I had been cutting my own hair since Jr. High school. My hair was about an inch below my bra strap and I couldn't really trim it like I wanted to. I mad the mistake of going to a highly reputable stylist for a trim. When I left her shop my hair was halfway between my shoulders and my bra strap. I didn't have split ends or damage. I only needed a trim and she just chopped my hair off. Never again.
Same thing happened to me when I was 14. I have never trusted another stylist since then, I've learned so much by watching videos and do everything myself.
I think most hair stylist don't like the extra work it takes to do natural hair. I swear when they see my hair they cop and attitude and charge me double the Normal price. So I'm stuck with doing my own hair until I find someone that is gentle and caring and humble towards their clients.
Lol lol i died laughing when I read your post. Don't go to them, you don't want someone touching your hair who just cops an attitude as soon as they see your hair.
I can relate I have a natural hair stylist. I have been with her since 2005 her hair is also natural and she takes excellent care of my hair. I think stylist need to know about your hair and care for it in a caring manner.
Thank God I watched the video for myself. Because the comments had me thinking she cut the woman bald. She did a good job. And the client retained her length.
I'm not trimming my hair that often, absolutely not. If you handle your hair right you can go a long time without a trim. Also, whatever hair care you can do at home yourself just do it, use the hair dressers when needed but learn to do things for yourself. Don't become dependent on any stylist. During the lockdowns here in England I had to become my own personal hair dresser when the hair stylists were all closed. Yes I messed up my hair at times, but then I found RU-vid and started learning and teaching myself to do the things I needed to do for my hair whilst the world was going through a deadly crisis. Elite hair care, I admire you. But sis, we ain't all dumb dumbs, some of us can actually manage our own hair. I go to a stylist for some trims when my ends need special attention, but for basic dusting I do that myself with my own professional hair scissors. I deep condition myself also as it is less expensive and I do that most times before a trip to the salon. If I want a silk press I can do it myself, but sometimes I like going to the salon for that and for braids if i want my braids to be very neat as when I do them I can't part the hair at the back as neat as I want it sometimes. Some black hair dressers where I live are very unprofessional and they will mess up your hair and won't apologise. One gave me severe chemical burns years ago, I was going to a funeral and I asked for a texuriser but during the service I realised she actually gave me bone straight relaxed hair. When I questioned her about it, she told me if I don't like it to cut it off. The skin around my forehead was burnt off and I had to comb my hair over my forehead to hide the raw flesh for the funeral, at the end of the service the skin was healing and my hair got stuck in the raw wounds. My head was sore with open wounds all over my scalp from back to front and full of scabs. I was very hurt, I felt like a nobody that anybody can hurt and don't care. I asked why is it this is allowed in a country with so many safety laws. Next time if that happens again I'm taking the stylist to court or I'm getting arrested for beating a bitch. I promise you. Black people have a way of disrespecting eachother just because you black like them. After that I found a Christian hair dresser who did my hair very well, I kept it relaxed but it was now almost like a texturiser as I loved leaving textures in my relaxed hair. Made it thicker. If you ladies and gents can do your own hair, then do what you can. Times are hard so don't spend off your money in a salon all the time because a hair dresser making you think you too incompetent to care for your hair at all. Also, don't trim your hair all the time. Nonsense. After a trim protective style alot, moisturise regularly during the week and deep condition once or twice a month. Cover your hair at night with a satin or silk head tie that will actually keep your hair in place. I get professional trims not very often, I keep my hair in natural braids alot, single plaits or two strand twists I do myself that are moisturised during the week. S curl has a good liquid leave in spray conditioner that is good for hydrating natural hair when in natural styles. Learn to do things for our selves, then only go for professional help when we need it. But be honest with yourself, when you get stuck just go for help and don't mess up your hair. If you mess it up, start again. It is just hair. You are alive, give the Lord thanks for that.
Look sis a trim and a cut are two different things😒 it's like almost every hair dresser be jealous of you whether you have long/short hair. This is why I no longer go to hairdressers anymore. From the time I started going to salons my hair started getting shorter and shorter, brittle/dry/unhealthy when I stopped going to salons my hair grew longer and longer was also much more healthier. My advise to you ladies stop going to these salons and do your hair yourselves RU-vid is a great platform to showcase many ways to do your hair. Regardless if I clip my ends or not my hair still grows. We all have different hair types so it's different for many of us. PS. It's up to you ladies what you want to do with your hair but my best advice. 'Stop going to salons'
I stopped going to hairdressers since i was in my early 20s when l saw that the hairdressers always dont listen to me as a client. I always told them to cut at least 1/2 or 1 inch but after the washing of my hair and it ready to be dried under the dryer, they always cut more inches than what i have told them to. So because of that i stopped going there and caring my own hair ever since
Me too, I stop going and my hair started growing. I learned how to braid my own hair and trim my hair. They would cut not trim. My hair his now almost to the middle of my back
Every time I get a trim I swear my hair grows super fast like 1.5 inches in 6 weeks. But I don't think you need to trim no more 3x's a year is sufficient.
I had one stylist in my lifetime that gave me a true trim and not a cut there’s a big difference between the two that’s when I learned to tell the stylist look just wash and press my hair I will trim it myself when I get home here’s your fee thank you and goodbye
Yeah, when I was 16 a stylist my mom suggested took almost four inches off of my hair when she "trimmed" I immediately went back to my stylist where I got a relaxer once a year and a wash and style every two weeks. And she actually trimmed not cut.
WoW!!!!! Thanks for sharing~I just had my hair trimmed by a stylist who stated the opposite. Now I know why a certain area of my hair (mainly the crown) is the most difficult on wash day.
thank you so much for the knowledge my sister... I was doing everything wrong trying to stop my hair from thinning , your a life safer ...God blessed you .
My hair was about seven inches off my scalp. When my stylist "trimmed" my hair, I was darn near bald. Then she stated, "Just live with this style. Yo hair ain't 'gon grow no mo anyway." My foolish behind kept on going to the stylist, each time she would cut my hair. I had to learn the hard way. I have been natural now, over ten years.

I've learned alot in this video! Thank you for going live although I'm watching this after the fact. It makes sense while my ends are a different color than the rest of my hair. I finally am getting a trim next week! Thank God. Thank you for educating me.
You can trim hair in a natural state. I'm a licensed Cosmetologist and I didn't have gaps. Let's say that experienced stylist can trim and cut without using heat. Saying that the only way to cut or trim hair is in a heated state is unknowledgable
I agree With crystal although I’m relaxed; my family members (male and female) prefer their hair to be straight before a trim simply for accuracy. Cuz they have super thick and curly hair. So how can you possibly tell if the curls are evenly trimmed if hair varies in length and tightness of the curls without straight hair????
She don't like natural hair she like hair to be relax she does better with relax hair only I been watching these vids when she gets natural hair clients she don't no what she's doing my opinion When you a stylist in which I have learned in hair school you have to learn all hair types even caucasian hair just my opinion
I trim my hair when it’s dry and moisturized and stretched heatless . U don’t need it to be even your individual strands of hair grows at different times from each other , different stages it will never look even. It will always grow out and be uneven . She doing too fucking much unneeded and rough handling period. Take the criticism and do better.
I remember when I was 12, my mom had my brother drop me off at the salon to get my hair done. Once the lady was almost finished, she told me I had split ends and would I want to get a trim. Me being 12 had no idea what split ends were, so I just said yes. Mind you, my hair was long to the middle of my back. Once she finished "trimming" my hair, I wasn't even able to put it in a pony tail. She basically did a Big Chop!!! I was so hurt!
I seen an video from a doctor stating that we need to get more Biotin in our Diet. She recommended: eggs, cauliflower, sweet potatoes, mushrooms, spinach, salmon, avocado.
I hear you on that one, I have not got my hair cut for sometime now, but when I do wear it out it gets so tangle that I leave it in extensions for ever and a day. but I love to wear it out from time to time, but the tangle☹️
@@chery0071 Yes, I dust my own ends if needed when I do mini twist. That's good enough, I know for myself what my ends feel like & when I need to dust. If you take care of your end (mine anyway) don't have to dust often at all.
I am a licensed cosmetologist class of 08! N actually this is a haircut not trim. Wen u cut the hair u use the densest area as ur guide and a trim is evening the hair ends without loosing too much length. I wore my hair as an short stacked bob n now my hair has grown past shoulder length n I need a haircut to continue a health hair growth like this young lady in the video. I wud trim my ends to obtain the length I wanted b4 I actually cut my own hair( don’t cut ur own hair unless ur trained to do so) I even ask for a second look with another pair of eyes so that I’m even on both sides. Stylist must communicate with their clients on their desired results b4 chopping off their hair.
I disagree i trim whenever my hair tells me it needs a trim which is 4-6 months i have healthy mid back 4b dense hair & i trim curly & straight (by my hairstylist's silk press) ive never gave myself a bad cut while curly but i also use shears so maybe thats why
I have natural hair and I don't use heat to straighten to cut my ends hot comb Flat and damage natural blow dry is not too bad just use a Low temperature Any way good job ♥️
We need to be careful with these money hungry unprofessional hair dressers. I had one put this chemical in my hair and she literally killed my natural shine and curls just for her own greed. Persons who loves their work do not put vinegar on their bees instead, they put honey. In other words if you love your work as a hair styles you do you work with professionalism and honesty why? That's your bread and butter (income). I salute the people who display the qualities of sincerity and integrity 👏 👌 👍
I've got bra length hair and I only trim once a year. I try really hard to keep my ends moisturized and I wear protective styles 99% of the time. I found out by doing this my end stay healthy and I get to retain my length. I've gone from shoulder length hair to bra length in 2 years.
@@sb8404 22th century natural hair, hair banding. The hair banding gave me a protective style that was easy and if I need to be fancy I'll make a bun with it.
I don’t understand why a hairstylist half to cut your ends every time you get your hair done and then they chop off too much hair, I never had my hair cut and it would still grow long and pretty, and if they feel the need to clip your ends, clip you ends not cut half of your hair off.
Kelley Brooks it just depends on how you wear your hair some people wear styles that cause breakage & split ends like braids etc..... just depends on what your doing to your hair
I haven't trimmed my hair for a year now. I see a lot of growth. But I also protect my ends with flaxseed jel. In January I will do my first mini trim.
I love the quizzes!!! I am natural and have been guilty of not getting trims often enough. I'm definitely trying to do better. Just as I was ready for my next trim, the governor closed all salons due to covid-19. Now I will be at 16 weeks for my trim. 😑
I know I am watching an old video but I must say in my 60 years I have never seen a stylist with so much knowledge. You are amazing and how proud your mother must be.
I'm transitioning to natural (about 25% natural & 75% relaxed) and my beautician recently did a silk press. She had to blow dry seeeeeveral times, use a straightening comb, and flat iron....and STILL couldn't get it straight after several attempts. I've been relaxed since I was 3 until now (33) and now know the definition of tenderheaded. I was dying yall! 🤦♀️😫😂
I've had relaxers for 30yrs. Finally cut it all off-- bald just about. Relaxers will always be always be on the hair -unless you cut it all off. People may not know hair growth is hereditary -- and foods and pills; illnesses -- play a part. 90% internal/10% products.. Pressing your hair all the time-- thins our hair - over time.. Learn your scalp folks!
I'm more prone to do my own hair now because of a traumatic experience. When taking care of my natural hair myself, it grew below my breast. I wanted to treat myself, get a new style, and surprise my husband. I went to a hair care professional. He washed, conditioned, and blow dried my hair and said my ends needed to be trimmed. I agreed. I figured he knew... he's the professional.Right? He turned me away from the mirror and started trimming in the back. I noticed a couple sitting close by looking in my direction. Their eyes were going up and down. The guy's mouth dropped. When the stylist turned me around, the side he cut was "ALMOST" touching my shoulder, the other side was below my breast still. I let him finish so my hair would n't be lopsided!!! But, I did not pay him, and have never, ever recommended him. When I got home, my husband was surprised alright! He was soooooo surprised he asked me where I went to get my hair done, and went to get his gun. Of course, I refused to tell him, but never trusted anyone trimming my hair again.
Been watching your videos for a while. Always learning something new. Your work is done with so much knowledge and professionalism so if you can't afford to visit a salon the information that you provide in your videos certainly helps out a lot. Keep up the good work and God Bless.
@@bonitaclements5495 but you have to get those dead ends off haricot look rightdidn't you hear say no matter how much product you put on a dead-end it's not going to work
I love watching Elite Hair Care because she is so gentle with her clients & their hair, you can tell she prides herself on a job well done. She’s well educated in the world of silk press and heat tools you can tell that is her domain, she basically owns it. However most of what she says does not apply to me. As someone who used to colour, relax, and silk press my hair and now has Virgin hair I can say I’ve tried it all to minimize the amount of damage to my hair. I quit the relaxer, And I quit the hair dye but my hair straightener was my VERY best friend. For 10 years I experimented on ways to minimize the damage done by straightening. I would wash and clarify my scalp, I bought top of the line heat protectant diluted a bit with distilled water in a mist spray bottle to make sure every strand was coated without over saturating my hair. I learn how to do a roller set with 2inch Rollers to reduce the amount of stress my hair went under with a manual blow dryer, I bought the best Ionic hooded hair dryer I could get my hands on. I did protein treatments and deep conditioners, I bought the best grade ceramic Flat iron with dual floating plates available to me. I used a heat protectant serum that left my hair shiny and light. Comb and chase method always. I never put my straightener higher than 390 since i knew hair burned at 450. I wrapped my hair every night In a silk scarf that I washed regularly, my press would last 2 weeks before my next wash. I NEVER touched my hair up with the straightener after the initial first wash. And guess what. Heat damage. My hair was long (bra strap length) but it wouldn’t grow any longer, it wasn’t as thick as I would have liked it. My curls were frizzy and lifeless after each wash. I slowly began to transition away from straightening, once a month, once every 3 months once every 6 and so on. I went 3 years without straightening my hair And decided to celebrate by straightening it. I put the straightener at 375, it wasn’t BONE straight, that wasn’t my goal I just didn’t want to damage my hair. And guess what I did anyway lmao, was it severe? No, but it’s still permanent. Every one is different. My curls now look like I paid extremely good money for a weave and it’s all because I had to break away from my long term love with my hair straightener. When I’m bored I i flat twist my natural hair to my scalp and put a lace front wig on. Every one is different and to each their own. I know you say to NEVER cut curly but if you NEVER plan to wear your hair straight in your life then there’s no point in cutting it straight. using tension is more than enough to do a thorough. I’m only sharing this so you consider the naturals out there like me because there are a lot of us. 💜 If we could silk press our natural hair and get away with it we would be the first in line.
What I want for Christmas is a round trip ticket to Florida, and a gift certificate for the works. I live in ATL with a ton of stylists for the celebrity’s. BUT I enjoy your work, class, and knowledge and would bypass the locals for your gift. I’ve watched most of your videos on repeat! Keep it up!
People need to stop reaching so much, everyone is complaining that her customer looks unhappy. 🤔 But at the end she was clearly smiling, some people complain so much they can make a good experience a bad one.☝🏽💜💖💜💖💜💖
I agree people makes everything become a problem for them if she never like her hair to be done she would never sit down to get her hair done she is a adult she is happy
Her hair actually looks like heat damage on the ends... Its even discolored and very dry... Heat protection is ALWAYS needed when doing ANY CLIENT not JUST natural clients. I'm a hair stylist myself 27+ yrs and my naturals only get a trim if needed *every 2-3 months* or relaxed hair every relaxer 6-8 weeks... I always examine the ends and I suggest to the client what I see and what needs to be done and what she can do while away from me for that extended 2 weeks of time. "Hot combing" is very dangerous on ANY type of hair if the stylist isn't understanding the temperature of heat using a marcel stove... The more heat the stylist uses its still damaging... PLEASE PLEASE use ur heat protection ESPECIALLY when doing a double hard press like this stylist is doing...
Thank you I saw that too ,to much heat on her hair I stopped with heat and relaxers I just wash use my leave in conditioner section it in fours and let it dry add a little hair lotion and go, I trim my own ends just the ends my hair mid way down my back and I only use semi color for the grays in the front ;)
Maaaannnn....I read the comments before seeing the cut so I was anticipating some deep cut. I've seen worse and it was definitely a "trim" but there was alot of heat being used on the hair though...
We all do things differently. Instead of criticizing the way a person CHOOSES to do things just agree to disagree and KIM. Ijs she is caring for her clients hair the way she sees fit and I havent seen or heard a dissatisfied customer yet. Keep up the great work Chrystal you doing your thing.
@@salliebrown307 The average head sheds 50-100 hairs per day. Your hair is supposed to shed as your hair grows through growth cycles. When your hair is braided or in a protective style those hairs are mixed in with your hair that is growing. Your concern needs to be proper detangling so you don't get matting or breakage. You should be deep conditioning and staying on top of both moisture and protein.
It depends on the head of hair. A smooth blow dry means less passes with the flatiron if done correctly. Everyones hair isn't flatironed at the same temps if a stylist knows what they are doing. Dominican blowouts damage tons of people's hair all the time and they roller set first. They cover the vent on the back of the dryer to make it overheat and often don't use heat protectant. They used higher heat heat on me than a regular stylist with a flatiron and blow-dryer. They like Brazilian and Egyptians often sneak relaxer in conditioner too, but that is a whole other conversation.
There is a certain trim called a Rezo Cut. I’ve seen females with your clients texture of hair get this trim and their hair still comes out looking good after it’s been trimmed and straightened. Some people just don’t know how to trim hair in its natural state...
I only put heat on my hair once a year,if that. So maybe naturals who use heat on a regular need a trim that often. I wouldn't want to put heat on my hair just to get a trim
If you have Type 4 hair - how do dry your hair without heat? There're millions of women with textured natural hair that don't want to sport a TWA (teeny weeny afro) nor braids/corn rows/dreads. I'm one of them.
I use TWO 1650W Conair titanium hair dryers on my hair QOD (every other day). Been doing this for 10+ yrs. Granted I only dry the surface of my hair as I sport a unique aerodynamic 'doo that doesn't require me to get every strand BONE dry to the shaft. When I had shoulder-length hair I used hard rollers, weekly, and set under a hair dryer for 4H. Before that my mother used a hot comb weekly. My hair LOVES heat - I have waves FOR DAYS. I've never had damaged hair. I'm convinced the key to healthy textured hair is care frequency. Heat or no - your hair will shed if you only care for it once or twice weekly. Of course overall fitness/health, medication side effects & diet matters a great deal.
I'd NEVER apply heat to my hair when it's BONE DRY. I ALWAYS added oil. Watching this reminds me why I stopped going to a stylist. My hair ALWAYS felt like straw after a salon visit.
I'm with the other lady. Please come to Greensboro, NC! There are 5 colleges here and I know you could make a big impact on the community! Do continue to enlighten us; extremely informative! Lolita
@@BoysenberryLetters yes true that to much heat to her head. What about u natural and you want. A trim and u don't want to be slick out. In her words out she going to turn you down as a client wow my opinion
My hairstylist does the same but only uses a hot comb on my edges she can also get my hair pin straight just by blow drying way straighter than what she does & my hair is dense like the girl 4b ive never had heat damage she should be able to do the same just my opinion
I'm more concerned about the comb being used. As a natural I prefer a wide tooth comb to be used on my hair. When I go into my stylist for my trim, I usually take in my on comb because I don't want her using a small tooth comb. What are your thoughts on this? Btw new subbie, love your vlogs. ❤😊👍🏿
Wide tooth is good to comb out your hair but when you get a trim you should use a small comb like the one she has in the video because the wide tooth comb is not getting all out hair it needs to be straight as possible to make sure you get a good trim and all of you split ends. I’m not a professional but I watch a lot of these videos and when I used to go to a hairstylist who specializes is healthy hair I use to ask her all these questions and sometimes I still contact her if I have any questions because I just decided to do my hair and my two daughters hair it’s cheaper I can do it exactly how I want and if something go wrong I have no to blame but my self. Hope that answer you question.
I only got my hair trim once time after becoming natural in May 2018. I was diagnosis with scarring alopecia with ccca after over 30 years of being relax and the former beautician that I was seeing for every two weeks for 10 years which I now know was overprocessing my hair when I get a touch up. Before I get a touch up I always asked this former beautician is it time to get a touch up as part of my hair I feel the new growth and some area I did not feel the new growth and this former beautician will apply the relaxer on the entire head.. This former beautician than asked me why is my hair thinning, breaking off, etc. I was getting hair color rinse and the color will be bright orange when I get a cedar red brown after two weeks. I had a big bald spot in the crown of my head, no edges when I was diagnosis with scarring alopecia thru a scalp biospy . I started doing research in what causes scarring alopecia and some website mentioned chemicals, hair style, excess heat. The only hair style that I was getting when relax was wrapped, flat iron and finger waves. I'm trying to get a trim that does not apply a lot of heat to make the scarring alopecia worst and permanent hair lost. Another reason why I am afraid to get a trim is heat damaged. Too afraid to trust another stylist who do not knows and cares about the client hair after spending over 10 years with a former beautician. Also I have heard when applying heat the hair porosity will change. I have low porosity hair and do not want the hair porosity to change to high porosity.
Come I will come and look for you to take care of my hair it's natural about 5 years but I love the way you handle her hair I need my hair trimmed I live in New Orleans Louisiana but I come that far to get my hair pretty like that oh my God I love it
