I have never heard of that verse! I thought that the second was 'O lord our God arise' and the third 'Thy choicest gifts on store on her be pleased to pour'.

God Save the Queen has officially 6 verses, although the first is normally sung.

You are quite correct the British Monarch never sings our national anthem, never bows or curtsies to another head of state and another head of state must never turn his/her back on the Monarch.

It's for exactly the same reason as when nobody sings "Happy birthday to me" on their birthday. If the song is about you, you are just supposed to shut up and listen!😄
