My opinion what you are doing is correct. Again you need not pay any tax at the time of maturity of the NSC

DCB is a scheduled commercial bank, deposit upto Rs. 500,00.00 is insured with Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation. I am not sure about the financial health of this bank. They have only four branches in Kerala (Kochi, Kottayam, Trichur and Kozhikode)

The amount you deposited is eligible for deduction from total income under section 80C for the year in which you deposit the amount. For subsequent years up to maturity, you can claim each year the portion of accrued interest under section 80C as a deduction
