Well, you can mill your own lumber now… so, you could build yourself some benches etc… I’m sure that some of your guests would love to sit out there and enjoy the game duck pond and listen to the water… I know I would 😊😊😊

This is a terrific project accomplishment! Thank you so much on behalf of the animals (primarily the ducks and geese-but I think eventually many others on the farm will benefit). I realized just today that the pond is their first experience in swimming! They didn’t know they knew how to swim, they were a little hesitant at first, but they followed their nature and now they’re getting to experience what is natural for them. I’m so glad You made this pond. It’s just marvelous. And viewing your videos makes me feel so happy.

Daylilies would be a good plant for around the pond, and herbs there are some good herbs for them to pick at. Thyme, Rosemary bee balm. Marigolds and sunflowers are also safe, I plant many black oil sunflower seeds all over my yard for the animals. Its funny watching my horse eat a hole sunflower plant lol

Woke up this morning and suddenly remembered this is Hidden Spring Farm Day! Having grown up on a farm in Ohio I miss it dearly. You clearly have the heart of a farmer who loves his land and animals. I’m 77, but it’s on my bucket list to spend at least a week there as a dedicated nostalgic visitor. I don’t know if anyone has asked this, or if it is something you don’t consider relevant, but what work do you do away from the farm? You seem to have an engineering bent in your approach to problems. Thanks for sharing your wonderful adventure.😮

Aww thanks. Honestly I’m a critical thinker by nature but do nothing close to any kind of construction for a living. I’ve just been practicing my diy skills over the years and I really enjoy it so I keep wanting more challenging projects. Gotta keep some things private though so I’m usually pretty vague on those things. Olive our younger sheepdog is adopted, given to us by a viewer and she was in Ohio. I think it was an 8-9 hour drive for her if I remember right so it would actually be a nice driving trip in the fall with all the scenic forest colours along the way.

Well I originally had this vision of a big pond, stocked with fish, kayaks, fishing, ice skating, hockey etc. but once I learned the extreme cost I just built this little diy duck pond. I still have the vision of a huge pond but it’s a big endeavour and not a priority.

Most animals are smart enough to know what to eat and what not to eat, but usually when I do is Google plants safe for whichever habitat you plant in! For example,, plants safe for duck pond It’ll give you a list of plants that are safe to use around that particular animal . Hope that might give you some ideas By the way, you have done a beautiful job on the pond. It looks gorgeous..

You could very well be right, there are tons of lilies around but the cats and dogs don’t eat it. Don’t wanna take a chance with geese though as they nibble on everything. Thnx for the comment 😁

You need duckweed in that pond. Tons and tons of free food, that the ducks will love.

so wholesome! With planting, try to make sure the soil is wet before u plant the new plant friends in. It helps them adjust! Also to kind of loosen the soil the plant comes in. Just massage the roots a bit out of the planter-pot shape and shake a bit of soil out just so that there's a bit of mixing of soils to help the plant adjust and feel comfortable. Can't wait to see the pond ecosystem come to life with algae and frogs!

May I suggest a couple of Elderberry bushes, which provide a natural defence against internal worms ans parasites. Their bloom is gorgeous and the berries do the work. Great for the chickens also.

I think lilacs are safe around critters.. my grandmother had them everywhere and none of the animals ever bothered them or were bothered by them. I love watching ducks... they're either busy or asleep.

hi: here is a tip. when planting something from a nursery , cut the root ball. either tear it apart or take a box cuter and cut straight down. Roots will grow the way they start out an that is in a ball . this way they will spread and be healthy. this comes from a nursery worker. just a suggestion. We always made sure our customers knew what to do. those birds sure look a lot cleaner since the pond. that wad the greatest idea yet for them. Honestly, you have the cutest videos on youtube.

Oh my goodness Chad, you clarified my biggest question mark regarding your videos... and it was really a huge one, lol. This one word you use (more often in your older videos) to put the geese and the ducks to bed... I just never understood it.. to me it sounded like "Toolooganay" or something like that and it was just the biggest mystery.. I even googled it and came up with crazy ideas like it could be military jargon, you know, to command the troops lol... Thank you for explaining it, now I can sleep peacefully again!! 🤣🤣😂 It's a really cool word by the way 😎👍👍The pond looks great and both the duckies and the geese really do enjoy it, they must be so happy to be able to swim now!! 😍 And what a treat, we got 2 duck parades in one video!! 🤩😍❤

Haha that’s too funny. I originally had a plan for a big pond then I was thinking what if all the ducks are on the pond how can I get them to go back into their hut. I’ve been training them for like 4 years now although we’ve added to the flock. I still don’t think they’re trained yet but Olive always helps me herd them in anyway. Always fun.

I actually had the impression that you were planning a big pond when I think of what you told us in some of your older videos... but it's still not small, the ducks and the geese fit in nicely.. and yes, that might really be a problem, what do you do if in a big pond they don't want to "tulugan na" and stay in the middle of the pond? In the end you and the doggies might have to jump in and herd them out.. 🤣😂💦 I mean I'm sure it would be funny for us to watch if you filmed that scene, but I'm not so sure you would enjoy it!! 😂😂

could do a buried metal trough and plant reeds, they spread but are wetland plant. Can use to thatch a shed too. I would look up bog plants native to your area, etsy might have them online. Wild rice can be grown in colder areas, people start in greenhouses & plant out each year. Wild geese love harvested rice fields, enough leftovers.

The pond is beautiful!!!!! Your farm is amazing!!!! You have done an amazing job!!!! Can I please give you some advice on your piggies? It is so important not to over feed them, it is so hard on their legs. The adults should get about 2 cups or less of pellets per day, if they are being fed other things then of course you would reduce that amount. 🙂

Aww thanks. If two cups is right, I’m probably feeding too much cause I give both Billie & Bobby 1 scoop each and I’m sure the scoop is more than 2 cups. They always seem hungry so I was just guessing that this is enough. Do they look chubby? Should I put them on a diet?

Good morning! Your pond is lovely. I know you appreciate constructive advice so I want to share my experience with turtles in my pond. It was a disaster. They would eat my baby swans & ducks 😢. It was devastating. Once there, they were difficult to eliminate.

That’s advice from experience I can appreciate that. Not like I want turtles and I won’t be adding them but sometimes nature happens and I didn’t want it stuck in the pond…any small wildlife really needs to be able to get out. Hopefully it doesn’t become an issue 😀

Yes it’s turning out fairly well. The water is a bit green now from algae but is still decently clean. Maybe I’ll get some minnows or something but even if I need to clean the sludge from the bottom I’m sure it’ll be many months maybe even years. We’ll see how it goes.

You have a great ear for matching your music to your footage Chad! You’re right that nature will enhance your pond but keep your eyes peeled. I guy I just sold some chicks to told me about a snapping turtle biting off a foot to one of his geese. He had to put it down. It was a big alligator snapper. The pond is looking great! Will you be discussing how to filter it or have I missed that in a previous episode?

Aww thanks. The waterfall filter has a foam portion and bags for bio balls, maybe you missed that episode. I dont think we have snapping turtles here but I hope turtles won’t be an issue too. Not like I want turtles but sometimes nature happens.

The pond looks like a picture, absolutely beautiful. I love all the animals too. I planted my tomatoes and other stuff, but we have had a lot of rain, so I hope it won't hurt them. Hugs to you and your wife. ❤😊

I never get tired of seeing the beautiful home you have made for your animals. You plants around the pond are the perfect touch. Its going to be awesome when they all grow. Looking forward to "the bench" a great idea. Ever think of getting miniature Nigerian goats. They are like puppies, I can picture the playground you would make for them. Good morning Chad everything looks great...possibly try pea rock around the out side of pond..greenery for around the pond maybe there are shrubs or other foliage around your farm you can dig up a use...or lilac, catoni aster...animals would have to eat pretty much the whole plant to cause death...if they do eat some of it they would throw up and remember that plant and stay away....love your channel keep up the great work...go Leafs🎉

Not really, his collar has never come off on its own. Few weeks ago I took it off to change the battery in the air tag tracker and he won’t let me put it back on now. He’s keeping his distance and every time I try to get him to put his collar on he bolts. He’s really a rascal & he’s never been the cuddly type.
