while breaking a horse you don't command the horse to walk forward and they asked the horse to stop when you just ask to walk forward. The first thing you should have done was be led around by another experienced person instead of right away asking the horse to move it's feet. Clearly you have no idea what you are doing. Your girth/cinch is way too loose, lucky the saddle didn't slide back to the horses flank and get crushed. The horse flipped out and started rearing because you emediatly yanked on the bit, therefore the horses first instinct was to rear
Sophie and Ava Johnston omg girl thank you so much for explaining to everybody that they have no idea what they are doing cuz absolutely nobody in the right mind would ever think that thats not horse/animal abuse thx sister
Porblem i see is the big leverage bit and keeping it tight on his mouth that is so much pain on any horses mouth starting off a horse just halter and riens you dont need a bit like that on any horse if they switched that i think they would be doing fine can do everything with training without pain bits
And he's holding him so tight with such a strong bit whilst kicking him to go like wtaf is that meant to communicate to the horse other than 'im gonna hurt you the whole time im on you until you buck me off' he's just teaching the horse to throw people off as that's the only way to get any release ;-;
whenever he was asking this horse to move, he wasn’t pulling on the bit. all he was doing was keeping him on a short rein for if he did buck again he’d be able to have more control in that situation.
Since the rest of the comments address pretty much everything else I'd like to point out they also put the horse in an ear twitch so that the guy could mount the poor babe. While a nose twitch has been shown to cause a horse to relax, so long as it's not used for more than 3-8 minutes(I forget the time stated in the report but it was between then) an ear twitch was shown to not only cause nerve damage to the horse but cause the animal to freeze out of pain and fear and was considered cruel to use for any length of time. It was also shown that horses remember the abuse and even after one use of less than a minute the horse became ear shy and was afraid to let anyone touch their ears. Do not use an ear twitch on your horse. Use sedation or a lip twitch for medical care if needed. If you're using it for training purposes you're moving way too fast if you need to employ such methods. The methods these people are using are clear abuse and should not be legal.
Poor horse. I spent months training my horse and building trust, simply creating bond and a relationship and after a long time using natural horsemanship, my horse just let me climb on her back and she had never been ridden before. I'm not saying that I did everything right but i know that trying to "break" a horse is horrible. Torturing a terrifying horse until it feels there is no choice but to give up is disgusting. No animal should be treated this way and if i was the horse, i could never trust thus human again.
Yall wanna complain how he does this horse. He getting ready for anything that could happen in the future. That's a war pony he's got. Anything could happen. Don't complain.
Ok I know that this is Native breaking, but could be done better! Also why are there other horses n the pen while breaking, pulling on the bit hard, and someone pulling on the rains?
Lance THORNE I agree with you but I’m just not trying to start anything, you are very right. But it could be there way if doing it, (I am also native but we don’t do this but maybe they could do it that way but it also is not right, and is abuse. Quite frankly they just ruined the horse
@Lance THORNE well this is native breaking at it's best specially navajo breaking this is how my uncle's break horses but they usually have another horse to prevent the horse from bucking
Everyone saying this is abuse, yet this is how our ancestors did it. Everyone has their own way of doing things ,these men can not take months like these you tubers do with a mustang .They have families to support I am sure of so they do this as fast and safe as possible for both them and the horse.
Just because it’s something our ancestors did doesn’t make it ok. Our ancestors did a lot of barbaric things. Yes there’s different ways of training horses but they do not need to use a massive shank bit to do it. The poor horse is clearly in pain and in distress
SItting Bull, Crazy Horse and so many great warriors would spank these boys, hard...Warriors worked in tune with nature and were men of reason and strength, and they would be using the best methods known today, %100 for the horse and relationship with the horse...Wisdom is true culture, get wise boys..
Bits don't hurt horses the hands using bits is what hurts horses if i put a bit in your mouth and yank and jerk yeah it would hurt but if i just be soft and not yank and jerk it wouldn't hurt.
For those of you that don’t know these horses in their corral are probably mustangs with means they did not grow up in captivity unlike your city horses the grew up drinking from bottles these horses were wild they have a tendency to give the trainer some shit the first few day some of you trainers from the city take a mustang and try and tame it your will quickly see how to do it
I never agreed with the “native way” of training horses. It’s not “cool” that you’re harming them and it’s not “cool” that you’re pushing them into something they’re not ready for. Animals need to be respected. Especially the animal you’re going to RIDE. Yadilah dii’giis.
omg i’m actually starting to get pissed off. I didn’t know that every single person here was suddenly a horse expert and gets to bash on this dude for how he chose to train HIS horse. i’m not sure if you just can’t read of if y’all didn’t read the title. this is NATIVE BREAKING. these people don’t do it easily. they don’t train like the rest of you who claim you know how to. in my opinion, i don’t like to try natural horsemanship with an aggressive horse. i’ve been training for a little while now and i’ve been exposed to all kinds of horses. some that are eager to please and excel in natural horsemanship and some who are bat shit crazy and all you really can do is show them who’s really boss. we don’t even know if this horse was aggressive with him before hand of this video. you guys are in no authoritative figure to tell this guy he’s an animal abuser and he should go to jail like are you actually serious. shut the hell up and maybe learn a thing or two about horses before you come telling someone something that’s entirely wrong.
Ataysia Allon it does make me angry too when people have dogs and they are commenting on horses to treat them like that and they haven't even ride a horse in there life.. .....dude some one please tell them its horse a hooorse
The only I really see wrong was pulling the reins extremely hard, he should really just ride it out and not ruin the horses mouth, only thing I really saw wrong
The horse is always boss! The person doing this is ruining the horse, you should never have to decide who is boss! The horse is the one that is 1200 pounds and is the one that is letting you get on its back and invade its personal space. When the horse is in pain or is uncomfortable since they cannot talk they will buck, rear, kick. Horses are NOT aggressive animals, it is the humans that do stupid things that terrify the animal and make it afraid of them, and then people want to go say that the animal is aggressive and needs to be put down. The horse is obviously in pain and is scared to death! It is disgusting that the people are laughing at this animal getting its face ripped off by a bit that is designed to be invasive and cause pain. The fact that you want to call this natural is retarded! None of this is natural, horses are supposed to be running in the plains and raising constantly not have 150 pounds strapped to its back and a metal thing shoved in its mouth. And just because it is called native breaking does not make it ok! if a child was being wiped and someone said "oh its ok it is our native breaking" the entire world would flip out. So actually You are the one that needs to do a little self-reflection and do research.
First of all there are a lot of things that were very wrong in the "training" of this horse this is not the correct way of training and I don't care if this is how he choose to train his horse if you don't know what your doing then don't try to do it your self. Its not a DIY project you can fix in a day. And when you tell a horse to go then tell him to stop that is one of the things that made the problem even bigger.
I’m native myself. In fact the same tribe as they seem to be, Navajo (I could be wrong) and we do not treat our horses this way. At least I don’t. This is straight abuse. In our tradition, you need to respect animals.
lilbunz thank you so much for replaying.. I got really upset about this video as I’m really interested in Native American culture and love how books portray their relationship with horses. Thank you for letting me know that this video is not truthful to your tradition 🥰
@@pinkfxwn1667 you probably dont treat you horse like this because it already trained being navajo too I can agree that I dont act this way around my broken horses
On the Indian reservation any free grazing horses are rounded up and taken to the slaughter house and ground into dog food for professional horse trainers dogs. This horse once he knows who's boss will have a long life being cared for... Furthermore if your so concern you should drive down there and show them your skills and tell them to their face how tough you are.
I can’t even watch a video about animals without somebody saying it’s abuse and the fact that half the people here claiming this is abuse has never rode a horse
I'm pretty sure anyone can see the massive leverage bit and the way hes constantly yanking and holding it so tight whilst kicking and whipping the poor horse to go forward, his mouth is gaping open to try and escape the pain, theres so much information on non abusive more effective ways to back horses, if you choose to be so willfully ignorant I pray you don't have any animals under your care
yall in the comments need to shut up you dont know the first thing when it comes to horses quit moaning and groaning over something you dont half way under stand
how does the horse have enough time to process what is happening? someone's stuck a piece of metal in its mouth and sat on its back tugging away at the metal
This is the lazy way of doing things. Instead of gradually training the horse to get used to have something on its back and building trust with the horse, you do this.
The lazy way would be to strap something to its back like a sack full of gravel Let it buck all it wants. The way the natives did it during the colonial era was to catch them with a rope choke em down and hobble the front legs and hop on. Then they'd beat the snot out them if they acted up.
@@pacenpeppers3744 yea everyone is different. Though your opinions today might not reflect the common reality 200 years ago. Im just saying folks in our past history were not always so nice to animals. These folks might be fairly tame compared to how their great great grandpa might have done it. When a fellas life depended on it and they had something to do or somewhere to be even today some folks take to the quick and dirty method of doing things instead of what seems nice or proper. And different cultures have different ideas of what's acceptable. Natives used to keep dogs as pets too. They would use them for hunting or whatever but almost every tribe kept them primarily for eating. Just like folks keep chickens today. People would think that's barbaric today but in china that's still a part of people's daily lives.
The reason she doesn’t want to move forward is because when she does she gets torn in her mouth. It is not positive for her when she moves forward so she is trying to protect herself in standing still. I understand the need to hold her back, but at some point you need to release her mouth even a bit so she calm into what is happening to her. Mongolian traditional horse breaking is something similar to this, where you just get on the horse and go together for as long as you can until the horse accepts the rider. But the difference is that the Mongolian way allows the horse to move forward more, so the horse can feel better connected to the rider, the rider stays on until the horse calms itself. Just horse and rider, no person with ropes etc. If the horse doesn’t calm with a rider holding on then the horse is set free to be wild. But if the horse eventually submits to the rider sticking to its back its kept and further trained... You will have problems with this horse because her will/spirit is not being respected.
It is not the fast horse breaking cause you want the horse to trust you be for you get on and he was pulling on the mouth when asking him to go forward therefore the horse does not know what to do but bolt
Brings back memories growing up on the Rez I loved it we would throw them down first then saddle up and get on and the people talking about this horse is going to be ruined obviously never rode a real broke Rez horse lol
I don't agree with bits see how he's biting on it try a bit less bridle the horse will respond better in it cus it works on my horse very well and he trusts me more
First ride can be uneventful if you do not use the ol' cowboy way of man handling the horse. I have heard that some Native American tribes are noted for gentling the horse not breaking them.
That is not a wild horse you broke him to saddle and bridle first and a wild horse you could not walk up to who do you think you fooling plus you are breaking a horse by white man's way Natives real natives do not break a horse they become one with the horse and it takes breathwork You are trying to fool someone maybe yourselves that is nowhere near Native Horse training
You guys are crazy I'm native this is how we do it and if you don't like it go somewhere else and watch my lil pony because you sure don't know how to train a horse right
I know how to train a horse right, and if you are putting a shank bit in a inexperienced horses mouth then beating the horse to go and then as soon as the horse takes a step you start yanking on the bit then YOU need to learn to train a horse right because this isn't right at all! This "training method" is a pure lack of knowledge and understanding
have seen people bust broncs in Texas plenty of times, but they would never do it like this. From the bit to the gear and how it's rigged to the method... I'm sure there is someone who would be willing to share some knowledge so these guys could be more successful (in person not via keyboard).
Erin Rodda they should've used a halter, these are inexperienced hobos. And if they use a bridle, at least a neck rope is better to hold onto then it's mouth.
They shouldn’t use a halter because they are trying to break the horse in a let it get used to it. They are doing such a crappy job but if they don’t put a bit in the horses mouth it wont be able to take one later on because it will be so new. Good to start early.
Good job guy's that how I break mine let'm know who boss. 😂😂 an for the people saying this is cruelty don't know shit about horses 😂😂 bet that horse is free roaming an is only used when needed not penned up his or her whole life.
Yeah you know sooo much about horse if you think it's appropriate to kick a horse hard to go and then violently pull back when the horse does go. There's no good job about this the horse didn't learn anything from this. Basically go go GO! Oh shit don't go, the horse learns that the rider is unsure of what he wants and in turn the horse becomes uninsured horse
KING LUCCI ur right they did a good job and if that's how u do it then I'm ok with that cus this is only the start after this he will be treated well and loved and the other people do know about horses but they have a different way of doing it ☺☺☺
KING LUCCI what?!?! No.....anyone in the right mind would never do that to a horse the horse is obviously giving signs to them saying "Stop, I dont like this, leave me alone." Amd yet they still continued riding a wild horse, and if that's how you break your horse/horses then your one.of the dumbest people I know, and if you think that's not animal abuse you obviously either 1:don't care about animals. Or 2:just simply not using your head. And for someone to just say that that's not animal abuse doesn't need any animals. I have been riding and training horses and people on horses from little 3 year olds to 40 something year old people and that's defiantly not the way to break ESPECIALLY A WILD HORSE.
Just foolish. Your pulling to hard on the horses mouth!! It’s making him not want to move because he knows it’s going to get yanked on. U should not break horses like that u idiots!!
Natives are the best horsemen they grow up riding they are horse people always have bin modern horse trainers are scared that's why they take so long to get on a colt fucking scared
Theirs a little town full of huge cattle ranches in new mexico called hernandez mostly spanierds they all still use this method and have rode since they could walk
