I'm super excited to tell you about NatureChlor! I have talked before about how much I love making HOCl (hypochlorous acid) to use as a safe and non toxic cleaner. I have been using the Force of Nature to make HOCl and I love using it to clean. I recently learned about the company Controlomatic that makes a simple device that allows you to use your own salt, vinegar and water to produce HOCl safely at home. I contacted the friendly people at Controlomatic to ask if they would send me a NatureChlor device so I could create this video for you. All opinions in the video are my own. HOCl is a powerful sanitizer and disinfectant. It can kill COVID-19 / coronavirus as well. I use it for general cleaning in my home. I also use it for disinfecting after handling raw meat. It works great in the bathroom. I also use it for my hands as a hand sanitizer and I spray the shopping cart handles as well. I'll link some articles about HOCl below!

So glad you did this review. I currently use the FON but it makes such a small amount compared to how much I use!

Yeah, the FoN gets quite finicky to measure when you need to bring down the pH. I use a large electric water distiller to get pure water, which is already more acidic than regular tap water. I find that I don't really have to add any vinegar if I start with that. I've also been using my EcoloxTech Eco One more often as the ratio of salt to water is easy to remember: 1g NaCl to 1L water. About 40 minutes of run time nets roughly 480PPM HOCl. But the NatureChlorMAX would be such a time-saver at the volumes it's able to generate. Then again, I've also been experimenting with Chlor Brite (dichlor) granules you can get at any pool supply store. It's the same as HOCl, but with a UV stabilizer to make it last longer in the presence of sunlight. According to my calculations, about 1g/L of the stuff I got from Leslie's will also generate ~480PPM HOCl with 55% FAC, which means it still has 45% residual killing power after it comes in contact with organic matter (dichlor is what's known as a "chlorine donor").
@tigq1430
@tigq1430 3 года назад
@Mike Trieu could I just try pool cleaning granules? I have a cleaning business, this would be an added benefit. However, need to find the most cost effective, quickest way to add this to the business.
@Rlphotoman
@Rlphotoman Год назад
@@tigq1430 Use Kosher salt. Do not use dichlor granules. Dichlor is not the same as HOCl. Use the vinegar to get the proper pH. Proper pH is the difference between hypochlorous acid and sodium hypochlorite. Dichlor is also a safety hazard. and is more expensive than Kosher salt.

Sorry, but you really do not know what you are talking about. This is weak bleach so it's not better than bleach it is bleach. You also need to tell people the gas coming off the water is hydrogen so it needs air and no open flame. You don't talk about the PPM (the strength) standards or anything for disinfection versus sanitizing you just throw out a random number. You need about 400 PPM for cleaning, you just shill for the company. The recommended concentration for disinfection has been 600-800 ppm of chlorine bleach and 50 to 200 parts per million (ppm) for sanitizing. For sanitizing vegetables Most operations, unless the produce is very dirty, will not need a sanitizer concentration greater than 200 ppm total chlorine to achieve the desired sanitizing effect. Contact times of one minute or greater are typically sufficient to achieve a thorough kill.

It is not bleach. It is making hypochlorous acid. Do some research. Have you looked into this company or the very popular Force of Nature? It is even registered on the EPA website.

I may need to get this! I find myself making FON quite often. But larger amounts would be nice as long as I can use it within 14 days. Does this have the same expiration of 14 days? Is that standard across hypochlorous acid?
@wixbetty
@wixbetty Год назад
14 days is the time FON recommends because capsules are their actual product... while it can degrade in two weeks, it can also last for over a month. Ideally, keeping it in a cool, dark place will give you longer-lasting results, but if it does degrade, just run it again in the FON. The salt-vinegar-water content remains the same, so as long as you save up your leftovers until you have a full 12oz, you can run another cycle to freshen it up to full potency.
@beverlyannsjoblom
@beverlyannsjoblom 7 месяцев назад
@@wixbetty I use the controlomatic NatureChlor generator to make Hypochlorous Acid / HOCl and find that it easily keeps "fresh" for 2 weeks. Also, I've checked my distilled water machine for PH and its good enough so I don't have to bother with the adding the vinegar. I also no longer waste my time using the measuring strips either. For me, its super easy and super fast.

I learned about this product about a month ago and I just knew Jen would review it. I was not disappointed. Awesome! 😁 One question I do have is how much power does that base model consume? I'd imagine the MAX version would use up quite a lot more.
@MikeTrieu
@MikeTrieu 4 года назад
@@ThymefortheTable There are inline devices like the Kill-A-Watt that can do that. Otherwise, it should be sufficient to simply read the label on the power supply that came with the unit. If it doesn't list the wattage outright, the output voltage and current can multiplied together to get that value.
@MikeTrieu
@MikeTrieu 4 года назад
As a follow-up to my question, I recently acquired a NatureChlorMAX and the power supply reads 12V@2A DC output. So that's roughly 24W. That's quite a bit less than the 12V@5A (60W) of the Eco One. I guess it makes sense since the MAX only generates 250PPM after 30 mins compared to the Eco One's 480PPM after 40 mins. My own empirical testing of the MAX after an hour in 1 gal solution yielded roughly 250PPM. It seems like it stalls out around there. I'll run it overnight just to see what the ultimate concentration ceiling is, but these early results are not sparking a lot of confidence at the moment. Edit: LOL! The Eco One's power supply fits into the MAX! I'm already getting much more vigorous output! What would happen if I bumped it to 12V@10A or higher?! 😆

@wixbetty
@wixbetty Год назад
@@MikeTrieu Did you ever report back about your overnight results? FWIW, the salt recommendations that come with the NatureChlorMAX run very low in my experience. I make 6 gallons at a time and use a tablespoon of salt PER gallon. You could use less, and run longer, but why? Rinsing the electrode in vinegar every so often will minimize any build-up on the electrode plates and you can use your time to do better things.

Can anyone explain the chemistry of this? I’ve seen a few attempts, but nothing convincing. If vinegar is in the mixture, is the gas given off carbon dioxide? Or is it still hydrogen, as it would be without the vinegar?

It is much easier than FON. The price is definitely more though. If you are using HOCl for a lot of things though, it is so worth it to make larger amounts at a time. what happen if you have a higher chlorine? let's say 400 ppm...
@MikeTrieu
@MikeTrieu 4 года назад
You know, it really doesn't matter. It'll just shorten the contact time for tougher pathogens than SARS-CoV-2. You might also start to notice some salt residue at higher concentrations. Once I made a crazy 4306PPM concentration to match the EvaClean PurTabs level needed to kill C.diff spores within 4 minutes. It left a white, chalky film on all my surfaces. Easy enough to wipe off with a wet towel, though.

Don't inhale the gas immediately after generating the HOCl. There's always going to be a fraction of chlorine gas floating at the top of the container. You can shake up the container to get it to dissolve back into the water.
