I thought Felicia and Lulu's faces when Lucy offered to take the girls place was beautiful. You can tell how much it meant to Felicia that someone was willing to protect her daughter and how grateful Lulu was that Lucy tried to help them.
"They're mothers!" One of them is also a wife, and they are both sisters and daughters. Not to disparage parent-child relationships (I have three daughters, and lost my mother when I was very small), but there are even worse people to lose than your own mother. You can still grow whole from that, but the death of a spouse/child can _break_ you. Don't think "They're mothers" would pull at their heartstrings at that point.
