Nathan Lane joined Kit Hoover and Scott Evans for “Access Daily” which is currently filming the show remotely amid the coronavirus pandemic. The actor looked back at his iconic film “Birdcage” and revealed that Robin Williams didn’t want to dress in drag for the role after recently finishing “Mrs. Doubtfire” so that’s how he ended up with the role. Nathan, who stars in “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” shared why he took such a different role playing a cop in the Showtime hit.

I was watching a David Bowie Show from like the 2000s. The 1st movie I thought of was Bird Cage. I felt like I had just watched that movie! Now that was a great movie👍.

One of my favorites was when Nathan and Robin had that little spat at the beginning where they went "It's like you know everything because you're a man and I know nothing because I'm a woman" "You're not a woman" "Oh, you bastard" It cracks me up every time.

I saw Nathan Lane in NYC many years ago. I never had the opportunity to meet him, but I was close enough to hear the interaction between he and those to whom he was speaking. He seemed so genuine, natural, kind, funny. I’m a fan.

It's Cole D'Isle au Man, or Cole of the Isle of Man, in France, where Armand's chateau is, Cold-e-man in Greece where Armand's work is, and finally the vulgar Coleman in Florida where Armand's home is, so actually, we don't know where we are until we hear our last name pronounced! Ahahahahahahaaaaa!

I was SO fortunate to see Nathan Lane on Broadway in A Funny Thing Happen On The Way To The Forum! He was filling in for Whoopi Goldberg the night I went, and I remember somebody’s cell phone went off, and he broke character to address it, and the entire crowd busted up laughing, and then he went right back to his scene. It was amazing and a moment I’ll never forget. :-)

The First Wives Club is one of a greatest movie I have seen. My husband and I took the kids to Disney on Amtrak and our car. Me and my daughter-watched this movie together and my daughter was 4 at time and now 27. Today, we still sing the song from First Wives Club at the end. That movie has lots of memories.❤️😘😂🤣🙏❤️❤️💯

I watch The Birdcage over and over. For me his funniest line is when Val tells him, It will like all be OK when you get back and he says, Back? Where am I going? Just the way he says it with his hand over his chest it kills me every time.

I love that line! There’s so many little gems of lines, i actually just watched it today( it’s free on RU-vid ) and I think it’s the part where agador is upset at Albert leaving and is buried in his shoulders and Albert tells him he’s leaving him his stereo( noo!) his red boots( I don wan em) and my wigs( whech whigz?)

OMG! 😂😂 BIRD CAGE!!! Is one of my “go to, feel good movies” I’ve literally seen more than 30 or 40 times. I always always laugh and find new favorite parts. I think the piano “I could have danced all night” scene is one of my favorites as well as Starina’s (Albert) meltdown at rehearsal, yelling try more gum” to the young dancer who is aggravating him. Apparently the gum chewing “helps him think” LOL 😂😂 classic!

Your character in the movie so real and so precious!! You nailed it!! And you had to have the last word (or sound) at the wedding in the church and at the end of the movie.
