August 31st is National Overdose Awareness Day, and although every day feels like this for us, we cannot stress enough how much awareness is needed. To be frank, people need to wake up and stop turning a blind eye to the drastic number of deaths we encounter each and every year. It's often dismissed and disregarded until it hits someone personally and they lose a loved one. We pray that never happens to you, but we also pray for your support without having to feel that loss.
The latest CDC report shows 109,940 predicted overdose deaths in the 12-month period ending in February 2023. Most of these deaths are caused by illicit synthetic drugs like clandestinely manufactured fentanyl and methamphetamine, often in combination with other drugs, including cocaine and heroin.
In 2023, it's no longer just the addict that's at risk of an overdose, but even the one time user that's gambling with their life.
We come to you today to show you the facts of this epidemic, to plead for your help, but also to show you a glimpse of why we do what we do.
Here at CHM we are not primarily concerned with making sure our addicts never use again. Our primary emphasis is sharing the gospel with a man so that he may, by Gods grace alone, save his life ETERNALLY RATHER THAN SIMPLY HERE ON THIS EARTH. This video was the very first interview we took of Corey McCarthy. He came to us with nothing and no hope, but he gained life and life eternal in Christ. His story is filled with grief and disappointment overdosing on May 30th, 2022, but it is also filled with so much hope. He left us with the assurance that we would see him once again because He knew our merciful Lord.
Though the flesh is strong and falling into sin is a constant battle for us all, our hope is not in living a sinless life, but that Christ lived a sinless life for us!!
So the difference between our message to you today from almost every other rehab is that ours is FULL OF HOPE. Not because we can personally save lives, but because God can and is saving lives!!
