We're lagging down here. In Canada, they've had APTN for over a decade and of what I saw a few years ago on a trip up there, it was great! Particularly David Wolfman's cooking show "Cookin' with The Wolfman" We have FNX here, but it isn't as centralized.

Great doco. Much love and respect to all native people around the world that have been affected by colonization. ❤ It's not the way we wanted to live. Some of us were forced and some of us were fooled.

Any proponent of law enforcement should take the time to watch, there are some real staffing challenges in these super remote areas due to housing, the Academy appears legit however, I missed duration most are 16 to 22 weeks, salary ranges are competitive and , leadership appears to be seasoned, experienced professionals with extensive training. Nicely done!

Well I suggest to the academy stop being so hardcore re hiring kids with a past that are now just trying to live on the the right side of the law now by bettering themselves giving back to the community by wanting to be police officers. Just sayin

We are the only Native American Tribe that has its own Police Academy. It is sad that today, our Navajo Police Officers are still untrained and have no real authority. Years back the Navajo Police were commissioned as state officer for 3 states and federal. Today, they are only tribal commissioned. Thanks to the the two corrupt officers who came from Farmington PD and messed that up for our tribe. The two came aboard without proper backgrounds, testing, etc. and the former chief left with some of the tribal funds from the Covid pandemic. Another blame for the Navajo Police being messed up is politics! The law and order committee and council delegates. The Navajo Police have no training. They are laughed at by outside agencies. For instance, New Mexico State Police always say they are handling calls for Crownpoint Navajo Police every time a person is armed with a weapon like knife, firearms and barricaded suspects. Even when the schools have threats, the New Mexico State Police provide security for the staff and students because Crownpoint Navajo Police avoid that conflict and don’t care to perform their duties. I don’t know how many times New Mexico State Police say that they cannot trust Navajo Police as back up on the reservation. Because Navajo Police can’t secure a scene or even fight. San Juan County Sheriff also has to offer their helicopter to the tribe. Or send deputies to handle calls for the Navajo Police. It’s sad! The Crownpoint Navajo Police also don’t back each other up or the dispatchers don’t even check on their own officers. You hear officers responding to an emergency call and the officers that could assist just call off shift. Or they don’t make their way to check on officers who been on scene for more than 20 minutes without radio contact. Then they find out the officers are fighting a resistant suspect, then they run around to respond or start calling outside agencies. Every time you hear the emergency calls for help across the eastern agency. All the time you hear the sergeants and officers say call New Mexico State Police or Sheriff and see if they can handle those calls! And they are only tribal now. BIA don’t recognize the tribe no more. And they don’t meet the federal standards no more. Now you have the Navajo Police like Farmington PD with state policies or the weak training the state has. Navajo Police and FLETC - Indian Police Academy had the best training but today not so much. BIA has their Officer more well trained and disciplined than Navajo Police. And you your are supposed to earn that uniform until graduation! Again Farmington PD ways. Even the recruits wearing blue like Farmington PD? And why are we exposing this on camera now?

Navajo police are on the lowest end of police right next to security guards. Anybody can be a Navajo police and that is not necessarily a good thing. Their training is horrible and unprofessional. Several people have died in their custody. It takes hours for them to respond. You are better off policing yourself. Their police chief left and had good reason. BIA or the Federal government needs to take over policing if things want to change or get better. Because people don't take Navajo police serious. The sad thing is that it takes someone to get seriously injured or killed for something to finally happen. They do not monitor traffic properly. People drive recklessly and many people die on their roads due to duis/speeding. Anybody can drive without insurance and registration it is not enforced. If they are incapable of providing public safety for their people, then the actual US government needs to take over. They say sovereignty, but they don't know how to police and protect their communities. In shiprock, there is no jail or shelter for women and children🤦‍♂️New leadership and methods are highly needed!
