National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholar Dental School Recipient || FutureDDS 

Thé COSTEP Program with the US Public Health Service is another way to get your 3rd & 4 th year paid for and a stipend during those two years. You also will be accruing time as a commissioned officer during your 3rd and 4th year. It’s also a great way to get experience with underserved community. Once commissioned you carry Navy rank. Dentists and Physicians enter active duty as O3( full lieutenants). I did my entire career Once commissioned. It was a great way to see the country thru many assignments with many different federal agencies and the benefits upon retirement have been awesome!!!!

I applied for the scholarship this year, and my fingers are crossed for good news in September when we find out! From my understanding, we had all new essay questions this year (thanks to the student doctor network). Here they were for those interested: Essay Question 1: The mission of the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is to build healthy communities by supporting qualified health care providers dedicated to working in areas of the United States with limited access to care. With this mission, we know that patients often need health care providers to better understand them as a whole. This is particularly important among underserved populations receiving care. Please tell us what does patient-centered care mean to you and provide an example? • Essay Question 2: NHSC clinicians provide care to underserved communities in urban and rural areas with limited resources. Please provide an example of when you have proposed an innovative solution to a challenging problem where you had limited resources? • Essay Question 3: Describe an experience in which you have contributed to the wellbeing of an underserved community and the impact/result of your contribution? As you can see, volunteering with underserved communities in your undergraduate years is very important if you want to apply! You also need someone to write you a letter than can attest to your passions in serving underserved populations. (one academic letter and one non-academic letter- could be anyone!) Above all, they want to reward applicants that are going to continue working in medically underserved areas even after their years are paid back. It's really a win-win for those dedicated to helping those that need it most!

You guys at FutureDDS are awesome. Through the whole application journey whenever I have had a question I say "man someone should put up a how to video on this on the youtube university" but then I search for what I am looking for and you guys already have it. Love it!!! I love knowing I am going into a field with competent awesome people like yourselves. keep up the good work!!!
