The Yoshida River, the largest tributary of the Nagara River, flows through the city of Gujo Hachiman, cutting through the center of the town and running north to south before joining the Nagara River.
Gujo Hachiman, blessed with the Yoshida River, has developed by making the most of its waters, becoming a beautifully maintained castle town. From the Miyagase Bridge, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the Gujo Hachiman Castle towering over the mountaintops, surrounded by lush greenery, and the incredibly clear water stream. Walking along the “Miyagase Komichi” (promenade) that stretches along the riverbank, one can catch a glimpse of how the people of this town live in harmony with nature.
Gujo Hachiman is located upstream of the Nagara River, where three rivers, including the Yoshida River and the Oda River, converge. The “culture of clear streams” can indeed be called a precious heritage of Gujo Hachiman. The fact that this natural gift has been designated as a “town of beautiful waters” by the Ministry of the Environment is a source of pride for the region. The charm of this beautiful town, nurtured by the Yoshida River, along with its historical background and the activities of its people, will surely leave a deep impression on visitors.
