There should be Navajo language classes in schools, why do we learn French and Spanish when we are in America? We should be learning languages indigenous and native to America to preserve them.
@inconnu4961
@inconnu4961 2 года назад
There are tens of millions of Spanish & French speakers in the world. There are likely only 1000'sof speakers of any particular First Nations tongue. If you are a First Nations citizen, by all means learn your language and preserve your culture! It will be a tragedy when these languages go extinct! But to answer your question its far more practical to learn these European languages as they are spoken by people across the globe!

Totally. In Ontario they offer a class to learn ojibwe. It's not a cheap university that offers it and not a cheap class either. In Alberta, there is a group that offers 2 to 3 day lessons in Blackfoot for free, plus there's a PDF you can download off Google. But still, something that should be in schools where they make you learn french/Spanish etc

Man it's hard. I learned French, Spanish, icelandic and sign language, but navajo takes the cake. My wife is Navajo and soon my child will be here and I want them to know their culture, but it's so hard with such limited resources. I live next to the reservation and try and talk as much as I can but still the verbs are so hard and descriptive that I get messed up easy. I hope I can fully learn for them so they can keep diné bizaad language alive.

The best way to learn is through immersion. Try setting up talking sessions with other Navajo speakers, and you'll pick up a lot. Studying grammar should not be your primary goal right now.

I just started learning Navajo as well and I agree! I learned some Spanish and Japanese, but Navajo definitely is the hardest. My partner is Navajo and his family has been wanting me to start learning the language. I also am wanting to start learning now so when we have a child in the next few years, I can try to help keep the language alive as well. I hope you've had a fulfilling journey in the year you've been learning!

Hello. I work at a hospital on the Navajo Rez. I overheard afew nurses asking one another how to say certain words and phrases. Asking their patient, "What's wrong?", "Where does it hurt?", "How bad does it hurt?" and so on. I figured it would be a good idea for some fluent in the Dine' language to post these questions for them. So they may learn how to say it correctly. I'm sure this would really help out both the patient & the nurse. I feel bad that us younger generation can't communicate with our elders that need medical attention. And need to be helped CORRECTLY. If the words aren't correct, they could get the wrong meds or poor help.

Me and my family were picking a doormat and I was confused on which mat my mother was pointing at ( she was speaking in Navajo ) and I guess these two men thought I didnt understand her and said in Navajo "talk to her more in díné and she'll understand better" I- I KNOW WHAT SHES SAYING YOU JERK I WAS JUST CONFUSED. So I have made it my mission to speak fluent🧘‍♀️

I think they had good intentions, and wanted to see your generation learn and thrive to keep the culture alive. I don't think they were being jerks, I think some people understand the weight of language and its connection to who we are more than others and feel its imperative to pass it on to new generations so they never forget who they are and where they come from, and keep their dignity around ignorant peoples.

@@s1r3n1971 LMAO Way to rationalize there buddy! It doesnt matter how right your cause or compelling your message, if you are offensive to others NO ONE cares what you have to say! First rule of thumb when trying to convey a message is to come across as a likable person. If one Can NOT manage that, the rest is pointless!

The reason why the “ł” is pronounced like that is because the Navajo where located in areas with rattlesnakes, and the “sh” sound is supposed to be the imitation of a snake hiss. Also as to why in the phrase “where are you coming from” has that hiss is for that full connection because rattlesnakes are tenacious so the full sentence is played off how rattlesnakes interact with something new coming to them. The language of Navajo is so cool and makes me want to learn it more

Yes, there is difference in the Dineh language. Like like you said we say hello as yaah teeh and like this goodway or I enjoy this. And say slightly different words we add to. Slang😆words. I'm learning Spanish language for the fun of it. My 1st language is Navajo, I'm fluent. than English is my 2nd language. Hasta luego. laters

Gotta learn the Navajo sound system. There's some Spanish loan words Diné Bizaad but they're Navajo-ized based on how Diné heard it and made it through their sounds. Diné Bizaad sounds aren't really tongue twisters as they tone and placement makes it confusing because you're now dealing with 3 mental orthographies. Nothing wrong with that, it just shows how much you're willing to learn and add to your own multilingualism.

Amazing introduction. Respect! Another thing: We Pray to The Creator of the entire universe to deliver a swift and decisive justice and victory for the Native real people of the north and south "Americas" against the invading Terrorists first led by the evil Terrorist and bringer of death and disease Christopher Columbus. And to return their entire stolen continent to them with whatever means the Creator sees fit. To let them see and recognise and reject the deadly "soft" weapons used against the Natives (gambling, alcohol & other drugs, greed, disrespect to elders and parents, religion etc).
@inconnu4961
@inconnu4961 2 года назад
Your creator is not listening! Your people are losing this battle as they assimilate into the dominant culture. And as far as the 'soft weapons', they are vices more or less common to humanity. Every group of people whether they be First Nations, European or what not struggle with these vices! I hope you succeed in overcoming the allure of these vices, but to suggest that they are weapons targeting ONLY your people is a complete flight of fancy! Peace to you and your noble people!

@@inconnu4961 Thanks for your inquiry. PHYSICS. My people (mostly science & maths graduates and people of open minded thinking and understanding) are those who know and understand the modern independent-of-religion scientific discoveries and also know how how those discoveries collectively prove by inference and unimaginable probability the existence of the creator when compared to the scientific predictions by one unread individual 1443 years ago. Once this is understood, these people know that the rules and promises of the Creator are never broken. For example we implement some of these rules that promise Wealth and we see the wealth streaming to us without effort from sources we could never have seen coming. These rules about how to get the best our of life work 100% all the time, every time if applied as prescribed. And for such people, this by inference proves that the reality of the after life is also true as described by the same individual. So we who know, implement these rules, see the Wealth and happiness flow to us in torrents but are mindful of its true value, it's purpose and of our final destination.

This language is complex and pure as well as complete in it’s original form. I wish there was a way to know the original form to remove all confusion on how it has evolved and how different people choose to speak it. Is there such a thing that exist as an original form of this beautiful language? Thank you for the lesson.

I wish us Navajo children could go to school to learn the Navajo language. My grandma is a full Navajo and only speaks Navajo. She can't speak English so I wanna learn.

A quick two part story. My wife knew this from her family history but DNA tests confirm that she is approx 40% native american. Apache - Navajo. 4 corners area. Anywayz…. … second part of the story is a few years ago, drove from front range of Colorado to Los Angeles. Was on way to LA to market a screenplay. So, past 4 corners and and get to Kayenta as the sun is setting. Continued driving and soon, I started to get an incredibly strong… lots of words come to mind. A sensation. A pull. A… yeah, could call it “energy” but that word is used way too much for stuff. No matter.. I had this what became an incredibly strong something pull, looking south. Was moonlight so could see a long ways sough. Along a mesa. The feeling was really strong and kept at me for like 30 minutes while I was still driving south west. It felt like there must be something really important there. Later I learned I was being pulled towards Three Mesas. For sure… made total sense. Had already read lots by Frank Waters and others. And stuff. But I didn’t make the connection until later. I’ve been through many roads since. And made friends. But those minutes driving out of Kayenta and being pulled like super strongly towards this land… made perfect sense once I learned. The center of the universe. One other... when I would tool around canyonlands, taking pictures (photographed at the time), I would always tune to a Navajo radio station when I could get it. To listen to the voices. The best...

The Duolingo lessons on Navajo are extremely underdeveloped. After the first couple they no longer have pronunciations for anything
