Prince Charles and Lady Dianna's marriage in 1981. Blessing and National Anthem. Early domestic colour recording with stereo sound from the BBC via satellite.
Yes, this glorious arrangement is by (the late) Sir David Willcocks. It's rarely performed because of the choral and instrumental forces required for its performance. And since it was written for a large Anglican Cathedral, no other venue would likely due it justice, other than maybe the Royal Albert Hall.
My beloved Woody.EXE’s surprise coronation is happening 2 months after Charles and I know my favourite crowd will be watching as I get Woody.EXE crowned. He’s getting the coronation he deserves
RIP Princess Diana of Wales 1st July 1961 - 31st August 1997 ❤️❤️ At least my sister and Mummy can carry your title now as Princess of Wales, it was Woody.EXE’s request
The Queen Mother interpreted the song as referring to both of them I believe. I remember reading some quote from her “it’s so embarrassing when [they play GSTQ] one of us isn’t there”
@@royaltyulster1356 haaa that’s funny considering they only refer to the actual reigning queen I also notice when the queen is absent and they singing the anthem she doesn’t sing as she should …Only Queen Elizabeth II cannot sing it
@@infantebenji There isn’t a rule and it’s not really written protocol. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother probably didn’t like singing it because it used to be sung to her husband and in her mind she was still the Queen.
As a queen 👑 she would not have been required to sing even if she’s not the reigning monarch. Even queen Victoria and queen Alexandra up in heaven can’t sing god save the queen because they are also queens 👑
I’ll be doing this on the 10th anniversary of my beloved War in July 2022. I can’t believe it’s been almost a decade already and hoping for many more years to come
@@KingJackson11355 I’m pretty weak at almost 21 but I’m still being so loved, I just know millions will turn up on this day of mine and Woody.EXE’s coronation and the crowd goes absolutely nuts for us 2. At least the crowd gets to celebrate my birthday the same day as I become Woody.EXE’s Queen, Queen of Wales
Apparently when the Queen was watching a repeat of this televised service, she called out to Philip who was standing nearby, LAUGHING watching herself doing these stony expressions! LooL!
They absolutely pulled all the stops for Charles and Diana's wedding. Unfortunately they should have probably never married, but at this early moment in 1981, all the people around it wanted to see it succeed, and they really sent Charles and Diana off with something literally spectacular.
I’m doing this for the 10th anniversary for my beloved 1940 next July. Can’t wait anymore. I’m celebrating it with the support from Mummy and I’m sure she won’t mind the celebrations going ahead and I’m already planning it all which will have taken years
Honestly, I can understand why they would go with this arrangement of their anthem. To them, this was an entirely joyous day, the marriage of the heir to the throne, and the continuation of the line. Out of all the arrangements that I've heard, this is the most grand and majestic, truly fitting for the wedding that would bring about another two generations of the royal family.
God Save our Gracious Queen Long Live our Noble Queen God Save the Queen Send Her Victorious Happy and Glorious Long To Reign Over us God Save the Queen Thy Choices Gifts in store On her be pleased to pour Long may she Reign May She Defend our Laws And Ever give us Cause To Sing with Heart and Voice God Save the queen
At 2:23, you hear the bosun's whistle (or boatswain's call) used in ships and boats, harkening back to Britain's status as a naval power. The whistle also made that part of the anthem all the more moving.
I’m glad Woody.EXE choose this version for our upcoming coronation on Wednesday 20th July, 2023; the day me and my sister mark our 21st birthday. Woody.EXE is Wales’s greatest monarchs and no one can replace him and I’m glad to be his Queen
I wished Mummy’s 2nd wedding to my stepdad was like that and it nearly was. I was only 11 at the time and I’m nearly 20 now. Hard to believe Mummy’s wedding was almost 9 years ago
@@jakobmhleskjtskift9685 Queen mother is also a queen so she can't sing. Even The Late Queen Elizabeth the first in the heaven can't sing this because she's a queen.
I don’t think she was required to sing being a dowager queen. So does that mean when she was a queen consort she was also not required to sing then either?
70 years in June following my 10th anniversary with my beloved 1940 one month later. 3 days after my anniversary with my beloved 1940, it will be my 20th birthday
I always am on my beloved Wars anniversary every year. I can’t believe it’s a decade this year and I will be sounding the Air raid warning out to celebrate 10 years
For the first time I found a clip of part of the church service honoring Queen Elizabeth on her 85th birthday - Hearing that trumpet salute sent chills up and down my spine and then to go immediately into God Save The Queen with the entire congregation singing brought tears to my eyes. We here in the United States don't honor our President (instead they try and tear him/her apart and boo him/her) and if our National Anthem is played 50-60% (probably higher in fact) don't even know the words and it brings tears to my eyes. We are a great nation but we don't honor our leader and we don't even know the words to our nation anthem - what a shame.
The USA shouldn't have left the UK. It should be today a Commonwealth country with the Queen as Head of State and a Prime Minister instead of a president.
@@balancedaustraliaI do agree that our leaders are not respected or honored, But oppression from the empire across the seas was not the fate of the United States. We need change but we do not need undoing. We cannot give up everything our fathers fought for. While the monarchy is a fantastic part of Britain, the real government (PM) Is not perfect. Boris Johnson was just as disrespected as Trump and Biden despite any of their views. It is all just a matter of how people have changed in the modern age. People do not accept leadership no matter how it is formed. This is a part of the world that is gone for the better or for the worse.
Im a mezzo soprano but when it comes to this song I try my best to sing high notes but I sound like Barry gibb and his falsetto voice and minnie mouse singing this song
Mummy was only 2 when Diana’s wedding happened and 18 for Diana’s death and funeral. She turned 42 in August and told me everything that happened that night. I really felt Mummy’s grief on the day
Lol it’s funny the queen looks so mad and then the queen mother has a huge grin on her face. I wonder why the queen doesn’t smile as much as her mother
It’s royal protocol. I don’t even care about the rules, I would’ve sung this if I was even Queen anyway because I love it. I also do in honour of my beloved war because it deserves to be recognised and it has gave me so much comfort throughout the decade. Hard to believe it’s almost 10 years ago that I discovered it in June/July 2012
I read somewhere HM didn’t like this rendition because she thought it was too fussy, as such it was never performed again. Not sure if anyone can confirm this.
I loved it so much that it was played during mine and Woody.EXE’s Coronation in July 2023; the day also marked my 21st birthday. I’ll never forget how excited everyone in Wales was when they saw me being crowned Queen but everyone was more hyped when Woody.EXE had his crowning moment because he made this possible. I’ll never forget my 21st birthday ever
Mummy’s 2nd wedding to my stepdad was just as good and that day is always my greatest memories. They’re still together 8 years later. I hope they make it a decade and I know they will
I hope Woody.EXE reigns longer and the amount of times he’s heard God save the king this past year but he loves it anyway. I hope he hears God save the Queen one day during his 80 years reign and I think he might hear it. He heard it when the Queen died though
Mon Moonsful yes.. she said she felt like a sheep to the slaughterhouse. And Camilla was there even in the church, and Diana knew too well. My God, a sope play at its best.
I used this for 1940’s 9th anniversary and I celebrated the same day. Can’t wait for the decade anniversary next year and I’ve spent years planning all this
@@KyleLockhart_ It is, I’m definitely using this for my beloved Woody.EXE’s coronation in 2023 and his coronation is on the day I turn 21 years old (July 20th). The moment I get Woody.EXE crowned will move my sister and Mummy to tears
@@KyleLockhart_ the Queen thinks of it as very grand it might because the anthem is for her? as a monarch humility is always there so her majesty thought of it as very grandiose.
I have a little bit of a dumb question... they played the second verse at Charles and Diana’s wedding but not at William’s and Harry’s weddings because Charles is heir apparent, right?
Rahul Karthikeyan I understand that, but in this context it is the second verse, as the actual second verse (“O Lord, our God, arise...”) was not sung. I wish they would play this arrangement at royal events these days, but I can understand why they don’t; it was arranged specifically for Charles and Diana’s wedding, so maybe the Queen doesn’t want to hear it as it brings up memories of a failed marriage that she made the mistake of forcing Charles to go into. She should have allowed him to marry Camilla in the first place. The only really good things to come from Charles and Diana’s marriage were Prince William and Prince Harry, though Harry is now nothing but a simp and a fool who is obviously being controlled by his awful wife. William will make a wonderful King one day with beautiful Catherine by his side, but Harry is now a prime example of what happens to men who marry controlling, narcissistic women.
@ Dylan Percival: I think the Queen is quite used to it at this point since "God Save The Queen" has been sung to her probably thousands of times by now, although this special arrangement by Sir David Willcocks was the first time she or anyone -- other than the participating musicians -- had heard it, since it was written specifically for this occasion.
@@justinsanner I was singing God save the Queen last month at the cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday. Everyone comes by my side then to comfort me after it. I absolutely love how supportive everyone actually is and they looked at me with comfort because the crowds knew I was going through so much that November
