Alvina Begay's parent's taught her the Navajo belief that every person has the power to create their own life through their decisions and choices. She is one of the world's fastest marathon runners.
Definitly agree with you. Navajos that are doing something good with their lives need to keep a very low profile. I was taught the same way by my mother as well. Because Navajos dont see it as a good thing they get jealous. And she is very inspiring.
alvina is navajo. it's pretty much right there in the subtitle text. -- she's been my coach for over 6 months now and quite intelligent and dedicated. I highly recommend her for a coach.
I ran the Boston Marathon the year of your Olympic qualifier their. It was exciting to see you running and cheer you on! It was one of the memorable parts of my trip and very inspirational!
Awesome short vid. Awesome baby and family. Been scrolling through vids and came across this one. Hope u continued your running. It always feels good to run with nature and pray when the sun comes up. 😁
I was in boot camp in 1966 June 6 at ft Hood my bunk partner was a Navajo his last name was Begay mine Was Barney I hope you made it through Name & have found the peace & love you looked for
Wow, your name is familiar... actually I ran behind you in Tempe AZ. Immediately i was proud and ecstatic because I knew distinctly you are Native American, I'm always Native struck to see Native Americans where I go. I guess it's because I'm of the Lakota Sioux tribe but I travel a lot so it's rare but always nice to see or run into any Native American out there. Keep running.... maybe I will see you again at a Marathon event.
very true ....thanks for your teaching...i was told by my dad...start running in the dark..and soon the gods well lighten what you are running for and bless you with it..make things more visual
Inspiring video indeed. I used to run a lot! I had to slow down a lot because I ruined my ankle. I hope I can soon. Your joy of running gives me inspiration and confidence! Keep running =) You are awesome!
Inspiring video, its not every day you see someone running for achievements, getting up in the morning running the mileage, and its good that you keep a low profile in running especially coming from the navajo nation, people don't look at it good way, they tend to get jealous... But over all you kick butt :)) Good luck on your next races this year Alvina. A good way to get into the Olympics your dad and family is very proud of you........ :))
Hello Alvina, I enjoyed your video. It's nice to know that there's another Native American woman that has good moral values and embraces her culture. Thank you for sharing your video. Wish you the best. :)
to answer hunter 3457's question unfortunatley she did not make thesummer olympic team that went to London, no word as if she will compete to go to Rio for the summer olympics. I suggest as the summer olympics are coming close go to the navajo times web site attn sports to find out more about her.
No I never do that in fact it's been awhile since I've been back to the rez I can come on and off the rest because of my service I signed the paperwork that make this happen you can check with the Mesa is where my family is originally from Navajo just hadn't seen any of you in a long time have a great day
I know you can do it in fact my people moved Off The Rez for over a hundred years told me nothing of my language I've done a lot since then a lot of good stuff I really want to see this happen I want to see you in the Olympics and you're looking really great and show this to some guys out here a few of them several years ago when they seen you at times when hanging out have a great day hit me up on messenger when you can Christopher
Quit eating frybread, fried chicken, anything with word fry or fried in it. Too much pork at these get togethers too. Pigs chickens and cows and indian tacos were not part of us natives original diets. Wtf is a indian taco? Taco meat on frybread haha. So the frybread makes it indian? I dunno what makes it indian im not from india.
