I have this tent, and I am very happy with it, it never let me down. Properly guy roped and pegged, wouldn't go anywhere in wind. That bend you got, may be manufacturing defect in the tent you got. I know another guy, who has the same tent, very happy with it.
Watched this and my observation is that from the way it just bounced back into shape, the poles didnt bend as described in your amazon review and perhaps "disaster" could have been avoided from better pegging with better more apropriate pegs (delta ground anchors perhaps). Entertaining video though 😀
I bought this tent last year and its done me proud i love it , if its guyed out at every available point then its really very sturdy , i bought extra pegs and guy lines for it.
I used to walk to School in worse in Scotland in shorts age 5, dinae see many people camping, folk from London would come up every year to go camp up the Mountains and die, when it gets that bad, I use a tent called Travelodge.
After seeing a huge sheet of ice get thrown off one of those turbines I don't go near them after a snow storm now. Could the tent not just get pegged out better? Can you attach extra guy lines?

i see what you did wrong, it was set up with the wind hitting the head side of the tent, if it was hitting the foot side (shorter pole side) it should have been fine. but then again 20mph shouldnt break a naturehike tent no matter what way winds blowing
Looks like you set wrong this tent . First you set it with the bigger and flatter surface into the wind. The other side is narrower and not as flat. Second looks like you put the flysheet turned 180°. At the red poles comes the side of the flysheet with 2 paracords and at the silver poles comes the side of the flysheet with only one paracord. In your movie it can be seen that the side collapsed is the one with red poles and the flysheet has only one paracord.
Greetings from a sunny and much warmer Malaysia. You made the right choice in abandoning this overnighter in the face of the prevailing conditions and the unsuitabilty of the tent. Live to camp another day 👍😷🇲🇾
You would have had to build a nature shelter over the tent for it to be stable, and even then, it'd probably still blow over 🤷🏻♀️ I've had a couple weather camp fails in my days, but not to wind yet. Knock on wood lol

Oh dear mate 😂😂 I had that tent on a maybe list too, I’ve scrubbed it straight off. How strong was the wind ? Didn’t look to be anything crazy and them poles or rather the joint collapsed. Seems a bit of a design fail that, not that I’ve had any a tent with those multi linked pole sets as yet. They all the same design or joint ?
Wind farms increase your cost since they're net negative return on investment. They cost more to produce, install and maintain over their lifetime than they generate in electric power.

To be fair, you didn’t try staking it out at all available points. I would have loved to see if it would have survived the high winds if it were properly staked out.
@@ScottishWanderer yeah, but did that number of pegs cover all of the tie outs on the fly? I suspect not. Usually a manufacturer supplies minimum pegs to pitch the tent, but not enough to cover all the tieouts. I know that my Big Agnes tent support poles will buckle inwards of the outside of the tent is exposed to strong gusts of winds and not totally guyed out. But if I use all the tie out points on the fly, the tent is much more storm worthy.
@@andymytys Yep, like Summit or Nothing demonstrated with his Cloud Up 2, not all guy lines pegged means tent collapsed, guy lines all pegged it stays strong from a windstorm in Dartmoor.
For some reason, I never trusted this manufacturer. There is a limit to how lightweight a tent can be before becoming too fragile. Also, I never liked those those proprietary structural elements, such as the Y-shaped/T-shaped joining elements, pre-bent poles, etc. While you can easily fix standard straight poles in the field, those proprietary systems can only be replaced, not repaired.
How have you got snow again ya lucky bugger. I'm only 15 mile north west of you nr Skipton and i've had nowt. I can see there's a bit on the high points of the dales but nowt locally.
Bad call on the tent, good call on the self rescue 😂. If by anyone is negative in the comments tell them to bog off! What I seen is a great reality check to people who think winter camping can be done with summer gear. Good observation and awareness video 👍🏻
The large screen area and lack of mid height guy out points is typical of three season tents. A little sewing would make that tent capable of handling significant wind but not snow loads.
I’d say it’s no reason to buy a Hilleberg but it’s definitely the reason why you don’t waste your money on a Nature Hike . You would never have needed a mountain rescue team Stuarty, you could’ve texted me & id have been there in twenty minutes mate 😂😂😂
