Kinda reminds me of the time i was trucking my 18-wheeler across Hiway-12 in Montana, and passing thru either the Crow or Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservations. Came across about a dozen cars stopped and blocking both lanes. Seems a range cow had wandered onto the road and been struck. Word was spread and people showed up with hatchets and axes, fillet and butcher knives, slicing and dicing commenced and what i thought would take an hour or more was accomplished in roughly 10 minutes. Cow was skinned, quartered and other than the echoes of a Moo and blood on the road, nothing was left to go to waste. Was told Elders would be given first cuts, then Widows with children, followed by Widows w/o children and last, the rest divided among Family members. Almost quicker than i could describe it, the cow was divided / loaded into car trunks and pickup beds and the road was back opened. Fast, efficient and best of all, no paperwork. You bet Jason! Glad it was worth your time. Would have been awesome to be a fly on the tipi wall back in those days.

How'd they hunt them before the horse?

Not nearly as effectively. I posted a video describing a buffalo jump, which was one method. However, it's disputed how widely used buffalo jumps were. There is also a George Catlin painting showing two hunters sneaking up dressed in wolf hides. This may have been another method. However it had been done, it certainly got easier with the acquisition of the horse.

I hear you! However, worth remembering it wasn't all tenderloins and hump ribs. There was certainly times of plenty, but they were offset by times where they ate candles and leather. Here is another video identifying some other foods they ate if you are interested. Thanks for checking out the channel! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QzFP10rdd34.html

Jesus Christ is going to bring back the millions of buffalo during HIS 1000 year Reign and gift them back to the native Americans. God is good!!! They are very healthy to eat.
