Since our area had an unusually dry and warm winter, we decided not to have an intensive sugarbush this year. But! We wanted to make sure our staff got to experience the culturally important and super fun activities associated with tapping trees for sap.
Not only did we tap a couple of sugar maples, but we also tapped boxelder maples and black walnut trees! The flavor comparison was amazing, and we learned how to identify all of these trees during the winter.
We were super lucky to have Luke Black Elk (Farm Director at Makoce Ikikcupi) along to teach us about some of the other plants in the area. Wopila Luke! We’d also like to send a shout out to Teresa and Jake Bentz of Get Bentz Farm - wopida for having us again!
