy while genuinely talented others could be broke etc. Glad the club moved on and should've done it with him as a player, too. He played in straight lines with very little imagination. The Daicos boys are already better than him. This guy never got in and under, just demanded the ball at the fringes and booted it 55 metres. Very little damage to the opposition, thus over-rated by a mile
Pies finished 1 game clear on top of the ladder + best percentage. Pies won every final. In the Grand Final Pies had 9 more scoring shots and lead in nearly every key stat, Lions had 6 more free kicks. You can sook all you like, but you're delusional if you somehow think Pies don't deserve the Premiership.
@SilentHotdog28 Carlton finished 5th and had an 8 day break. So they should get 8 for finishing 5th lol? They wanted a Pies Blues Granny. Did everything they could to make that happen. Only 4 times since 1999 a team has had a 6 day break after a semi. 2012(Collingwood) 2018(Collingwood) 2016(Sydney) 2023(GWS). Pies finished 4th 2012 and 3rd in 2018. And in 2010 and 2011 when Pies finished 1st they had to play prelims with teams coming off a 7 day break. Clearly you don't know the history well if you think they gave GWS a 6 day break because they finished 7th. 20 out of 24 years there's been no advantage. And 2 out of the 4 years Collingwood was disadvantaged not once but twice! They weren't interested in helping Pies back then, that's the difference. But its an all loving Collingwood these days, this year was always theirs - set up by the AFL from the start.
One of the worst grand finals, little aggression, intensity, felt like they were playing a home and away match, the grand final has lost its aura in recent years. Players almost scared of each other and timid.
