You are so welcome. I cry when I watch this video because a Navajo hotel employee stole all of this from me, my Bizhis hair brushes, 2 gorgeous handmade woven blankets, stirring sticks, carding brushes and my Bizhis spindle my Nali whittled out for her by hand. It was at the Courtyard Marriott in Farmington. The Mgr knee who it was as by incident that next morning he all of a sudden quit. He also came into my hotel room thinking no one was there until I came out & I should have known then he lied telling me he was checking the room. I said, you come into peoples rooms to check on what? He ran out. I told the Mgr but she did nothing. When I reported the stolen items the Mgr begged me to not call the police. I don't know why buy I felt compassion toward her & didn't. My fault. So in the end I reported this to the main marriott & they barreled into me abt the police report & said I lied, if I take it to court they would counter sue me for lying. It was awful. Thus w/o a police report it went into nothing. I am sure in my ignorance I could've done more but didn't. My thoughts are when we do bad things like this God's vengeance is greater than any law suit or anger. Pray for me to get over this. I love this video though & my dear son. We should value the goodness of our ancestors, what they taught us, their examples & more. I also say to those we do Native American ancestral research for, or any type of genealogical research, "that w/o one of our ancestors we would not exist." Thus they are critical & we need to know & remember them. Thank you for listening. Hugs from Navajo Grandma

When I was in high school my hair was long and then I joined the military and I got used to the high and tight haircut but now I’m letting it grow back. I’ve also noticed that with long hair I was able to feel when someone or something is near me or behind me. Thanks Navajo Grandma for letting us know what the long hair in men means. ❤️

Wonderful comment. What you described as your wisdom, your intuitiveness which of only two are your personal strength and power given thru the strength and length of your hair. it’s a sacred blessing. I feel guilty presenting this as when I wanted to be like the white girls with short curly hair as a teenager, I felt like I too lost some spiritual and intuitive strength I had which I have learned to retain thru humility and prayer. But yes, your hair is a powerful adornment of wisdom on your head. Beautiful. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

I cried and cried. Courtyard Marriott did nothing, they only offered me 2 free nights stay. They are Mormons and their Attorneys said they would fight me and I would end up with nothing more. Such horrible people! You can't pay enough for heirlooms. I have let it go. I know some have said there are funds for when stuff like this happens but not in Farmington, NM. Thank you so much Navajo grandma this really means so much to me I am from the Todích'íí'nii clan. My mother is navajo but my dad is white, we always lived in an area where there arent many Navajos so I always stood out and people would make fun of my skin color. And over time that has damaged my confidence as a native American. When I young my parents divorced and i lived with my dad which over time has white washed me and made me bury my dine side. But over time I have had a very hard time with school, family problems, etc... but one time I met another native American (i cant remember which clan) and he went by buffalo bob, he was a story teller and he was telling us winter stories. One story he mentioned is one of his past. He told us how at one point in his life he didn't want to live anymore but what helped him the most was reconnecting with his culture. So that has really inspired me to reconnect and learn things. It makes me feel like I belong and I truly feel grounded. I am very grateful for your videos for they teach me about my ancestors, thank you. And I cant wait to go to my moms house and say "mom! I learned how to tie my hair into a Tsiiyéél!".

What a beautiful comment of tears, trial and goodness. You bear the experiences of intermarriages that exist and family problems. I use to tell my children, if you think we have problems go next door & it's scary how they too have problems, some worse than ours. You are not alone. I love your strengths and what blessings you have learned from your trials. Yes your defining yourself is critical thru culture & traditions, language and home. And more. I say, if you don't have a defined life you will fall for anything. Keep learning and being teachable in your Dine' way of life. So proud of you shi yazhi. I will pray for you as I always do. My full and utter respect to this nearly blind 90 year old woman who weaved the really wonderful rug!👍👏💪I really apreciate this rugs. But since i'm rather poor and couldn't afford even a small one, i tried to make one by myself. I first had to get wool in different natural colours(white, grey, brown and black) i spun it with a spindle. Then i made me a kind of loom. And began to weave a rather complicated pattern.... To make a long story short: i did it only halfway because the warp threads began to slacken in the process.... And because it took me months, the moths had already begun to eat into it.... So i stopped, but it taught me a lesson and lots of respect! Beforehand i was rather careless with clothing. Not anymore! Because i think always that still somebody has to make it by hand, even though it is a cheap one out of the supermarket. Stay safe out there.

@NavajoGrandma
@NavajoGrandma 2 года назад
Well let me tell you first with healing hugs, "Abby" has never forgotten you. She still lives. Though not in our realm, but she knows your thoughts, she knows you miss her. One thing that one man when he was dying left his body and went into the spirit world. He said he felt his wife crying with such remorse and hurt and pain. He said he felt it intensely. He said a prayer that she would not cry anymore as it hurt him so much. He said you have such a distinct feeling of your loved ones there who haven't passed yet. So he was revived and he made his wife promise she would not cry for him anymore. He told her, I am happy in the spirit world, when it is your turn you will totally understand. He then made her promise not to try and revive him if on the operating table he has a massive cardiac. Of course the doctors have a duty to revive, but even when they tried he died. He said so many things that we learned from death. They are alive, they are happy, they have returned to God's presence and that is holy to know. But she misses you too and wants you to move forward with your life with success and remember her with joy when she brushed your hair and put it in a bun. What joyful happy thoughts you need to have. Write them down and on down days, open the book and read these happy thoughts and verses you wrote that joy may fill your soul. No one forgets us. In fact they become our angels and so you are one lucky person knowing this. They protect you and love you still. I hope you understand this. For it is true. There are so many experiences I have had that I know this is so true. So thank you for watching this video, know that you are loved and Abby knows your heart even more. Allow her to be at peace and allow your heart to smile now. Find joy and talk to her, she hears you. Tell her about your life and what you are doing or want to accomplish. Ask for her help. You may think this is silly it is not. It takes faith to realize these things that when you see her again she will be so happy and tell you thank you for sharing your life with me, as she will say, I was there protecting you too and praying for you as well. What happy thoughts. Feel strong and smile and know life is not over, it is just beginning for you and for her. Hope filled with hugs always. Navajo Grandma

It really is up to the person as some make them thicker for celebrations and some thinner for certain times. I say just what you desire. About the loom, I am of no assistance. Sorry. Navajo Grandma

When you say the imperfections make it perfect, I was reminded of my mother's knitting. She was very skilled at knitting and crochet, and could knit a complex cable sweater in any color without even a written pattern. So when my father was in the hospital, she'd sit by his bed and knit. She was making a cable knit for me at the time. And she was so worried about him, that she accidentally made one sleeve inches longer than the other at the cuff. It didn't matter to me, because I always had to roll up the sleeves anyway. She was embarrassed by the imperfection, though I tried to tell her that it was my favorite sweater because of that: her love and worry were knitted like a story into the sweater. It meant more to me than her other ones. I had to try and explain that to her. It was made with navy-colored yarn, which is harder to see in knitting when one is aging. Just like your woven rug, the story behind them makes them even more precious. And I still have it.

My mama was born in 1926 she passed a few years ago and the right to take care of her was taken away from me by very bad people who had very bad intentions and I mourn her everyday because of it. They told her I abandon her and she knew it's not true. but she was blind and as she got sicker from being neglected!she started believing them and kept crying and crying for me and they would leave it on my message machine. You know Gomez this is a sad situation, you know you can't change it, but what you can change is that you remember your precious mother. Write about the good things she taught you, the happy memories, and smile. Later when you start seeing her and remembering her, then take the time to really write down what happened, and mourn again for the last time, then let it go. Remember your love and her love for you and make it a positive experience for we can't change what happened but we can remember the wonderful person and moments you had and what she taught you. It wasn't fair, but you see, your mother knows now how great your love is and was and what really happened. She loves you even more and watches over you. I promise. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

I understand and I very much talk about my parents and especially my mother. Her being pregnant with me as she lost her parents her father in July and her mother in October. I was born a couple weeks later in November. But my grandmother spent hours talking to my mother about who I was going to be and that I was a special baby for her she gave her special directions compared to raising her other children. My grandmother knew that I had special abilities and just some differences before I was even born. Maybe she had more insight being so much closer to the end that the Veil was thin? So not only did my mother use so much of what my grandmother taught her about me. But I taught my mother what my grandmother said I would. And my mother did such a good job teaching me about my grandmother it's just like I had known her while she was living. Every once in awhile I just have to let out a little bit of what happened. There is a lot of situational things in my life that have not let me mourn properly. At the same time I've learned to talk about my mother and what she's taught me. And even though my father wasn't much of a talker he was very cranky but a great provider, but after he was gone I realized he had taught me so much more with less words than I realized. I wish I could have cared for them as they wished. But I know they're okay now, and they know the truth. I haven't found my way out of the situation I'm in for a year and a third so I'm a little impatient at my age and for how I feel. I'm determined to work it out within this year though. Thank you for your words of wisdom I told you before I'm a girl so I was a mama's girl. Girl LOL little too old for that word I'm a woman this word just stopped when I went to use Morticia from the 60s but there is so many on this format already that I just used your husband. It kept a stalker away from me. I think I've had this name for about 11 or 12 years. I don't know if I've lost them or not I hope so I'm starting to get lazy about who I am. Much love to you XOX

Beautiful, and love the history. Very appreciated. At age 14, to be fashionable and fit in with my peers, I insisted mom cut my long hair. She cried as she did it. 🥺 never sure what she did with my hair. Warmest wishes for health and prosperity to you and yours. 🌸

Goodness I was the exact age when I asked daddy to cut my hair so I too could fit in. My long hair was so blah!! So dad put my hair in a pony tail, and cut my hair. Imagine that it looked like? Nothing beautician! It was awful and I hid under a pillow! I was hoping my hair cut would be like the white girls. I don't even remember but that my sisters snipped a little to not make it look like someone CHOPPED OFF MY HAIR. Still I looked awful. So its a memory I have never forgotten. Dad just threw my hair away in the garbage. Awful again. Oh well, I am grown but imagine now and then this comes back and I am appalled. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

Bushy hair and not wearing shoes? I can so hear my aunties chastising me and my cousins for that..... especially when they’d pick stickers out of our feet. Also, that blanket is beautiful. Even before you told the story - I saw the way you held it. It’s something special.

Thank you for your sweet comment. Well I no longer have bushy hair and no shoes, well the shoes now and then. Its funny my auntie said, I couldn't recognize you with brushed hair, hahahaha. Plus I was bigger now too. Another hahaha. And yes, the rug is very precious and I gave that to my son and it has made a home there in his lovely house. His wife is from Texas and she can cook up a mean Texan meal beyond the moon. She also makes excellent frybread. She worked so hard at it and always cried because she said, "it will never be like yours." Silly girl!! I told her, it becomes your frybread as you make it and my son said, "Oh mom, at first it was hard and different but now, the frybread is closest to yours." Now that is an accomplishment. Love you. Hair is something special. I had long hair in college, felt alive, then was told and did, in 1997, that I had to cut it off if I wanted a “good” job. Something very sad happened to me and through covid, short of it, I started to be myself again and have long hair once again. It is getting very long and I desire to do something with it, other than just a ponytail. Since a young person I have always felt a connection to the Native American culture, just something I can’t explain grabbed me, sense of community. As a white man, can I do this to my hair? I mean nothing but respect and dream of a world where race, sex and religion are not judged, but that’s not today, so I feel from a place of respect I must ask permission. I’ve never met you, but can instantly tell you are an angel on Earth, much love to you.
@NavajoGrandma
@NavajoGrandma Год назад
Well, since when did you have to ask? It is your right to wear your hair in whatever way you desire, didn't you know this. So since you felt you needed to ask then Navajo Grandma just gave you "permission." No need but gave it. Enjoy your hair in a bun and know you are wonderful to have regrown your hair, mine is still short. When you grow old as a woman short is almost best and pretty sure I have shorn some healing and wonderful gifts away but I actually empower myself thru prayer and humility and respect for self and others. Now go make this hair bun, make sure you check out my video how to make a hair tie. Enjoy wearing this and if someone complains, just say this: Well I have a NAVAJO GRANDMA. You can see her on youtube under Navajo Grandma. I am her adopted grandson. And you are! When you subscribe or anyone subscribes, "you become grandma's grandson, grand daughter or friend etc." Know this. So you are my adopted grandson so there! Don't be bothered. Just enjoy. It takes times to learn but you can. Hugs always from YOUR NAVAJO GRANDMA!! LOL!!

Glad you like them! I had this precious brush and two others stolen from me from the Marriott Hotel in Farmington, New Mexico. The hotel said they would give me 2 free nights for all that was taken. 2 hand woven Navajo blankets woven by my Bizhi, then 4 hair brushes, 3 weaving tools that were originally carved by my Nali, then 3 of my Bizhi's carding brushes, and more. We had gone to Chaco Canyon making a video. The main hotel office were offended I would "blame' them. The manager told me there was no video, then she said the person, a Navajo guy who came into our room unannounced, which I reported, asked why he did and he told me the woman cleaning was not trustworthy as he is whom the manager said more than likely stole my items. These were antiques and precious family heirlooms and more to the Marriott Hotel was 2 free nights. Talk about creeps. Some subscriber told me they have insurance for things like this but not the Marriott they asked me, "do you want us to pay for what was stolen," I said hell yes. They wouldn't even give me the name of the guy who quit the exact day I reported this. So sad. So this video makes me cry to see what I once had. I love this video as the hairbrush (beezho) that I used here and had was stolen from me at the Farmington, New Mexico Courtyard Marriot Hotel plus several rugs my Paternal grandmother wove, as well as my stirring stick and again 4 hairbrush picked and made by my Bizhi (Paternal gma). I cried for days and this hotel only said, "Oh well we will have you stay here for free for 2 days and do not ask for anything else!!!" I will never go there again. It was a Navajo guy who the hotel Manager knew and she would not tell me and she also said to not make a police report. Oh I best be quiet, I always get tears welling in my eyes when I see this precious video. Such great sentimental heart tugs as I watch this and see what I once had that was picked and made by my Bizhi. So other than that thank you for watching and sorry I bring this up. Lori, this is truth. If everyone was perfect what would the purpose of life be? We are put here on Mother Earth to be tested, tried, to see what choices we would make, in the end we are called back to our Creator God and there we get our final exam grade. Much has been given us to succeed, each other, hugs, teachings, traditions, forgiveness, many other virtues guide us along the way. When someone degrades another I say to myself, Christ said, "he that is without sin, cast the first stone." Then what happened, those folks shrunk away because why? They were not without sin. I love Christ, his wisdom is perfect. Thus, through our imperfections we are being schooled, we are learning, we are coming to ourselves, we change every 5 years and become amazing every 5 years. So thus how are we to treat ourselves, in the same way. Forgive yourself first, forgive others even when they belittle you because of your beauty, your strength, because you are filled with light and darkness hates light. Stand and smile, with pure humility and be the light unto the world the salt with the savor. Lori you are beautiful, and because of that alone, jealousy enrages folks if they allow it. I have never been jealous, I have only read about it and can't comprehend it. I compliment gorgeous women, men, etc. I have never thought "oh I wish I was gorgeous. It just humbles me that God made them such. I honor God's hands in their lives. So whatever the case, it is true, our imperfections make us nobel and wonderful in the eyes of God and others, if they truly see with spiritual eyes as we all should. Thank you for always be a wonderful cheerleader with your precious 100% and commenting. I see you. I know you when you are there. I feel your presence and it is precious and holy dear one. Grandma is no dumb bunny, I live by the spirit and have learned this and remain because through it God has blessed me and I desire to bless others like you sweetheart. Love and Hugs always. Navajo Grandma (I felt you needed to hear this long soap box from gma) I know it is true for whatever reason.)

GREAT video thank you...I love the design of the rug. It is so true about cherishing things that was a family members I have so many little trinkets of my grandparents and my great aunt that I just love my great-grandmother had long hair and I still have one of her big plastic bobby pins that she used to put in her hair bun to keep it up. and it is funny that you're talkin about family because this week A friend of mine got an app from my heritage site and you can take any photo and it makes it alive like the person is moving it is a real mind-blower. also it can put black and white pictures into color one. Have a wonderful and blessed week Navajo grandma

Dwayne, my Sioux friend from Minnesota texted me a picture of her great grandmother and I just about freaked. It was amazing. So my husband did that to my Nali's photograph and my father's photographs and I just cried. So very amazing. Next the technology will be our ancestors speaking to us. Now that will be mind boggling. From the spirit world. Hold onto your hats. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

Tennille it is beautiful and remember my auntie was what you consider pretty blind when she made this. She said it was cloudy to see but the colors she said I had chosen were best because she could work with those colors. I was shocked and yes after that blanket she no longer made anything else as she was literally blind the year after. When I hold her rugs, I am so deeply humbled, I run my fingers over the roughness of the weaving, and know she worked hard in trying her best to match my art work. These are considered horse blankets but some Dine' used them for blankets. Though they are rough they are gorgeous to me. Thank you for asking and commenting on the rug. Navajo Grandma

Thank you for watching this precious video. Not only because my son is in it, but that hairbrush & other ones, my rugs, carding brushes, & more were stolen from the Farmington, New Mexico Courtyard Marriott. They blamed me for bringing this on location, plus their lawyers were a mere disgust. They said all they owed me was 2 nights free stay nothing more. They knew who did it but again lawyers. So I appreciate your appreciation. A precious video for sure. Love & hugs. Navajo Grandma

I'm watching this video, having your voice run through my 3 year old memory. As I do her bun I find myself tearing up. I lost my mom and I remember her doing my hair. Now I'm doing my daughter's. Ahéhee 💜💜

Oh my, don't get me started, I know how you are feeling sweet one. Isn't it amazing how touch, smell, seeing, feeling tug at such vivid powerful heart strings. Thank you for carrying on your mother's legacy and your Dine' Culture even if it is putting your little one's hair in a tsiiye'e'l. We need to remember. There is beauty in remembering our loved ones, and even more when we write down for ourselves, our sanity, our strength, our future, our good and bad days ahead, sickness or health, that these written memories will bring light into your heart, strength when you need it, health and healing when you feel nothing else will work, on and on. Keep bonding with your little ones like your mother would and did for you. They need safety, love, comfort, ancestral knowledge, acceptance, and much more that you can give as a mother as no one can. Hugs to you always. "Ahehee" Navajo Grandma

Grandma you made me cry lol. When you were speaking about your Auntie and her weaving you that gorgeous rug it made me think of my grandma and her quilts she used to make. Then, you said she was one of the last weavers in your family and it hit me that no one in my family knows how to make quilts anymore either. It's sad that skills and memories like that get lost along the way, which in turn makes the items you do have even more precious and dear. I love your stories Grandma, thank you for sharing with us. ❤ *hugs* Your son's hair is so beautiful and healthy! I'm glad he was able to join you and we thank him as well.

Alanna sorry to make you cry, I do that too much with such heartstring memories that comes from humility and gratitude for our ancestors. So wonderful they were and still are. Yes when those talents and abilities are gone and we don't learn them, its gone. But it can also be relearned and carried forth. Never say never. I weave but not the amazing kind but I do weave. After the 20th I will be shearing and showing all of you about wool. It will be fun. Navajo Grandma
