We celebrate National Horse Protection Day, which was founded in 2005 to bring attention to cruelty towards these beautiful animals. Expresso met up with two charities making a real difference in the Western Cape. Firstly, the Cart Horse Protection Association which protects working cart horses from abuse, and contributes to the social upliftment of the Cape Flats carting community. Secondly, The Dassenberg Horse Rescue Centre, who have rescued and rehabilitated countless horses that would have been condemned to brutal and pointless deaths.
