NATO member Poland says a Russian cruise missile briefly violated its airspace on Sunday morning. Warsaw summoned officials from the Russian embassy to demand an explanation.
Poland said the missile entered its territory as it was firing at targets in western Ukraine. The city of Lviv, close to the Polish border, came under heavy attack. Explosions also rocked the Ukrainian capital. Officials say air defenses shot down roughly a dozen missiles in and around Kyiv. Residents were told to remain in shelters.
Poland says it would have shot down the Russian missile that breached its airspace if there had been any indication that it was heading towards a target in Poland.

try to understand that our polish goverment changed several months ago and from mediocre goverment now we have no goverment, we have empty parlamet that the all poles are in rage. we pay taxes and now we have politicians that go for work 1 day and spend rest 6 days on holidays. its not about poland but goverment no matter what country shows middle finger on its citizens. i honestly dont need polish goverment, just make one earth goverment, draw historical borders and live as one humanity where none will have to worry about safity

The missile was flying in Poland for 39 sec and incurred up to 2 km. Given assumed speeds of missiles, it was vectored mostly parallel to the border. This is how targeting conclusions were made and no counter-measure was taken. Still, vigilance in that short time period is paramount because the missile could be following a deliberately misleading track.

Cruise missiles do not fly in a direct course towards the target but instead fly many curves to avoid the known air defense systems. The Russians use GLONAS for this purpose. Since they probably don't fly accurately, they flew a circle over Poland. That’s what I assume. Or it was on purpose 🤷🏻‍♂️

Nonsense…. So if a nation is attacked with missiles during an overcast night, it may not defend itself because it can’t visually confirm what the missiles are. You have no idea what you’re commenting. The radars could perfectly identify what it was. It was tracked way ahead. An inch into NATO airspace and you shoot it down. Poland is assisting Russia in this war when it allows Russian missiles targeting Ukrainians travel through its airspace! Besides portraying NATO as being weak. That just how it is. You’d think Russia would do noting if a NATO missile entered Kaliningrad airspace for 40 seconds?

@@JessicaSunlight As I wrote, you don't do such things if you can't see what it is. Ultimately, it was determined that this object did not pose a threat. This has already been explained in the public space by specialists. Moreover, with each increased activity of Russian aircraft, Polish and allied fighters are picked up, and yet this missile was not shot down. Shooting this missile would likely cause far more damage on the ground than bruised national egos. Apparently, it turned out that the rocket's flight trajectory is not a threat to the Polish side. Whether we like it or not, we have war on the eastern border and Belarus plus Russia in the north. This is due to the fact that we are subjected to pressure that most people who comment here have no idea about. In such cases, we must keep a cool head and hide our national ego - it will be better for us and our allies. And I repeat, we are not at war, which ties our hands in such situations.

Because they monitored the attacks and most likely have seen one of these missiles making a sharp turn. That's not "on purpose" and certainly if that happened purposely, Russia would cause a war they could simply not win.

@@engliterra355Russia can't win, if they need to send out tanks from the early Soviet Union era and still haven't even gotten a third of Ukraine's territory in 10 years. With the drone strikes hitting economically important facilities, the goal for Ukraine in Russia is to incite a revolt by all people. As soon as food prices skyrocket and even the middle class in Moscow notice the pain, they will go to the streets and at some point Putin would need to have a war against its own people, if he wants to stay in power. Therefore, no, Russia certainly did not win and probably will lose eventually. With all the brain drain and the sanctions, the loss of men and therefore the loss of opportunity to have babies in the country, they will economically suffer in the decades to come.

Within those 39 seconds, Polish air defense didn't have tine to acquire target acquisition in time before the missile crossed back into Ukrainian air space. If they fired, it could have missed altogether and fell into some populated area.

You are wrong, it was 39 seconds in polish air space but it was tracked way longer. You could conclude this from the video itself ...they tracked up to 12 objects most of them were not even close to the polish border.

They said they were tracking around 10 missiles flying towards Lviv and determined none of them targeting Polish land. So they just decided to let the missile do its job and hit Lviv LMAO. They were tracking it even inside Ukraine that's how they knew where it will hit so that means they were tracking it for a long time and 39 second is just the time spent inside Polish territory. LOL

A cruise missile travelling at 6,200 km/h violated airspace for 39 seconds and only travelled 1000-2000 meters? What do these guys take us for? Taking the speed of 6200 km/h, that would mean 1,700 m/s. So for 39 seconds, the missile would have travelled for more than 66km into the territory.

For those asking, 'Why wasn't the missile shot down?' from a military perspective, it would have been a bad idea because: 1- The fragments could have killed Polish citizens. 2- It could expose the frequencies of Poland's radars. 3- It might trigger a chain reaction from both Russian and Polish sides. 4- it's not always clear what is flying; therefore, shooting down an object in the sky, especially when Poland is not at war, would be an overreaction Escalating a situation like this to war is simply unwise

You forget that even if the air defense was capable, the defense missiles cost millions of dollars, and Poland not going to waste money on it. No mention in the video of what was the missile targets 😄 They targeted an airfield in the area which allegedly supposed to be used for the F16. So Poland better get used to it as many more will be coming in the future and unless Poland wants to spend valuable air defense missiles on them, nothing it can do about it.
