Good to see one done in GDP%age. Nice to see that the countries chiled out more in the 2000s. There is simply no reason to go above green. (Looking at you, Saudi...)

Percentage of GDP for military spending makes everything much clearer. You can see how US percentage of GDP for military dove down after Vietnam War + Jimmy Carter Presidency and then went back up during Reagan but not at the level of Vietnam War era. And then it dives down to its lowest in the 90s after collapse of Soviet Union and then goes back up a little after 9/11 but then goes back down in the mid to late 2000s onwards. And now it's gone up and is gonna continue to go back up because of Sino-American Cold War and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

It would have helped for Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan to be real countries, not created by somebody else. WW1 ended, the Ottoman Empire collapsed, the British and French got the claims so then we got Iraq and Syria respectively. Ironically, America's liberation of Iraq gave them democracy for the first time, they had never had it before. In its >5000 year history, Iraq is probably the safest and quietest it has ever been.

I noticed that the statistics are from 1949-2020, and 1949 is when the People's Republic of China was founded, so I guess the main character of this video is China.I am a Chinese, so I visited our government website directly to try to check the accuracy of the data. Since the information and the section where it is located is completely hidden in the English version website, I don't think my government wants foreigners to analyze and study the information, so I won't share the link (it's only written in Chinese, so I guess no one but the CIA wants to access it) I will simply describe some errors that are significant and don't require data proof. Here's the thing, the highest percentage of military spending as a percentage of GDP in the People's Republic of China (excluding data on the ROC government and its occupied areas) was when it was first established, when China was only in ruins and had a very low GDP, while still fighting the civil war and the Korean War, so despite the small absolute value of military spending it was a very high percentage of GDP. After China began to develop normally, the ratio of military spending to GDP started to decline. Sometimes things like the Great Leap Forward, the Three Year Natural Disaster, and the Cultural Revolution would cause the economy to deteriorate and the ratio of military spending to GDP would rise. But China's military spending as a percentage of GDP has never exceeded 10%. In 1978, China implemented the "reform and opening up" policy, and in order to develop the economy, the military was massively reduced, and the military expenditure became very low, from here on your data can reflect the real situation.Especially in 1985, Deng Xiaoping proposed that "the army should be patient" and reduced military spending to an unbelievable level, knowing that our relationship with the Soviet Union was very bad and could go to war at any time, which was a very dangerous move. How poor was the Chinese army? Soldiers had to plant their own vegetables and raise pigs to fill their stomachs, military factories started producing civilian products to make money, and Chinese soldiers were paid so little that they couldn't even find girlfriends. The free economy was a beast and if the military started doing business corruption would inevitably occur. The central government permanently banned the military from doing business in 1997, while compensating by raising some military spending. Anyway the sacrifices of the Chinese army were exchanged for rapid economic development and China's GDP became the second in the world. If someone tells you that money can't buy everything then they must not have any money, China's military is back to the world average as a percentage of DGP spending and has the world's most advanced weaponry overnight, when the US realized things were wrong it was too late. Now we have to start paying off the debt we owe to the Chinese military.

Thanks to DeepL translator for helping me translate these. This translator in probably the best Chinese and English translation software available. Here are some of my personal opinions. It is often said that the United States would be doing very well if it could save its military spending to develop its own country, but that is not how things work. The United States cannot maintain the world order he has set for himself if he does not have a navy that can intimidate the world. The United States has gained countless benefits from the world order he has established, and the United States would not necessarily be better off if it gave up its world hegemony. China became very vulnerable when it cut military spending, without the backing of military power, Chinese diplomats were under so much pressure that the Americans crashed our planes, hijacked our cargo ships, bombed our embassies and all we could do was condemn and the Americans would say sorry and then laugh. Even so China still has to buy US treasury debt to help the US through the economic crisis, but the Americans will not say thank you, they will say China is manipulating the exchange rate. They are now saying that China is spending too much money on its military to start a world war.

According to China's official caliber, my country's military expenditure accounts for about 1.4% of GDP. I don't know where this 1.75% figure comes from. But no matter which data, I think China's defense budget should be maintained at the same level as the United States. At least higher than Germany and Japan, the defeated countries of World War II

Iran spends less but it’s because they pay their troops less and buy cheaper equipment. They actually have a larger military and more land armored equipment than KSA, KSA is more air and ballistics focused which costs more to maintain. Also Iran tends to use asymmetric combat strategies and political capture to achieve its goals, which is low cost but incredibly effective for power projection.
