The field roast signature stadium dog is finally a vegan hot dog that could potentially fool a meat eater. Its a relatively new product I found it on Amazon whole foods and is my new go to for that nostalgic hot dog flavor I grew up eating Hebrew Nationals and I'm very happy with this new product

I used to love getting Nathans hotdogs at Coney Island. At $40 a pack for vegan Nathans I’ll stick to Field Roast Frankfurters for $4.97 at Walmart.

But field roasts don't taste like BEEF hot dogs I don't know it tastes like flour or something it don't taste like beef hot dogs the closest thing feels roast has that taste similar to BEEF hot dogs is there corn dogs that little meat inside the covering of the corn dogs that taste like beef but they're regular so-called hot dogs does not taste like beef hot dogs it tastes I don't know it doesn't taste right to me and I ended up throwing up the hot dog package because it does not taste like beef hot dogs so me personally I like something that can mimic beef and if Nathan's has nailed it 45 bucks is worth it because I've tried it all and none of the hot dogs on the market taste like beef

I'm so pumped to find these! My biggest issue is the softer texture of plant based hotdogs so that these are firmer, seems like a win for me... super curious to try.

That’s me too! I wish there was one that fell smack dap in the middle texturally speaking. Lightlife brand which I usually buy seem to get softer with cooking and Nathan’s seem to grow more firm.

Yes, I read the title. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Grew up on Nathan's beef hot dogs, so I am excited to see your reactions to the plant-based hot dogs. And yes, Nathan's originated in Brooklyn, NY (Coney Island). So was my beloved Entenmann's, established in Brooklyn, NY (Flatbush).

Nathan’s hot dogs are firm as are most hot dogs. I’m not vegan.but my favorite plant based hot dog (Light Life smart dog) is way too soft in my opinion. I would definitely enjoy this one. Thanks for the review!

The Worthington "Big Franks" are a staple for vegan Frank's. The taste and consistency is very close to real meat Frank's. Since I am an anyterian I enjoy both meat and vegan options. And as an Adventist you have to be proficient in both since lots of church friends are vegan and need both options for after church/ family style potlucks. I got mine in Maryland at the big book and Bible house (Living Well store in Silver spring MD) a great location for vegan and vegetarian foods)

I’ve only been vegan for 10 months so I do remember the firmness of a real hot dog. A good quality beef hotdog DOES have a firm-like bite. The first time I tried the other vegan hotdogs my thought was that they were too soft. In fact to a point where it was a little offputting. I’m actually excited to try this because you said it has more of a firmness to it. I followed your link and bought two packages! Thanks for the awesome review.

Thank you for sharing this. I had no idea there was a Nathan's vegan dog and I have been missing Nathan's, my absolute favorite of all time hot dog. Will be on the lookout to try these. Appreciate your sharing!!. Darn, was willing to pay the $40 for a pk of 12, but the additional $15 for shipping was a no go. That would make them over $50/pkg. Hopefully I can find them in the store to avoid shipping.

Before I was vegan I have had Nathan’s. They are suppose to have that snap. I remember them being firm. I don’t know if that helps. I’m excited to try them.

That price is a hard no for me. All the vegan hotdogs I have tried were good so I wasn't looking for a new one. I won't be going out of my way for these.

The thing that upsets me the most about this pricing is that they'll stop selling the dogs and say, "there just wasn't enough demand for the product." Hot dogs are supposed to be a flavorful, easy, budget-friendly option, so that price is insulting. Growing up with very busy working parents and a tight grocery budget, boxed Mac and cheese and hot dogs were staples (and of course they are not healthy options, but when the choice is eat unhealthy or don't eat, my parents chose to feed us, but I digress). Sorry to get so heated about this; I know that vegan products often cost a bit more than non-vegan, but 10x as much is unacceptable.

I completely agree. I'll stick with the lightlife hotdogs. They're like $3 for 8 of them. They're not the greatest things on earth, but they're not that much different from what I remember cheap hot dogs being anyway.

K. The only way to do a fair taste test on a hot dog is to warm them in hot water put them in a steamed poppyseed bun. Chicago style. No other way. But if the package said skillet, must be a meatless thang. When I eat plant based meat products, I never expect them to have the texture of meat. I enjoy plant based for what it is. It’s better to not expect it to taste like meat because it won’t. But enjoy it for what it is.

I will have to try this, before I went vegan earlier this year. I love a Nathan's hotdog. I miss the firmer texture of a hotdog verses the vegan ones that I have tried lately. The vegan hotdogs are softer and I don't like that. But I don't need a combo pack either for $45 😱

Have you guys tried the Morning star corndogs? They say veggie dogs but I cannot find any animal products in them. They are really good. I think they get the texture pretty darn close without being as dense as the field roast dogs.

So Morningstar is so strange, their veggie dogs (just the dogs) are NOT vegan, but their corn dogs are vegan and they are amazing. The hot dogs would likely be in the top 3. I hope they eventually make just them

Try boiling them. I like boiling the field roast frankfurters and steaming the bun. The water adds juiciness and the hot dog is softer.

Hey why do you think lot's of places offer vegan meats but not vegan bread? I'm just kinda wondering becuz I bake bread and it's so easily vegan and just as delicious if not more. Bread is generally vegan anyway unless you purposely set out to 'un'veganize it,right?

It's so ridiculously easy to make bread "vegan" friendly and yes, most bread is just naturally vegan. Our honest opinion - we think many brands are trying to profit off the vegan movement (and we are happy they are), but they're goal is the plant based/flexatarian audience and not necessarily vegans. Not saying this is why Nathan's is doing, just something we've discussed.

If we are going to be realistic here the non-vegan Nathan hotdogs are cheap because of subsidies. The bad thing about manufacturers producing plant-based meat products is that there are absolutely no subsidies to help bring the cost down. So this might be a more realistic true cost for a hotdog

@@MakeItDairyFree $8.54 for 3 day shipping was the cheapest rate for me. Not awful, but $40 for a dozen? Why??? I loved Nathan's before I went vegan 😥

I hate the idea of a carrot dog. It is like having a sandwich with only salad ingredients. I never understood the concept.

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to make a vegan hot dog and not package it with vegan buns. To me, it would have been a better marketing plan to have both vegan items.

@Candace Johnson, EXACTLY. Burger King offers the Impossible Whopper with regular cheese on regular Whopper buns. So why do these companies even bother...

Most of the plant based hot dogs are slimy on the outside. I just rinse them off before cooking. Try sauteing them in Water for minute and then go ahead with your cooking, IE in the skillet with a little oil or on the grill . remember this is not real meat and it needs help to stay moist.

Thanks for the video. I would never buy those hotdogs because of the outrageous price alone. I'm tired of companies doubling and tripling prices for vegan versions of everything. It's time subsidies ended for big agriculture too. Then the public eating standard fare would carry some of the burden of true food costs rather than throwing it on the shoulders of those with more specialized (yet more eco friendly) diets.
